We have two cats at my house and i don't know what happened but the smaller cat has been trying relentlessly to "kill" the other. The attacked cat has been acting odd a little before the incident, and wherever the smaller one can smell the other he starts growling. They have been living together for half a year without problem. We have no idea whats wrong but any help is appreciated.

Sorry, no hilarious picture - but a thought exercise!Imagine a steel box (to shield the contents from the universe) that contains a cat. Inside this box is a device that contains a gas which may, or may not, cause instant death to the cat. One hour after the device is released in the steel box (with cat) - what is the state (assume only two states - alive or dead) of the cat?Mind you, you have no method to measure the results of the possibly poisonous device - after all, measure the result and you change it! I imagine there are a few of you that have read about this very scenario in an academic setting :)

Hello geniuses! I found this post a while back over on boingboing about this guy who hooked up a very small digital camera to his cat's collar. The link is here: cat cameraI thought this was a cool idea and immediately headed over to amazon to buy the camera that this guy recommended and is shown in the tutorial. BUT now that I'm looking at the tutorial again, I realize it's way over my head as far as the electronics. So I'm putting this request out there for some electronics genius to make an instructable geared towards beginners. Parts list, etc...edit: In no way am I trying to take away from J. Perthold's original idea and design here. I just don't understand his directions, and thought an instructable based around this project would be a good idea and possibly be an improvement. Thanks to anyone who takes up this challenge.Cyen

There are many of you out there that have clones, I came across several of them today.I am making a big fuss over this because it annoys me, that people can't think of original names; so they have to copy other people, because they are popular.Often you will find, or may well have seen, these 'fakes' have posted Instructables, but the original person has posted a gun, more than five times better than that of said cheat. The few I have found so far include:Trainman2001 - DarthTrainmanDsman1 - Dsman195276 (or visa versa)Killerk2, NOT-KILLERK - KILLERKThere are thousands for ironman69, although there was a film called The iron man - This could be a valid reason. If you spot any other clones, inform me please.I will eat them.

I have two kittens that were using the litter tray, but for some reason they have now decided that the cold tiles under the toilet are a better place to relieve themselves. I am not enjoying cleaning up the mess. Does anyone know how I can stop them from using the floor and continue to encourage them in using their trays........

We have a large 2nd story balcony at our new house that our cats like to hang out on. The railing is about 7" wide and 2" thick, so the cats are able to get on top of it and walk around, which makes us very nervous. I'm trying to construct something that will make it safer for them to walk around up there. The thought isn't to make it escape proof, just to prevent them from accidentally falling off if they fall asleep or there's a strong gust of wind or something. My thought is to install plexiglass along the outer edge of the railing, about 1' in height. Should I screw the plexiglass directly into the wood of the railing, or should I use some kind of plate to attach it? The house is a rental, so I would like to minimize any permanent damage/changes. A few screw holes should not be a big deal. Open to any and all suggestions! Thanks!

He has been fixed but as soon as he enters our bedroom he goes pee on my husbands side only. I love him too much to find him a different home and I cannot afford vet visits due to no job. If it is a dominance thing my husband thinks that if he pees on the cat then it might make him stop. Could this work?

My cat loves steel wool. We stopped buying it because we couldn't keep it away from the cats. I found a box in the basement and was using one to clean metal, she got a hold of it so I put it in the cabinet. See video below. I got a child lock on the cabinet now but my 2 year old takes them off. I know I got to clean the kitchen, got folks coming over.

Something I always wanted to do was learn to spin yarn. So, I looked up online how they appeared, and made a spinner from an old hard drive, a paintbrush handle, a bread board, and another doo-hickewy, and set off.. First, I must say, I now know what it feels like to have a hairball)... From the photo, you can see that I have much more practice, if only I could bear eating Petromalt) My cats fur is short, and I had saved a container, which I had in the freezer for some time... PatentA method for inducing cats to exercise consists of directing a beam of invisible light produced by a hand-held laser apparatus onto the floor or wall or other opaque surface in the vicinity of the cat, then moving the laser so as to cause the bright pattern of light to move in an irregular way fascinating to cats, and to any other animal with a chase instinct.Discuss!

