Just a quick forum topic to say that no patches will be automatically assigned for the next week or so. The site update changed some of Instructable's source code, my Perl scripts rely on that to find certain bits of information. As a result, I won't be handing out patches until I find time to fix it. That's all :) UPDATE: Canucksgirl's helped me find a fix/workaround. Yay! It should run again soon and we'll see if it worked. UPDATE 2: Yup, it worked. Patches were sent out again.

Hi im doing a project for my brother for christmas. Its a Drag race track thing, I have it all planned. Buuuuuuut for the cars I am using a capacitor, and a motor rated for around 6volts. WHAT should the capacitor's capacitance be? A high capacitance or a low one? I have a charging spot on the track to charge the capacitor, and then the energy stored in the capacitor powers the motor for long enough time to make it to the end.(Which is only 3 feet). Note:I found a small car that does just that but the motor doesnt work and the capacitor doesnt show the capacitance on it and I used my multimeter but it said DisC. I will post a picture of it later if it even helps. :(

I was thinking about doing instructables on knowledge on survival in the wilderness. But I'm just wondering if it's acceptable here. It seems that most of the instructions I've seen are crafts or builds. Just a friendly question; if not; then I will find a way to make it craft-ish

I am thinking about planting a hedge around our air conditioner condenser to increase its efficiency. This would serve as shade for the condenser and as a means to inject water to keep the plant cooling the air as it evaporates the water. When rainwater is available, an aquarium pump could "irrigate" the hedge. When not available, a switch could control a valve for a high-pressure drip irrigation system. Both could be controlled by the compressor circuit. Keep the hedge trimmed about 6 feet tall and with just enough space around the condenser for a workman to easily maintain the unit (at least 3 feet from the condenser). The hedge would have to be drought resistant and one that does not shed leaves or debris. Any thoughts about this?

Can anyone prove or disprove that this is actually area 51? at some time pres. clinton gave that branch permission to deny it's existence. you used to be able to see it from a hill or something, but they fenced it off and may have cameras there here's the link to the image: http://tinypic.com/k9zvaw.jpg, if that doesn't show up just go to google images and search for "arial view of area 51"

Ok so i was asked to find a book for someone but i have no clue to where to start looking since all the information i have is what the cover looks like and a little bit of the beginning.Anyway the book cover picture of a girl with brown braids looking down and in the background is like a forest and the beginning of the book is suppose to be about a girl riding a wagon with her father to town or something. And the genre of the book is fantasy or fiction. If anyone knows this book or can find it i will give them 50 cookies

Just to let all of you know: I'm going to try and take a break from instructables for a while, I have a ton of stuff to do. Me and my friends have to build 2 grandfather clocks and they have to be done by the 23rd, so I'm going to try and take away the temptation of wasting (constructive ;) ) time on instructables when there are other things that are higher prioity, yet less fun. I also have to do more on my online german, I'm only about 30% done, and I have about 2 and a half months left, so I need to catch up. I'll be back at the beginning of march (or hopefully maybe the 24th of february. I'll c ya guys soon, I just need to get my priorities straight. Of course I will check up on the results for the LED challenge ;) EDIT: oh, and I might be on late at night where I can't make recordings or use power tools, or between tv shows on my ipod ;)

You know how people are remaking movies that had come out a long time ago? Maybe some one has thought about this one..."One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest." Originally played by Jack Nicholson...perhaps he can do a cameo, but I was thinking of John Malchovich as the main character. What do you think?

Http://thing-a-day.com/ Of course, you don't have to do it officially... but I signed up today and I would like to see the instructables community try their hand at it! I've already got a list of projects to work on, and I asked off for quite a bit of time in February. I'm pretty excited! :D

Ok. I've scrapped the Mamba 12-G because there wasn't anything new there. I am bringing back the AR-4 Commando, but there is a problem I loaded my mag with 4 shots, and it has very low range on 2 of the shots The first two are fine, but not as great. The next two fly 3 feet and flop. The range on the other two is lower than my Mamba and earlier versions of the commando. I am using Banana inventor's mag for the gun....

Do you think it would be wiser to buy a used car with good service history and lots of options or a brand new "stripper" car with a good warranty? Price could be about the same for the two. Thank you for any input, I'm trying to puzzle out what I want.

