Introduction: Knex Heavy Cannon V2 - Mini

About: K'nex is my thing!
Well, due to popular demand I'm posting my second cannon, my v2/mini. If you don't already know, this is a mini version of this gun. As you may have already guessed, the biggest change to this version is that it is smaller and a lot more piece efficient. Everything else is the same, the shape, works, ammo (though a tadbit shorter) and looks.

The range for this gun is about 85 feet on average. Not bad. i would like to remind you though that the ranges on both my cannons are from the normal position, the range could be greatly increased by propping the front up higher.

If you cause any damage with this weapon, I will be in no way responsible. Just so you know. and Im serious, you could make some serious carnage with this!

Step 1: Parts List

This is the parts list (duh). This is where the biggest difference from the original was hopefully going to be. I did cut down in piece quite a lot.

Now you've got those, time to get a'buildin!

Step 2: Wheels and Base

This goes on the bottom of the bow. Check out the wheels!

1: Make these bits
2: Then make these parts
3: Put the soupports.
4: Clip those two together
5: These are the wheels
6: Make whats in the pictures
7: Now make these parts. 8 in all
8: Cross-snap it into place as shown
9: A side-view of that connection. Make sure the grey is pointing in the right direction
10: Put the rest in place in the same fasion
11: Repeat steps 5-10 to get two wheels
12: Make this axle part
13: Slip the wheels on at both ends
14: Put spacers on the remaining rod as shown on both ends
15: What you should have now
16: Attach that souppot you put together eairlyer. Make sure the red rod goes through the orange connector
17: Put on the other two parts of the stand on the ends

Done that. Onward!

Step 3: Bow

This is the bow. Strong and sturdy.

I should just let you know that I am Incorporating the stringing into this step. You can only string it with the bottom half of the bow absent, so I will show you how to string it at about the halfway mark. Get to it!

2: We are going to start by making these. They are the wheels at each end of both limbs
3: Start by making this. Its the axle, if you could call it that
4: A close up of one end so you can see that there are two spacers
5: Make this housing for it. Remember the whites
6: Other side of the housing.
7: Put the two parts together like so
8: A close up of the yellow inbetween the wheels. Notice which way the flat part is facing
9: Now you've done that, make its mirror-image. The same, but everything pointing the opposite way.
10: Now you've got this to make
11: Start with this piece. It is the upper bow

15: Now make these side panels. You will put them on later
16: This is the lower bow. ITs the same as the upper, but its got all the rods that connect it to the lower. Make sure to put them all in.

28: Now do it on both sides
29: You are now going to string the bow. Right now. Don't ask any questions. These are the elastics you will use. They are #64 kind. This bag cost 99 cents.
Before You start this stringing part, I might suggest that you stretch the elastics before stringing them. Anyway...
30: Take two elastics and place them on the floor like so
31: Pull the one through like shown...
32: ...and pull. The knot should look exactly like this. Pull tight
33: Take another elastic and place it like so
34: Pull the the other one through
35: And pull the other one through and tighten
36: Repeat until you have a string 6 elastics long
37: Do that again until you have 8 strings
38: Unclip the yellow connector as shown. Do so on both sides
39: Pull two strings around the bottom wheel and hook on the green rod

41: Elastics hooked around the green rod. I know I said green rod, but actually try to get them on the connector.
42: Just for the stinging, you will want to make a few makeshift supports like I have done here, otherwise the entire thing will bend like a banana (see next picture later on)
43: Once you put the next two string on the second-from-the-bottom wheel, you can snap the yellow back into place and pull the two strings you just put on a little further up the connector
44: Keep it up until you have strung all the elastics
45: What that much-discussed yellow connector should now look like
46: All the elastics on their respective wheels
47: BANANA TIME! You will have to remove the makeshift supports to put on the upper bow, so make sure it does not end up like this!
48: Attach the top bow. Make sure to connect all the up&down rods
49: All those bits attached
50: Hook the middle two elastic strings on the yellow connector, and the top and bottom strings on the connectors as best you can
51: to finish, put those side panels in place like so
52: Completed bow. Yay!

Step 4: Upper Barrel

This step is long and boring. Have fun!

1: What you are about to build
2: Make this end piece
3: That same piece upside-down
4: The remaining part. Make it from the following photos
5: Upside down. Note the spacers and the purple 3d connector on every other blue 3d connector

Step 5: Lower Barrel

Now for the lower barrel. Also very long and boring. Yay!

