Arduino Specifics?

Could someone please explain exactly what an Arduino is and some details about it. e.g. cost, common uses, where to get one, etc From what I can understand (and I'm not sure if this is all correct) an Arduino is some sort of programmable multipurpose micro-controller, and it controls  different electronic components (servos, motors, etc) following some pre-set program. Is this correct? (Side Note: This is my first ever post to the Instructables forums...so yay!)

Fictitious Planet Details. Answered

For a personal project of mine, I am creating a fictitious solar system with planets that can sustain life.  To make the project more realistic, I have a set of rules. Mainly, the planet and its inhabitants have to able to exist. I really want a unique planet, and I have it all figured out, except for one thing. The core. So, my question is this:           Could a planet have a gaseous core, and have it very dense and hot, much like a little star, as well as a solid outside? If so, how could it have formed?

Bike/bar details?

Does anyone have plans or drawings for a bike/bar (pic below)? My friend and I helped load one of these onto a trailer the other day and I have been wanting one ever since. It has a bar in the middle and 10-16 seats (depending on the model) lining the sides where people sit and pedal and drink. The one we saw had a steering wheel in the middle for the bartender. I have not researched the legality of such a vehicle in my area. I have not been able to find anything online thus far. My friends and I are proficient at machining and welding, I would just need some general dimensions and plans to get started. Can anyone help me out?

What are the details of an Instructables internship?

When interning with Instructables, what are some of the details not addressed here? Specifically -   What is the timespan of interning with Instructables? Could it be done over a summer, or is more time expected?  How early do hopefuls usually apply in relation to when they begin interning?  It's not abnormal for a college student to intern, right?  I'd like to keep it as an option for this summer, so if I knew it was a possibility, I'd start building a portfolio right away. Any help or tips would be appreciated (especially from interns of days past)! -p/Mc

Detailed Lego Gun Instructions

Hello everyone, I have recently created a lego bolt action, magazine fed, streaty121 type gun that i will be more than willing to share with all of you who also want to build a lego gun. The reason the instructions are not already up, is the long recording process of showing how to build the gun, so I first wanted to make sure that people were going to view the instructable before I went through all the process. The gun is fairly simple, easy to use, and doesnt require many "special" parts. If anyone is interested in instructions for the gun, please either private message me, or comment on the topic saying that you would like instructions. Thank you :)

(More) Fictitious Planet Details.

You may have seen my last question (I'm not counting on it), but if you haven't, I should tell you that I am creating a planet that can support life. I am creating an insect-like creature that flies and swims via silent propulsion. Could an animal develop a method of that propulsion? I am thinking of a couple of methods in particular. It could be MHD- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetohydrodynamic_drive It could be like the Dyson fan-http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/home/dyson-bladeless-fan.htm  I have added my sketch and a scale of the animals, as well as additional information about their behavior. I may have some terms wrong (Like hive-mind), so if I do, please .tell me so I can correct that.

an extremely complex situation with a girl, read the details.

okay. this is gonna be long. theres this extremely pretty girl i know. shes like helen of troy. and ive been in love with her like ever since ive seen her. shes in my circle of friends, though we're not that close. we're still somewhat close. however, we dont talk much in class. on facebook, i always start the conversations, and she replies with one word answers (she does that to everyone). shes the only remotely hot girl in like the entire school (what a gay place). but quality makes up for quantity by a huge margin. i dont look that good, though i present myself well.  so basically, i want to get closer to her. like real close. like extremely close. close enough to ask her out and expecting an unconditional yes. i want to be like, her best friend. thats hard. HELP.

