Introduction: 5$ 3D Printed Black Panther Claws

About: So basically i am a crazy person, who loves to think the most odd way ever possible, who makes what he thinks and also let other also make those . Check out my crazy projects if you like do follow me :D

Hey, guys, I have just watched black panther last weekend and wanted to get some cool cosplay gloves just like these: http://amzn.to/2GO7P5I which cost 35 USD, so I decided to design my own.If you like my design you can download from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2806457

Step 1: The Idea

The idea is to make the claws easily snap on the finger, but the fitting should be good enough to let the user feel comfortable and the claws not getting out easily. Our finger's outer perimeter is more likely representing an ellipse.
So I measure the major axis and the minor axis respectively.
Also, take into account depth of the claw that will be on the finger end.
Then I fire Fusion 360 and create a parameter list, which is given in the screenshot.

Step 2: Designing the Finger

Once I am over with the parameters, I Choose the X plane and created a new sketch.
Then created an ellipse using the parameters defined before.
now I used the offset tool to make the outer wall.
I used a thickness of 0.5mm.

Then I used the line to tool to make two lines which will cut the ring in 45 deg from the X-axis.

Step 3: Extruding the Claws

Now here comes tricky part, making the claws.
To make the claws I use the spline tool.
The spline will provide a guide path.
Create a new sketch in Y plane and go to the center of the ellipse and make a curved path using the spline tool.
Select the ellipse and the outer wall and the using loft to the endpoint of the spline make a cone.
When you choose the guide path as the spline the cone will become like a claw.

Step 4: Choosing the Material

Now It comes to choose the print material .. U can use PLA for the print but I had PETG in stock and chose to use that .

WHAT is PETG ?

In general, such PET is known as PETG or PET-G (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified; Eastman Chemical, SK Chemicals, and Artenius Italia are somePETG manufacturers). PETG is a clear amorphous thermoplastic that can be injection molded or sheet extruded.

Unlike PLA, ABS is considered an engineering material. However, ABS is prone to warping and creates toxic fumes while printing. ... PETG has the durability of ABS without the significant warping and toxic fumes. It has a higher melting and glass transition temperature than PLA, but still not quite as high as ABS

Step 5: Print the Claws

I printed on my Ender 2 printer with PETG.

The setting was as follow

  • Print Temperature: 235 C
  • Infill: 25%
  • Support: Yes
  • Bed Temperature: 0
  • Adhesive used: PVA Glue stick

The Print time took around 2 hours 25 min with .15 resolution
I wear it on black gloves to make it look like black panther.
