When is the next Baking Contest going to be? I have an instructable waiting to be created & it involves baking. If I post 1 before the contest, I won't be able to submit it into the contest. & I really want to have it in a contest.

Baking contest not enterable?

Hi everyone, the baking contest seems to be offline. I entered my instructable (more than once) but I didn't receive the email telling me that my entry was received. Since there is only one entry in the contest so far I am thinking I might not be the only one. Could you look into this please?Cheers

Can you bake pieces of paper inside of baked goods? Answered

I was asked to a girl's choice dance today, and while thinking about ways to reply, I had the idea of baking a note into a cake, forcing my date to dissect the cake before she could get my response.  I'm curious as to whether or not the message would hold up to baking, if I should go with cookies instead, or drop the idea altogether.  Thanks for the help!

Meat Ship Sets Sail

If you're planning on eating several pounds of sausage and bacon you might as well get some friends over and make a boat out of it, right? Yeah, sure.We have an Instructable for making placemats out of bacon and bacon soap, but this is pretty epic in comparison. This is all great if you're into bacon. Which I'm not. It's one of my least favorite things to eat and I find this to be pretty disgusting, but I hear that I'm pretty much on my own for that opinion. Most everyone else finds it delicious. MeatShip

Baking Polymer Clay on Plastic Straws?

Is it safe to bake polymer clay on plastic straws? I'd like to try making a ball-jointed doll, and one tutorial uses plastic straws as a form of armature for which the polymer is wrapped around to create a hollow core to sculpt on. The straws seemed in-tact, but is it safe? I know certain plastics let off toxic fumes when exposed to certain temperatures, which is why I ask. I would think it would be fine, since it wouldn't be much "foreign plastic" (AKA not the clay) but I'd rather ask and be sure, than find out the hard way. Thanks for any help!

muffin/bake shop style muffin tops?

Does anyone have a recipe or the secret for baking the big muffins you buy with the big rounded cracked tops? I've searched the web but it seems to be a closely guarded secret. Maybe someone out there has worked in a muffin shop or bakery and could share their expertise. If you're worried about blowing the whistle I can assure you that I do not want to make a profit and am not planning to open my own bakery. I just have a weakness for those muffins and i'm a single mother who can't afford to treat myself to such an extravagance every day. I would greatly appreciate it as I can no longer cope with the feelings of guilt knowing I should be saving that money for my sweet little daughter :( . I would be forever grateful :)

Science of Baking class project doesn't work

When I go to the last step of the Science of Baking class to post my class project picture, I get one of two things: 1) The "Class project" / "I made it!" box is missing entirely, and the class questions are visible as normal or 2) The "Class project" box is visible, but contains only the text "Share a photo of your finished project with the class!" and a "Show more" button, which does nothing when I click it, and meanwhile the class questions are missing entirely.  I've tried refreshing the page, re-starting the computer (it re-started itself because that's how it rolls, and then I re-started it intentionally to see if it would help), and trying on two other computers, all with the same results.  The operating systems and browsers I've tried are Windows XP with Chrome, Windows XP with Firefox, and Windows 8 with Chrome. The class projects in the Knitting class are working fine, and the one for Science of Baking was working fine last time I saw it, which was Wednesday. EDIT: Added Screenshots from the first computer (XP w/ Chrome). Apparently sometimes the non-working "Class Project" box disappears and the questions appear when the page finishes loading (hence the loading indicator in the screenshot), but not always. EDIT2: Added link to class project page

Shaping Cupcakes

Hello all! I need some guidance.   I am trying to bake cupcakes, but I want to bake them in the shape of coffee beans. I was considering using egg shaped pans (that usually sell around Easter), but unfortunately, it is not Easter, so they are not selling... Any advice on how to make baked goods in the shape I need? The image came from here.

Is there a way to make your own version of an EZ-Bake oven?

I know these things are cheap, but I was wondering if it's possible to make a homemade version of the popular EZ-Bake Ovens. Obviously you'd have to use an incandescent bulb and not the modern and energy-efficient CFLs/LEDs.

What should the internal temp of properly baked bread be?

Is there an optimal internal temperature that bread should have to be neither underbaked nor overbaked? I saw a bread recipe recently which called for the use of a precision thermometer to take the bread's temp, but I haven't seen any other recipe suggesting this.

How can I make a no bake cake or brownie mix for the new "Cool Baker" cake maker that my daughter got for Christmas?

The new toy that my daughter got is the new Cool baker cake and brownie mixer and it comes with a brownie and cake mix with icing and sprinkles.  I was looking up the price of the replacement mixes and they are so very very expensive, I know that there has to be some way to make these refrigerator baking mixes at home with simple ingredients.  I am not very good at baking, so I know someone out there has figured out how to make these mixes at home and not pay 5.99 for tiny replacement baking kit.

how much lower do you set the temperature when baking in a convection oven?

I just got a new oven with convection baking.  I am not used to it and I have been setting the temperature 25 degrees F lower than my old oven.  Even at that temperature it seems to bake really fast.  For example "quick breads (i.e. banana bread) which would take 50 minutes in my old oven, now only takes about 15 minutes, it's crazy!!  And it doesn't seem to be consistent. If anyone has any tips for me I would appreciate it.  I got a Whirlpool Accubake top of the line model!! Thanks