The massivly long details for Chromehounds: Tribute Edition

Unless you've seen my original post, go to https://www.instructables.com/community/Chromehounds-shall-rise-again-at-least-I-hope-/ These are my basic ( and many ideas about the game) IDEA 1 : Rebuild::: ---------------------------------------------     I will probably start with this then move to idea 2, or I could base the project on the original and release the beta, then I'll add an expansion to include the original tutorial missions in the final. --------------------------------------------- IDEA 2: Sequeal::: ---------------------------------------------    This would be based 20 years after the Neroimus Wars, about 2040 (something like that, still working on it). Rafzakael has stopped operations leaving mercenaries scattered throughout the region. The peace that lasted after the wars was short lived, due to imperialistic moves by all three nations. The second Neroimus War starts after Morskovian forces attack a Sal Kar Village and a Tarakian patrol receives an incorrect order and destroys a Morskovian patrol. New advances in technology allows hounds to be stronger, take more damage, but these changes are countered by even more powerful weapons. Features: - Unidentified Weapons (M99, MSK-X0, Ghalib) can end up on the same battlefield and are a tad more common. (still once per war) - Experimental weapons will actually work - In ranked matches it's possible to lose parts (up for debate) - That stupid news feature it shows at the beginning will be accessible only through a menu. - Some current day weapons (Railguns, guided missiles, etc. But these will be limited by extreme weight, power, and cool-down time). - Some requested parts (TBD (to be determined)) - "Modded" parts (trade offs on certain parts; higher power for more heat, or more damage for less range and such) - Preserves tactical feel and maybe some HUD modifications - PC only for the time being. It's a major pain to get stuff on the Xbox. - A website where people can share their hound set ups and download them to the game. - New stat system for hounds and parts. - Multiplayer (can't give many details yet, probably LAN at first, but I'll see what I can do with UDK) - Variable weather on some maps - Also some new multiplayer maps. - Maps will still be basic to help out lower powered computers - Low spec mode will be able to be used. - A Java based utility app will be included(includes squad rankings, scores, parts that you have, also includes a builder so you can build hounds while the battle is finishing). - Online sync for parts so cheaters can't get free parts. - Possibly some kind of tournament that's run (maybe ever 2-3 months, to be voted) - "Death Cam" lets you watch your allies while your dead, rather than running around with a useless assault rifle. - Other ideas/ concepts can be requested and voted on, and any of these ideas can be voted on also. --------------------------------------------- That's about all I have for now, it will be about march when I release the final (sooner if I can get community help). --------------------------------------------- Help wanted:: --------------------------------------------- - Screenshots - 3-d models - Voices - Sounds - Maps (made in UDK please) - Ideas/ concepts - Storyline - Practically anything else attributed to the game. --------------------------------------------- Websites:: --------------------------------------------- - http://chromehounds.addicted-gamer.com/ (great for part/ game info) - http://chromehoundste.blogspot.com/ The main site for now. - http://www.indiedb.com/members/nerdman234 Secondary site for updates - http://www.westwindpmc.net/forums/viewforum.php?f=5 Yet another site I post on. ------------------------------------------- Whew.... /rant  -Nerdman234 Chromehounds is not my original idea, Sega and From Software created it. I am merely recreating it.

How do I manufacture this paper/pulp detail?

I have a small detail (abt 50x35x20mm) that I want to take from 3D to reality. It would be easy to just send it to the local 3D print hub, but the issue is that I want it in some kind of paper pulp material, or some other material that can withstand heat and also be lightweight. I know that there exists 3D printers that can print in paper, but I haven't been able to locate a print shop with such a machine. For prototyping, I have cut kraft paper sections and glued together, but I'd like to find a faster way. There is also a production method for pulp moulding, but the shape of my detail is too complicated for this method. Any ideas of production methods or materials that I could use instead? The detail can be split in 2 if neccessary, but I'd prefer not. Thanks in advance!

Any cheap DIY christmas gift ideas? (details)?

