Introduction: Faux Lava Stone: Aromatherapy Jewelry
Hi friends!
Today I'm going to show you how to make a Faux Lava Stone, in less than a 1 hour! But don't stop here, because you can create a pretty cool Aromatherapy Bracelet and Earrings.
Step 1: What You’ll Need:
For beads:
- Black Polymer Clay
- Sea salt - medium and big ground
- Toothpicks
- Cutter
- Essential oil
For jewelry:
- Clear elastic cord
- Metallic bead
- 1 set Earring findings
- 2 eye pins
- 2 small beads
- 2 silver leaves
- Pliers
Step 2: Cut Polymer Clay Into Small Chunks
My polymer clay comes in 2 packages= 57g total. I took 1 package of clay and cut it in 1cm squares.
Step 3: Roll Clay in Your Hand and Form a Ball 1cm/0.4" Diameter
Step 4: Salt
Take a small bowl with salt and roll the bead into it. Press the salt into the bead all around.
Step 5: Insert a Toothpick to Make Hole Through Bead
Step 6: For More Texture, Take a Few Big Salt Crystals and Press Into the Bead
Tip: Use a sieve as support for toothpicks.
Step 7: Boil for a 5 Minutes
The salt crystals will melt and you will achieve a natural looking "lava stone".
Step 8: Bake in the Oven for 20 Minutes at 130°C/ 266°f
Read the instruction for your polymer clay because the temperature and time can differ from brand to brand.
It's important: the polymer clay is not an air dry clay, the only way to fully cure is to bake it.
Now you can compare the Real Lava Stone from right and Fake ones from left! Do you see the difference?)
Step 9: Aromatherapy Beads
Once the beads are cool, you can make an aromatherapy beads. Put 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oil on your fingers and polish all beads. Add more oil if it needed.
Our porous beads a perfect for this to work because they soak the oil in and slowly diffuse it throughout the day!
Lavender: Used for stress relief.
Chamomile:Used for improving mood and relaxation.
Lime: For Energy Support
Fleur de Tiaré: For calming effect and it smell absolutely amazing for me)
Step 10: Bracelet
For bracelet: take clear elastic cord, around 40cm/15", fold it in half and add the beads. Measure the beads on the cording around your wrist. I used 16 beads and one decorative metallic bead. Pull the beads tight and tie 2-3 knots. Trim the ends and your bracelet is ready!
Step 11: Earrings
To make the earrings it's simple when you have all supplies.
Now we need to assemble those material. Insert one small bead & one lava bead onto the eye pin. Trim the pin at 5-6mm from ending and carefully make a loop. Attach a leaf at bottom, and a earring finding at top.
Repeat the process with the other beads, head pin and earring finding.
Tip: If you have needle-nose pliers it's better, because you can make a perfect loop at pin ending

Do you condition the clay (put it thru pasta machine) before you boil with salt?

Just a heads up, essential oils can degrade certain plastics (which us why they are always in glass bottles). Polymer clay is plastic-based, typically polyvinyl chloride.

Thanks for the information, it makes me hope that just polish with little oil wouldn't take any damage.