1: What you are going to build
2: Make this bit first. Should be easy
3: Upside down. Notice the lack of any blue rods or supports on the bottom
4: Just close up of the end
5: Another close up just so you can see the structure
6: Make these supports. Remember the green rods
7: Now build this long support beam

10: And at the end. Remember the greens there, too
11: put in that support beam with the yellows pointing in
12: Now with that put in, it should look like this
13: Add the supports. Make sure they are facing the right way

15: At a angle. Make sure each rod clips into the yellow rod on the bottom

Step 6: Trigger

This is the trigger. Just so you know, this is by far the hardest and time consuming part of this cannon.

Its a lot cleaner than the original trigger, and I made a couple of big upgrades on the red rod hooks (the ones that the elastics hook onto) and the knob.

Lets get this over with!

1: What you are about to build
2: Start by making the parts in the picture
3: Attach the two larger pieces together as shown
4: Add the other two bits on the sides to get this piece
5: A close up of that bit
6: Repeat steps 1-5 to get another one
7: Make all the bits in the picture
8: Put them on the red as shown
9: A straight on view of that part. It should be the same on the other side
10: Slip the two bar things on the whites with spacers inbetween
11: put that last part onto the green connectors, and save this piece for later
12: Make these three bits, and put them aside for later also
13: This is the knob!
14: Build this little part
15: Then make this little guy

18: Make this piece of the knob. Make sure to tape up the top, and be sure that the tape does not extend down the rod at all.

59: Take the piece that you made earlier with the wheels and put it on the back like so

63: Put the yellow rod on the knob through the hole on the red connector on the back. Be sure that the trigger pin is in the barrel.

Anyway, now you've got that out of the way, lets move on.

Step 7: Barrel Support

These are just extra supports that are placed on top of the upper barrel. They also make it look cooler, and they can even be used as iron sights (sort of).

Anyway...

1: The supports. Easy!
2: Just in case you have terrible vision, heres a close-up of the front...

Wohoo! Lets put this sucker together!

Step 8: Assembly. Yay!

This is the fun part! Now you get to see your cannon take shape. Have fun!

1: All the pieces you should have
2: Attach the wheels to the bottom of the bow as shown
3: Close up of that connection

5: Now put on the lower barrel. Easy
6: Urgh...so blurry. Anyway, thats how it should look
7: From the front You will have to disconnect the red rods to put the rest of the attachment around the red rod. See note on picture
8: Now put on the upper barrel. Also easy
9: Put part that extends past the barrel on top like shown (sorry for the blur)
10: A close up of that. Sharp at last...
11: Now put on the trigger. It should be easy, just connect the parts that look like they should connect.
12: Lastly, put on the barrel supports on the upper barrel

15: Assembled cannon
16: Slip a elastic band around the orange connector on the trigger, and then around the middle red connector as shown. It should not be a lot of pull, just enough to make is snap back into place.

You got yourself a assembled Cannon. Time to fire it!

Step 9: Ammo

The ammo. The same as the origonal ammo, just shorter. Get to it!

1: Ammo. Who would have guessed!
2: Make these parts. remember the cross-snapped whites on the main body
3: Attach the two smaller bits on the the main body as shown
4: A side view so you can see how that works
5: Put the other two rail on the top and bottom. Done!

Step 10: Loading and Firing

I'm going to show you how to load and fire. To be honest, this is difficult, but once you get used to it, you can load in as little as 15 seconds.

Now, I will tell you again later, but be very, very sure that none of the elastics are in front of any of the white rods on the back of the ammo. I will have some close-ups later, but if you fail to do that, the gun will explode. With that happy though in your mind, lets load it!

1: What you are about to load - your gun
2: Start by grabbing the two lowermost strings, the two on the bottom wheel
3: Pull it back and hook it onto the back (see nest photo)
4: Hook the first elastics around the red rod shown
5: Take the next two strings (on the second from the bottom wheel) and hook them on the back in a similar fashion (once again, see next photo).
6: Where the second elastic goes
7: Take the second from the top two elastic strings and hook them on like so
8: And take the final two elastics and put them on the uppermost red rod
9: Take ye ammo and slip it down the barrel
10: Slide it all the way down to the back
11: Pull the knob on the back backwards lifting the rod out of the way. The push the ammo into the line of holes created by the connectors on the barrel, and let go of the knob. They should spring back into place. Make sure its all the way down through the back of the ammo.
12: Take the elastics (In the order you hooked them up) and slip them onto the ammo like shown
13: Be VERY sure that none of the elastics are in front of the white rods, lest the gun explode. Try to get as many strings as possible on the yellow connectors on the back of the ammo.

You are loaded! So is your gun. Be Very careful when shooting, especially near other people.

Step 11: Final Thoughts

There we are! Thanks for having a look at my cannon. Like I said before, be very careful when using this weapon. It can be dangerous!