Hi, I am currently 15 years old and live in Warsaw, Poland. You see, in my family we never sticked to the "Everyone gives presents to everyone" scheme. My parents would get us presents, as well as give them to each other. I want to change it this year, since i feel like a total jerk this way (receiving gifts and not giving any) Overall: I need to get a present for my father, mother and brother, whose details will follow. I don't want the overall cost of the gifts to surpass 100PLN (around $35?), nor for them to be the cheap "glue some felt to some cardboard and write some nice sentences" DIY christmas gifts. I would like them to be original, maybe just a creative, slightly changed everyday object. They should not be consumable (cookies, bath salts etc.), they should be useful but nice (no coasters or stuff like that) They can not require any help, since they have to be a surprise to my family. I would like them to be preparable in my bedroom, without use of any complicated tools (including sewing machines and glue pistols). Also, no photo albums or such. Father: My dad is a business-ish person interested in a variety of subjects, like chess, computers, programming, engineering, books, movies and all that stuff. He works a lot, uses an LG Viewty Snap, drives a Ford Mondeo, occasionally wears glasses. I would like his gift to be very practical and elegant, something he could take in his pocket and maybe use throughout the day (A personalised business card holder, maybe?) Mother: My mom is the head of a small internet newspaper centered about building, ways of saving energy, construction and such. She spends most of her day at home. She likes knitting, sewing, and would surely love a simple gift that took some effort to make (some creative, practical thing to hang on the fridge? A hand-sewn pouch, stuffed animal or something?) or that makes the flat nicer (maybe a blanket?) Brother: My brother is 18 years old, he studies sound directing at Warsaws' Music University. He's a lazy and messy person who plays the piano and performs at a small band on keyboard. A very artistic guy, his bedroom is full of synthesisers, cables, wires. He probably will not appreciate any gift, so be sure to give me some more suggestions - i have no idea what he might like. His gift should be minimalistic and creative - it does not need to be very useful. Oh well, i kinda wrote too much up here. If it was too long for you to read, i need a christmas gift idea for: My dad (businessman) My mom (pretty much a housewife) My 18yo brother (who studies Sound Directing) The added price of the three gifts should not go over $35, they can't be consumable, they need to be simple enough to be done inside my bedroom so it's a surprise. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions, i will give any information needed for your ideas :)

What is a good starter kayak? More details provided inside.

I have been doing a lot of research for the past couple of months because I have decided that I really want to get started in kayaking. I want a kayak that has good tracking, but also has good handling. Personally, I am thinking about a ten to twelve foot one, but I don't know how that would do never truly using a kayak. I plan to mostly use it on rivers and lakes, and I would like to be able to make longer trips such as four to six day trips with it. Also, speed is something that I would like, and I believe that normally comes along with a narrower width. I am comfortable on the water, so initial stability is not a concern of mine. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Please correct me on anything that I am talking about if it is wrong.

Pro Membership details more visible; ratings calculation change

Several new things have just gone up, here's what: For Pro members, there's a new tab on your You page called (unsurprisingly) "Pro Membership". On it you'll see the details of your current membership, a list of any gift memberships you've received, and where applicable, there's a link to stop auto-renewing your payment. We're also now sending out emails when the renewal is imminent. These are overdue changes and we hope they make Pro membership better for everyone. Ratings are higher. Based on comparisons throughout the entire Internet (well, OK, only a small part of it, but we tried to take a diverse sample) we realized that Instructables' star values were lower by comparison than most other places, for content that's comparable or better. So we are bumping them up a star. Yeah it's ratings inflation, so sue us. Your Instructables are as good as anything else on the web, and often far better, and we want to make sure the world in general sees that. The actual update is going to happen in stages over the next few days as there are a lot of ratings to change and we want to avoid the possibility of a site slowdown from so much database work all at once. Anything you rate from now on, though, will show the new values immediately. Publishing an Instructable now explicitly requires images. Lack of images is one of the main reasons for an otherwise good Instructable getting caught in the publish process, so we've just made that bit automatic. If there aren't enough images, you can't publish, and you get a message about why. We've added a new forum category, English Language Help.  We have a number of members who speak other languages than English natively, and they are posting awesome content. Of course we want to encourage this! Our hope is that those who want a bit of a hand with English, in another language, can more easily find those who are willing and able to give it. There are a few other changes that mostly just affect administrators - it's a bit easier to manage Guides now; some site feedback is handled a little differently. Paging on lists is better under the hood, but you won't see any difference unless you notice perhaps a small speed improvement. Lots of stuff this time around! Have at it. Don't hesitate to file a bug if you find one.

