Introduction: Dressed Onions

About: I like to make things, all of the things, all of the time.

This is a really simply Instructable for making Dressed Onions.

I used to make salad onions (onions in oil and vinegar) heaps when I was younger and don't know why I stopped.  My partner makes some tasty mushrooms using the same method (I don't know what he calls them other than mushrooms) so I stole his way of doing that and used it in these onions.  Easier than doing the vinegar and oil to taste.

Why do this to your onions?  It takes the bite out of the onion and makes then simply delicious and perfect for a simple green salad or in anything where you would use dressing and onions but don't like how overpowering raw onion is.

Step 1: Ingredients

You will need,

Red Onion
Garlic Cloves
Italian Dressing, full fat dressing NOT no fat dressing

You also need a decent (good condition) jar that will fit the onion.

First, cut the onion into slices and put all of the slices into the jar.

Next, cut up the garlic and place all of the slices in the jar.  Use as much as you like.  I used 4 cloves and I could have used more. The garlic also tastes delicious!

Put on the lid and shake the garlic through the onions

Step 2: Pour Your Dressing

Remove the lid and pour in the Italian Dressing until all of the onions are submerged.

Put on the lid and put the onions into the fridge.

Step 3: Eat Your Onions (at Least One Day Later)

Leave the onions for at least a day or two before you try them.

These are great over a green salad, and the dressing is included! I also like these on some brocolli that has been in boiling water (not on the stove, just boil your kettle and pour it over and let the brocolli sit for a few minutes) .  Drain the brocolli and add some onions.

They keep for about a month, if you don't eat them all first.
