Introduction: Zombie Polymer Clay Necklace

About: I'm a self taught polymer clay artist / sculptor making figurines, dolls and accessories. I sell my artworks in pop culture conventions and in my Etsy shop. I also make crafting and sculpting video tutorials…

Zombies are so popular and this guy is from the Plants vs. Zombies game. Makes a great gift for zombie fans, gamers or wear him on Halloween.

Step 1: Materials

  • Polymer Clay - PVC based clay that hardens when baked in a conventional / convection oven.
  • Black chalk pastel
  • Polyurethane Matte Varnish
  • Ball chain necklace and jump ring
  • Tools: Exacto knife, needle tool, ball stylus, clay shaper, pliers, paint brush
  • Oven

Step 2: Head

Make an oval shape and flatten it with your finger. (I'm using Fimo Soft mint color)

Using a ball stylus, make two depressions for the eye sockets.

Use a needle tool to draw a rectangular shape for the mouth and cut it out with your knife.

To accentuate his jaw and back of his skull, make some indentations with your clay shaper.

Step 3: Eyes and Mouth

Shape two round balls of white clay and press them in the sockets. ( You can add liquid clay like Liquid Sculpey to the sockets to make sure they stick well.

Make two indents with a ball stylus for the pupils.

For the mouth, press a rectangular piece of red clay to the sides of the mouth. For the gums, make a thin snake of pink clay and add them to the top and bottom. Make 2 indents for the top and bottom of the gums and add 4 tiny pieces of white clay for the teeth.

Step 4: Details

Use a needle tool to draw out his brow and soften it out with a clay shaper.

Use a ball tool to make indents for the nostrils.

Add 2 tiny balls of black clay on the pupils.

Make a hole on top of his head with a needle tool.

Bake the pendant according to the manufacturer's instructions. I baked mine at 110 degrees celsius for 35 minutes.

Shave some black chalk on a piece of paper and using a paint brush, add to the brow, around the eyes, hair, nostrils and the jaw area.

Glaze varnish on the piece and let it dry.

Open the jump ring with the pliers and insert in the hole of the pendant and add the ball chain to make it to a necklace.