It just doesn't make sense to me; in my experience the cat brings in a mouse , plays with it until it's dead and loses interest; the owner seems irrelevant to the equation. I like cats but they do not strike me as being particularly altruistic, Any ideas?

All us cat owners know the truth - cats can be really crazy. Please post your comments and pictures of your cats - crazy or normal, well, as normal as they can be. ~Below is a picture of my 6 year old Maine Coon mix cat, Princess, while my dad is trimming her claws. She HATES that.~ :)

Well when I was scrolling through the forums I saw the thread "cat cam" i remembering seeing it once but i didn't comment on it. But anyways that would be awesome. But would there be any way to put it on the cat without it weighing them down? W-burg (I called you that because i don't know how to spell your name) I will remove this if you want me to. Also would this be possible?

Could you modify the reader in a chip reading cat flap to log the details of the chips t hat pass through it rather than only let recognized chips open the flap? Chip reading cat flaps exist data logging is possible this I know, how to tie the two together is beyond me. Give me detailed instructions I could do it, but I'm more at home with working out how to wind the detector coil than what to do with it. The reason is this My sister has a problem, she is in danger of becoming a cat lady, or at least over run with strays or other peoples cats. Her current plan other than catching the visitors that are clearly street cats and delivering them to the local shelter, is setting a camera trap aimed at her cat flap and posting the visitor photos on the local area FB page with is this your lost cat under it. couple of the poor conditioned strays she has managed to get to the shelter have been chipped it is reasonable to assume that some of the others must be to, and they would be easier to catch possibly if their owners were trying to do it. Even a simpler system that just connected chipped cat with photo, and there by identified which cats aren't chipped so presumably are true strays not just nominally owned would b of help those could then be targeted for capture and re homing first.

Hey everyone. I'm working on an instructable which will end up on a dog or cat collar. Problem is, I don't have either. I'm looking for someone to volunteer their cat or dog's name for the tag I'm making. I'll send it to you and hope that in return you'll provide a picture of your pet wearing it for the instructable. If you're up to it, upload a picture (below in the comments) of your pet with this post in the background . I'll use the first pet posted. Thanks Brent.

Sad to say, a homeowner in the neighborhood takes no care of her cats and, of course, we had a bumper crop of strays for a while until nature and cars took care of most of them. Two or three full-grown cats from the original litters are now quite healthy and roam our neighborhood freely. As I have two indoor/outdoor cats, the "Wilds" have decided to take our yard as their own and you all know how cats mark their territory. Every corner of our house, planters, and bbq has been sprayed as the battle for territory continues. They're quite bold; I ran into one in our garage! I'd like an effective, safe, non-painful (and entertaining, if possible) way to discourage them from coming into our yard and/or what I can spray over their spray to nullify their scent. (Baking soda and water mix, etc.) I'm not home during the day to "catch" them in the act, I need something long-acting. Thanks!

Hello y'all, my cat is weird and likes to drink from the water tap(directly). so i thought that i could make him somekind of foutain so he can drink any time he wants from "flowing" water without me having to be home to open the water tap. My question for the time being is, is there any problem if i use an old fish tank water pump for it(i clean it already but...) cause all of the plastic and stuff? :P