I have been asked to supply cool air to five kennels, adobe built, in a row. I am proposing to Build a funnel box around the inside unit to feed air through pipping (drainage/plumbing) to the individual units. The engineer/salesman has told me it is immpossible to do this and a much larger/expensive system will be required. Would any one care to comment on this ? I was planning to fit a small fan at the far end of the tubing to aid in the flow of air and take back pressure off the unit. As with most of the instructables I have seen here, I know this is not the "correct" way of doing the job, more of a hack but at the moment I have more time than money

This is a review of oodalumps's "not a rectangle" with bakenbitz's stock. One hasn't been done yet so I will do one now. Body: Stock: 9/10 Bakenbitz's stock is strong, but the individual walls are still somewhat flimsy. Nothing blue rods can't remedy though. Handle: 8/10 Comfortable and sturdy but the trigger guard kinda takes away from it in my opinion. Barrel: 8/10 Innovative and sturdy, but extremely hard to build. My hands didn't hurt too bad though. looks: 8/10. Looks simple, but still looks great IMO Performance: Range: 10/10 160 feet flat with 6 #64's. Power: 10/10 There's a few boxes that no knex gun has shot through before, this gun shot all the way through. There was even a box with another box behind it, it shot all the way through BOTH of them, fins and everything Accuracy: 10/10 I made a custom ironsight for it (very accurate) and my friend shot clean through the center of a cheez-it from 20 feet. I'm serious, straight through the tiny black hole in the middle. ROF: 5/10. It's a single-shot, so you have to manually reload it. Also the fact that you have to pull back a bunch of bands at once for the best reload times slows you down somewhat. Innovation: 9/10 The concept of a balljoint at the front taking the impact of the pin instead of the back of the gun is a great concept, but I hate that that's all there is to it. Final word: I was very impressed with the performance of the gun. It's the most powerful gun I have ever built. I recommend it to anyone looking for a single shot. Final score: 9/10 Mods: Custom ironsight (mine) Trigger guard mod

Is there a limit on how many Instructables and slideshows you can post on instructables? Also, in what catagory does this question fit? I used tech, but that's just because I couldn't think of any other catagory.

I haven't been too active on Instructables for the last year or so as I have been busy trying to put my life back together. A little over a year ago my partner Joan announced out of the blue that "we had run our course", an accumulation of health issues for both of us, family problems & various setbacks had taken its toll on her and she felt it was time for her to concentrate on raising her granddaughter alone. Needless to say this was a hammer blow losing two people I had built my life around tore me apart, it also meant I had to find somewhere to live, I tried to find somewhere I could have even a small workshop but being on a very limited budget it was impossible so instead I rented a small studio flat and put all my tools into storage. My son & I have now rented a garage to use both as storage and a workshop, we were very lucky to get one quite literally yards from my home, it lacks power and lighting so it is still a little limited but hopefully once it is set up I'll be able to start doing a few larger projects once again. In the meantime I have returned to doing the kind of table top projects I made thirty odd years ago when I last lived in a small flat mostly match craft tins & trinket boxes along with a couple of guitar tool & plectrum boxes, not exactly the beds & tables I was building a couple of years ago but it has kept me busy. I have also resurrected a couple of acoustic guitars, restored a nice Fender Squeir Strat and rebuilt my ex's old electric bike, owing to the vertigo problem I have had for the last couple of years I can't ride a motorcycle at present so this has at least given me some independent transport & its far cheaper than using taxis & buses to get around, I'm now on the lookout for materials to salvage and ideas for new projects so hopefully I'll be publishing a few 'ibles quite soon. I hope you don't mind my sharing my recent history with you but now I'm finally feeling more able to move on with my life & get on with making again I felt the need to reintroduce myself in some way. Here are a few pictures of what I've been making on a coffee table & lap tray along with my Fender & the bike which was a rather unattractive mess a few weeks ago & now has quite a smart vintage look to it.

It should be replaced in a bot.
I recently joined the homemade firearms community and realized that the group is focused on highly illegal NFA weapon construction and i want no part of it. I thought this would be a group of mature law abiding amateur gunsmiths building legal single shot, bolt guns or semi-auto rifles and handguns but based on the few posts I read, this is not the case.

Hi all! Hope I got the right place for this. I figured that there's someone in this community who can help me. My A/V receiver is about to give up the ghost. A number of channels no longer work, and the sound is pretty fuzzy. I know I need to replace it. I've always been terrible with A/V stuff. I'm not sure what direction to go as far as replacing it goes. Here's my issue: The room I have the receiver in is small, so I don't need a lot of oomph. I also don't have a way to run wires to rear speakers without people tripping over them. I've gone without rear sound for a long time now. I've never seen a set of wireless speakers that are reliable, so that seems like a poor option. I can't really do a "home theater in a box" setup, because they don't have enough inputs to add all of my stuff. The things that currently run through the receiver are my computer (which runs our TV through a tuner card), a wii, an xbox 360, and a dvd player. None of them are HDMI. I use RCA cables for everything. The other thing that looked interesting is a sound bar, as they can apparently replicate surround sound without the rear speakers, but they seem to have the same problem that the "theater in a box" packages have. I don't know anything about receivers. For example, I don't know if it makes sense to use a 5.1 receiver if I'm only running R, L, and Center speakers from it. Anyway... I'm not looking for brands or models necessarily, but rather, setup suggestions. What kinds of things should I be looking into? I can't be the only person with this kind of problem. Any advice that some of you A/V gurus can offer would be greatly appreciated! The cheaper the better, here... as I don't use it all that much. :) Thanks!

Do I need to create a base to print it on or will the product I use to make the bas sticky be enough? Any help to this beginer would be appreciated. K
