Not sure if this will work for you but I'll tell you what I did in my house.I have a straight run of stairs down to my basement and they were not well lit. I also have some shelves next to the stairs for canned goods. Many years ago, I surface mounted an electrical ceiling box, the octagonal ones, on the wall above the basement door with porcelain light fixture, the ones that have been around for a hundred years or so, that had a pull string switch. I just ran a 14/2 wire from the basement up to the ceiling box. The wire is also visible but not in the way. This worked but it was sometimes hard to find the string in the dark and I sometimes forgot to turn it off. I bought a motion sensing outdoor security light from Menard's that was very inexpensive. You know, the kind with two sockets, …

I think you'll have to do without the circuit board and connect power to the light panel directly. I've never done it but I watched a video on how one guy did it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDiU1mUnNbg
- gandymarsh commented on jedidieah's forum topic Heat transfer through cementView Topic »
That is an interesting question. I'm guessing that the upper part is wood frame construction that could be insulated if you have access to the studs. There are companies that can insulate sealed walls with blown-in insulation. They cut a small hole and then patch it when they're done. Even if you don't want to insulate, it would heat up fairly quickly if your heater is big enough. I would think you would probably want to heat the part that you spend the most time in. A cold floor isn't really a problem if you're wearing shoes. Heat from the lower part would take a long time to warm the ceiling. Concrete has a lot of thermal mass.

- gandymarsh commented on Epicpoet's forum topic 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Radio not workingView Topic »
Yeah, your tuner is probably shot. 2003 is pretty old. It would probably cost more to repair, if you can find anyone that does that anymore, than installing an aftermarket. You may be able to get an OEM one from an auto salvage yard but again it's old so maybe not. They did sell a lot of those Rams. The new radios usually have a USB port and/or AUX input so you can plug in an MP3 player. I doubt you'll find a new one that plays cassettes though. CD players will soon be fading away also.

Depending on the metal it's made from, you may never get it open. You could try a penetrating oil like Marvel Mystery Oil. There are some others too.
- gandymarsh commented on cjbfleming's forum topic Can anyone tell me what this is called?View Topic »
I watched that video too. Took me awhile to figure out what they were actually doing. It's probably a specially designed tool for the trade. You might be able to have something like it made by a welding shop.

This happens when the air in the room is dry. For a small area, you could buy a small vaporizer that sits on a table or shelf. They are fairly inexpensive. They also sell larger ones called Humidifiers that will increase the humidity in a larger area.

I had that happen once. I published a very simple PVC drying rack that was so simple that a child could make it. I noticed it didn't show up in my account area. I contacted the Admins and they explained that it was due to some new software that is meant to detect incomplete instructables. They divided it into steps and allowed it to be visible. This is it https://www.instructables.com/Very-Simple-Bath...
- gandymarsh commented on jessyratfink's forum topic Tips or products you recommend for clearing or preventing ice in winter?View Topic »
I don't know of any way to melt ice on wooden steps or porch. I think the only thing you could do is divert the water away from the porch. If you added a small roof over the door with a pitch that matches the other two roof areas it would direct the water to the sides. It won't be cheap, unless you can do it yourself or know someone with those skills, probably two or three thousand dollars but it would increase the value of your home if you ever decide to sell it. It's not a very difficult job for a carpenter but they do charge a lot per hour.

Very nice!I bought a brand new factory made waterbed shortly after my girlfriend dumped me in 1985. We had one and it stayed with her. I couldn't sleep well on a standard mattress so I pulled the trigger on a four post queen size with white oak head/foot boards. Been using it ever since. I've gone through about three mattresses and a couple of heaters but at about $100/mattress I don't mind.

It sounds like your batteries must be old. Normally, lithium Ion batteries are 4.2 volts fully charged and shouldn't be discharged below 3 volts. 3 new fully charged batteries in series would put out ~12.6 volts which would probably be enough to run your deck. You would need to have two or more sets of three in series connected in parallel to increase capacity. Batteries in series have the same capacity and amps as a single battery, the voltage goes up. Batteries in parallel have the same voltage as a single battery, the amps and capacity go up.Unless you plan to charge the cells individually, which you can do if you use battery holders, there is also the question of charging. Over charging and over discharging can be hard on batteries and dangerous. There are a lot of things you need to …

I've never heard of the ones that you linked to that have brand names. I have a Nitecore i4 that works well but is slow when charging 4 cells. On ECF, there are many people that recommend Xstar chargers. If you want a DIY solution, you could buy some TP4056 charging boards on ebay. They use a 5 volt mini or micro USB cable. They require some soldering and 18650 battery holders. https://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-TP4056-Micro-USB-Charger-Module-5V-1A-18650-Lithium-Battery-Charging-Board-/272570928685?hash=item3f767e4e2d
View Topic »Just FYI those charging boards need at least 1 amp to power them. I would suggest using a wall wart that is capable of supplying 1 or 2 amps instead of your computer.

If your string of LEDs runs on 12v, that's most of your system right there. The voltage should be printed on the strip. That LED strip you have doesn't appear to be waterproof. If you plan to use it, make sure it's protected from water. You can buy waterproof LED strips on ebay, Amazon etc.I'm assuming your golf cart is gas powered as most electric ones run on higher voltages. All you need to do is use a barrel connector, like the one on your power supply. These are usually 5.5 mm (outer diameter) x 2.1 mm (diameter of the pin inside). You can buy those on ebay or cut off the one on your power supply. The center pin is usually positive. Connect wires (these wires can be very thin, like thin speaker wires) to the battery terminals. How you do that depends on the type of connectors used on t…

- gandymarsh commented on thomase39's forum topic an orderable switch which allows to pass an alternating currentView Topic »
It depends on the amount of current (amps) you are talking about. USA made switches have the voltage and amp ratings molded onto the switch. They are usually rated for AC current. If you are looking for a switch to control a light fixture or small appliance that doesn't draw a lot of power, there are many inexpensive switches availableSomething like a heater with a high amp draw or a big motor will require a more heavy duty switch. A couple companies that sell many types of switches are mouser.com and digikey.com.
