Stitched Collar Repair With Leather.

I've had this Carhartt Jacket for over 20 years, it's holding up well, except the collar started to fray and when I washed it, it got worse. I decided to repair it with a piece of leather.

Step 1: Materials and Tools

A piece of leather for the patch, fine nylon waxed thread for the stitching tool, my hole spacer (it's accurately a lemon zestier) but is has nicely spaced holes for marking on the leather, a ruler, a pen, shears and a leather punch. Also a $2 coin to mark the edges of the patch.

Step 2: Preparation

Trim the ragged ends of the hole, measured the collar, figured out how large to make the patch. Rounded the edges of the patch. Laid out holes and punched them out.

Step 3: Sewing It Up.

I positioned the patch and stapled it in place so that I could get one row of stitching in without the patch moving.

After the first row was done I removed the staples, then continue to finish the stitching.

Then it is done.

Step 4: The Finished Patch.

I was quite happy the way it turned out, the jacket should be good for another 20 years.
