How to Combine Photography Into Jewelry Making

If you are a photographer, you have tons of images that you don't know what to do with. Part of it is perfectly clear but there is just something about it you don't like. Let me help you with that little problem.

Step 1: What You Will Need...

You don't need a lot for this project.

• Printed images
• A bezel to set the image in
• Scissors to cut the photo out
• Modge Podge Multi Dimensional or resin

Step 2: Choose Your Image...

Choosing your image can be a difficult task. You can see many different things if you focus on one section of just a 4X6 printed image. You will be surprised if you look and a portion of an image instead of the whole so just use your imagination and your keen eye, heck you're a photographer.

Step 3: Cutting Your Image...

Some shapes are easier to cut than others. Hearts are harder than circles, circles are more difficult than rectangles so I would suggest starting with a circle or a rectangle. Cut your image slightly larger than your your bezel. When you start cutting down the image to fit, cut small portions at a time. Like with anything else, you can cut more off, you can't add more back.

Step 4: Place Image, Add Coating and Wait...

Once you have your image the correct size, it is best if it fits snugly. Add your modge podge or resin. The image may float up to the surface, simple press it down toward the base with a toothpick. Make sure you don't have any of those sneaky little bubble. The will come to the surface and ruin the piece. Once again, your handy dandy toothpick can fix that problem.

You should allow it to set for about three day at room temperature to make sure it sets properly. If you wear it too early and it is not solid, you can damage the piece. Don't ask me how I know.

Step 5: Get Creative...

Look for images that are different. It can be the petals of a rose that look like a pair of lips, glossy and red. Play with the images in Photoshop. Who says they sky always has to be blue. Bump up the contrast. Add some glitter to give it the bam factor. Play with it. Have fun with it. Just enjoy it.

Step 6: Wear It, Share It, Sell It

So you can see some of the pieces I have done. I am wearing one right now. I have given them to friends and family. I have them for sale at shows and on my jewelry site. Take time to allow the world to see through your eyes. You might be surprised who likes how you see things.
