Introduction: Hex Nut Bracelet

About: I'm a teacher who loves to craft in my spare time. I hope you are inspired to create some of the items I've featured.

I'm married to an engineer (check him out https://www.instructables.com/member/vreinkymov/) , so all sorts of washers and hex nuts are always laying about the house from his various projects.

I've always thought hex nuts were pretty and decided to make a simple braided bracelet with them. I thought I was so clever until I searched the internet and found that everyone and their mother had a tutorial on it.

Oh well, here it goes!

Step 1: Materials

For this project you'll need:

Tape
Cord (color and thickness are up to you, just make sure it's thin enough to fit through the nut)
Hex nuts (as many or as few as you like, I used 12)

This project will take about 15 minutes and will cost about $5 to make.

You will need to know how to braid in order to follow this tutorial.

Step 2: Prep the Cord

Loop the top of the cord and knot it. This is part of the clasp for your bracelet so make sure that it's not too big and not too small for the knot you'll tie at the other end.

Tape the cord to the edge of the table to keep the cord anchored to the table.

Braid the cord as far as you like. I only wanted the beads to be on the top of the bracelet, so I braided 1/4 of the circumference of my wrist. You may want to do more or less depending on your preferences.

Step 3: Add the Nuts and Knot the End

Add a nut to the left most thread, move left thread to middle.

Add a nut to the right most thread, move right thread to middle.

They should end up making a sort of "V" shape, but don't worry about how it looks just yet.

Aaaaaand repeat until you have as many hex nuts as you'd like.

Once you get to the end, braid the same amount as you did at the beginning of the bracelet. Tie the thread in a knot a couple of times until you get a robust knot that will fit securely into the loop you tied at the beginning.

Step 4: ENJOY!

Put your bracelet on, make a couple more, and enjoy your flashy new fashion accessories!
