This is a super cool way to make a boring pen fun! Very easy to do with common supplies! And yes! they will write for a while! The ink will eventually stop flowing but for the pens I made they worked for a while before stopping. Defiantly worth making to use and then to have to play around with.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

For this you will need a clear pen that can unscrew to remove the ink, oil (i used canola oil, which appears cleat=r in this project), food coloring, and a plastic pipette.

Step 2: Remove the Ink and Seal the Pen

Unscrew the pen and take out the ink.

Then using a hot glue gun, seal any areas on the pen by gluing a thin layer around any openable/potentially not sealed parts. For me this area is the top part of the pen.

Step 3: Dye the Water

Using the food due, dye a small amount of water your desired color

Step 4: Seal the Ink

Now seal the top part of the ink using hot glue. Put a small amount of the glue coverage the opening on the ink. This makes sure no water or oil will get into the the ink cartridge. This step is necessary to make the pen still work after being assembled.

Step 5: Fill the Pen

Now, working in layers with the pipette, fill the pen about 1/2-2/3 full using the oil and water.

Step 6: Place the Ink Back In

Now put the ink in the pen. Its ok if there is space without liquid. Then place a tiny amount of hot glue to keep the ink in place

Step 7: Finish the Pen!

Now screw on the metal part to finish the pen. Carefully seal around the top part of the metal where it meets the plastic and around the bottom where the ink piece meets the metal. Now your pen is ready to use!!