I should not get hoocked on the cummunity side here again but well, I am bored today...If you have a vintage car, some old steam engine models or even really old clocks then you know my pain.Copper, brass and sometimes aluminium was used and if not cared for in time they nice shine goes first.Dirt and dust come next. And with more time passed we start to consider leaving it as the polishing would take forever.Take one of my "hobbies": old mantle clocks...Literally everything inside is brass. Now polishing a bass backing plate with some holes is quite easy if you have an ultrasonic cleaner to clean the debris out of the tiny holes when done.Even tried to polish a sprocket or fine spring mechanism? If spoked then this is a really painful job.But the same is true if you have old copper and brass ware, like these old stenciled pictures on copper sheets. No matter what you try these jobs end up to take more time than what you imagined and in many cases fine details are left oxidised or filled with the polishing compount. Now imagine you could get rid of these tarnishes and discolorations without cramps in your hand and bying all sorts of polishing products?Sure there are the well known brands that polish a lot of metal with ease by simply wiping over them. But they use harmful and often toxic chemicals and are still no good for really fine details like grooves or emossed stuff.Wearing gloves and protection is often a must and at least I can't stand the stink of them.We all know how to clean our dishes, even how to get the dried on lasagne from last night off the dinner plates. So why not do the same with our brass, copper or aluminium parts?Just use a spongue, rub and wipe a bit, rinse off and let dry.Ok, those who tried before reding the rest might be a bit angry now as it does not work that easy.Well, actually it does, just don't use dishwashing liquid :)Let me give you two of the worst cleaning problems I encountered first:You did some very fine brazing to create something nice from brass or bronze. The flux you can wash off, but polishing the discoloration from the heat and resulting oxidisation will take longe than the brazing job.The other ecounter was the restauration of a petromax style blow torch of alomst 60 years of age - but thankfully it was never used for more than decoration. All brass and a lot parts impossible to polish due to size and being quite delicate. Now we all have ways to spend a lot of time and being creative to use normal ways of polishing. And, yes I did so myself for many years and kick can myself now too.Since we can't do any advertising here and I clearly don't want to promote any brands or harm other brands by rendering their costly products useless I need a way out that helps everyone. So, again, I am not trying to promote anything here! However I noticed someone in my favourite restaurants kitchen polishing some dark copper pot to a mirrow shine in less than 5 minutes!I was shocked and asked the manager to explain what I just saw.He was confused to say the least..."We clean our pots every day, sometimes more depending on what we cooked in them."Sure but what do you use to do what I need several hours for in minutes and with better results?"Just water and soapy powder to shine the metal sir. All natural product."Omg god or Kali! What makes it shine so quickly?"Shining powder sir!" - mind you the poor guy was now totally confused and worried, while I started to loose my insanity. He noticed the look on my face and went into the kitchen.Gave me a fance looking bag that apart from a lot of Indian writing I could not make any sense of stated "Shining powder" on the pack. When the manager saw the look on face this time he laughed and asked "How do you clean your copper pots sir?"I was speechless and just said with much more time and elbow grease...He packed about thimble worth of powder for me to try and said it would be enough for a medium sizde pot, just use a wet spongue and put a little bit of powder on it.And guess what the stuff worked as good as in the restaurant :(I can't even count how many hours I wasted polishing copper or brass parts with fine details.Or engine parts from aluminium with brass parts inside....With this stuff you just wipe and tough cases rub a bit harder and all is done in literally seconds. In tight areas or those with fine details you use a fine brush like those for painting in water colors. And with that and a spongue you clean even the finest details with ease.In an ultrasonic cleaner it even works on areas you can't reach, just wipe what you can reach and see somehow and it shines. Now if you want this magic stuff and check if the guy here is just pulling your leg then be prepared to pay a lot of money.200 grams of this powder will set you back between 5 and 15 bucks depending on where you shop. That is enough clean about 300 midsized copper pots or a few hundret meters of copper piping....Just ask for shining powder in your Indian grocery store ;)We all waste money or stuff we don't need, so if you have coper, brass or aluminium to polish then try washing it the Indian way - just for fun of testing something else. And if after that test you think the few bucks and information was well worth it than please post your experience with the powder in the comments below.I hope all those members here working with these metals will read this too, so if not help me to spread the word please ;)I am struggling to upload some pics I have taken from the blow torch but will try again alter once I reduced their size.If in doubt I will upload them to a hoster and link them.Disclaimer:I don't advertise, I don't promote! However I am so pleased with this dirt cheap product that I use it now as my prefered and natural option. For this reason I think it is worth sharing. It is not a magic cure! If you have pitted areas, solder marks or brazin coming out of joints it will not help.Same for scratches, they still require abrasive polishing to be removed. But normal dirt from being displayed for years, oxidisation and even slight discoloration from corrosion will vanish. And if the surface has a good polish underneath all this than it will come back with ease ;)