Let me tell you how I bathe my cat. This is no fluke. I have even taken a cat to a college class and given him a bath as a demonstration. If anything would set a cat off, that would. I have even bathed cats that aren't mine. Take a big breath and relax. Your state of mind will influence his. Start with a clean counter next to the kitchen sink. Put towels on it. Don't have them so close to the sink that the cat could grab it. I generally have the cat facing away from the towels and toward the water faucet. Don't have him facing you. He'll try to grab you and climb up your chest. Get your shampoo opened and handy. Consider which hand will be easier for you to hold the cat and which to wash. Set up your towels and sinks accordingly. Now, plug the side of the sink you'll be using to bathe the cat. In the other side, start the water. Get it to the temperature you want. Turn the pressure down to a slow flow - on that side. Put your cat into the empty, plugged up side of the sink, facing the wall. I have bathed a cat with and without a towel in the sink. Your choice. Let him watch the water for a few seconds until both of you relax. With your washing hand, cup your hand, fill it with water and "pet" your cat with it. Start on his back, not his head. Do this several times. Slowly move the faucet over to his side of the sink but not ON him. Continue "petting" him with water. If he's relatively calm, increase the water pressure so the sink is slowly filling. Remember, you're washing with one hand and restraining him gently with the other. Put some shampoo on him and water-pet and wash him. Have a little PLASTIC cup handy so you can scoop some of the water from his side of the sink and pour it over him (it has soap in it - might as well use it to the max). Continue washing until you are satisfied that he is clean. GENTLY remove the plug and let the water drain WHILE you are filling that cup with clean water and gently pouring it over him. Scratch and pet him frequently. Talk to him. Rinse him thoroughly. When you are all done, let him drip a little. You might want to gently squeeze his legs and tail to 'ring' some of the excess water off of him. Then put him on the towels and wrap him up gently but quickly. Use old towels. If he has his claws he might snag them a little. Drying is the hardest part because he wants to run away. Dry him as best you can and then release him in a warm room. Don't let him outside until he is dry. I hope this works for you as it has for me.

As you may have guessed I bought one. And now would like to know if anyone out here has instructions on how to make a reset device so I can run it without the chemical cartridges? If this is even possible I was told by an individual on ebay to come here to look for the answer that indeed it had been done.. Hope someone can help me..Thank you for your time.

Over the years I have come up with a variety of ideas - some Impractical, some worked and many that never went beyond the thought or drawing stage. A long time ago I thought this was a good idea, with no budget or inclination to action it practically I put it up here for comment/critique In the UK and many other countries the centre and edge of the road is marked with reflective dots. In the UK we call these cats eyes as the inventor was supposedly inspired by the way a cats eyes shine in the dark. However good though they are they only reflect as far as your light beam reaches. On dipped beam this may not be that for ahead and with the sort of traffic we get in the UK you hardly every get to use the main beam. My suggestion is to cut a slot down the middle of the road and lay in it a fibre optic cable linking every cats eye in groups of say 50 or 100. The ides is as the diagram shows the Fibre optic carries your dipped head light far further then it would normally shine without the risk of dazzling other road users. I think that this would significantly improve road safety at little cost if done when road refurbishment was carried out anyway as at this time the cats eyes are often removed and replaced. The cats eyes could be simpler, lower profile and possibly cheaper to makeas they would only need to be a plastic holder for the fibre.

Alright so check this out, we didn't post it under the instructibles section since we dont own the video we found it on youtube, but seriously this guy has figured out a way to stop cats from pissing on his stuff. It's amazing and worth the time. Check out his youtube channel, I hope that some day he comes to Instructables and gives us some entertaining videos. He was so good that he is now sponsored on our site at HM-Innovations.com and thats something that we normally don't do. <br>

I've never actually seen one of the commercially available ones. could somebody tell me how they work and maybe even send me a picture of two of the working parts? I'm sure I don't want to spend what they cost, plus from the repair ibles, I gather they don't work great anyway. I'm imagining they have some type of motorized sifter. What I wonder is how the screen or fingers or whatever get back through the litter to the bottom to reset for the next time. Or doesn't it even work that way?

Anyone know how to acclimate two cats to each other? One is male (aggressive); the other is an older female (timid). Pulling hair out (mine). this has been goiing on for almost 2 years. Juggling cats not easy for two seniors; however, we love the little boy too. I have put up a barrier in one room that the male doesn't seem to know how to jump, and we let them see each other. Fem cat hisses, spits and runs unless I am there to put my hand on her; someone has to be holding him at the same time. We have cat windows, crates, and a kitty walk, and we utilize all of them. Aaarrghhh!
