Introduction: Love a Tree? Make a Tassel Necklace
Want to hug your tree and have it hug you back? Then, use it to make some "faux fringe" jewelry using a palm leaf.
Step 1: Prune Your Palm
Prune your palm. Cut out a section and roll it and let it dry. It can be further trimmed later.
Step 2: Gather Some Supplies
Strip some electrical wire for the main necklace. I already had this scrap brass. I choose two beads from my old necklaces to use with the palm tassel.
Step 3: Get Those Pliers and Wirecutters
Grab your pliers and wire cutters. Round pliers for making curves and flat pliers for crimping and bending the wire together with no loose edges.
Step 4: Wire the Recycled Beads
I started by bending the wire around the round nose pliers to form a loop at the top and the bottom. Use wire cutters to clip off the overlapping wire.
Step 5: Form a Clasp
Now measure the wire comfortably around your neck, mark and cut. Sand the ends. Bend wire ends into loops that will form an interlocking clasp.
Step 6: Save a Wire and Reuse
You can strip some electrical wire if you have it available. My old wire was pretty banged up so I "whacked" it a bit with a hammer for a dimpled texture. (Truly, I just love to bang on things!)
Step 7: Wrap Your Palm Tassel
Use some thinner wire to wrap the palm. "Hug your palm tightly."! Include a loop at the top to attach to the beads.
Step 8: Embellish With Gold Enamel Paint (Optional)
One option you have is to use a highlighting brush stroke of gold enamel paint to the palm frond. Remember just a touch to maintain the natural beauty of the palm.
Step 9: Connect and Show Your "Green" Colors
Connect the elements and your "Palm Frond Tassel" is lovingly ready to wear!

I love that? Is there anything you have to do to keep it from disintegrating? Or does it last just like that?

I did spray with a matte finish but other pieces that I made for earrings really held up well with no spray. If for some reason a fossil of this piece is found in the future it will really mess up geologic history!

Thanks so much. I just love those palm leaves that open up so wide from their narrow stem.
