Introduction: YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
This lesson is a fun way to combine art and science. Using collage to learn about food and nutrition, as well as, good and poor eating habits. In addition to exploring what keeps the body healthy, small motor skills are helped to develop with this very low cost activity.
Step 1: Supplies
This is a very low cost art project. The supplies you need are a pair of scissors, old magazines, construction paper and a glue stick. It is important to use a glue stick. liquid glue such as elmers curls the magazine papers and your images will not lay flat.
Step 2: Other Collage Images
Old cook books, grocery store flyers and actual food packaging are also good to use for the collage.
Step 3: Figure
draw the figure on construction paper. I usually make a template for the kids to trace.
Step 4: Construction Papers

Step 5:
cut and glue the figure to a larger sheet of base paper.
Step 6: Search for Images
For two or more figures, fold the construction paper and place the arms and legs of the template on the fold.
Step 7:
cut and glue to larger sheet of base paper.
Step 8: Food Images
search magazines for food images to use in the collage
Step 9: Cut and Glue
when images have been collected begin to carefully cut the sources and glue them onto the collage.
Step 10: Hair Etc
add a face

add more detail to enhance and finish the collage.
