Introduction: Ribbon Cable for 8X8X8 Led Cube
Building LED cables for the LED Cube.
This is instructions on how to build the jumper cables for the Arduino board for my LED cube. The following is a list of Items needed:
12’ of 8 conductor ribbon cable Tools needed:
9 8 pin female header connectors soldering iron
Solder Hobby knife
Liquid flux Cutters
Liquid tape Soldering aids
most of the parts here can be purchased from E-bay or Jameco Electronics.

Step 1:
- Cut 9 16” lengths of 8 conductor ribbon cable. Then use a hobby knife to separate the individual conductors about ¾” down. And strip about an 1/8” of each conductor.
Step 2:
- Twist the conductors together and coat each conductor with the liquid flux, then apply solder and tin them all.
Step 3:
- Starting from the center two pins solder the conductors to each of the pins on the female header. It will make it easier if you place them in the soldering aids. Work form the inside to out side. Repeat nine times. Mark each cable 1 thru 8 and G.
Step 4:
- Once completed apply liquid tape to the solder connections. Be careful not to apply to much. Otherwise you will have to remake the end. For the liquid tape will have leaked down inside of your connector.
