About: Dreamer, Mother of 2, Handmade jewellery designer working with terracotta, resin and polymer clay

Hi! Welcome to this instructable.

If you are here, you are probably any/all of the following

  • a creative soul, looking for a quirky idea
  • searching for a DIY Halloween accessory using paper
  • trying to do something fun and interesting during the corona virus (COVID-19) lock-down
  • or an ardent fan of Instructables - Its such an awesome community for people who love to make things, isn't it?

And you have landed in the right place. I had made a Ballerina paper costume for my lovely daughter for a dress up competition. I challenged myself to make shoes using paper as well. Here's how I did it. I had so much fun making it and I am so thrilled to share it with you.

Supplies

  1. Paper
  2. A simple footwear (preferably pumps or flats) for size reference and for understanding the structure
  3. Pencil
  4. Scissors
  5. Glue

Step 1: Understand the Structure of the Shoe

Take a moment to observe and understand the structure of a shoe

It is primarily made of

  1. a sole
  2. a second piece of fabric that goes around covering your feet

Observe and note down the measurements for length(l), width(w), front(f) and height(h)

Step 2: Making the Sole

Draw an outline of the wearer's foot on a piece of paper

Cut it out

This will be the sole of the shoe

Step 3: Making the Rest of the Shoe That Covers the Feet

Using the measurements of length(l), width(w), front(f) and height(h), draw the reference lines as shown in the image.

Draw and cut a U-shaped piece as shown.

Remember to leave some extra space to overlap and secure at the back.

Cut 2 slits in the bottom of the U as shown in the image.

Overlap and glue the slits to make a curved dome shape for the front of the shoe.

Step 4: Putting the Shoe Together

Glue the sole and the rest of the shoe together, starting from the front.

Once you reach the heel area, over lap the excess and glue them to secure in place.

Trim any uneven edges if necessary.

Your paper shoe is ready!

Using thicker paper and embellishing as you like you can make even sturdier and stylish shoes as shown. I made these as a part of a paper costume for my daughter. Do check it out here
