Is there any way to produce text which has been struck through on instructables?

It just occurred to me that the format of the new editor causes there to be a disconnect between the images and the text. Often I'm having to scroll up and down repeatedly to see the image the text is referring to. The format of the editor is predominantly vertical while screens are predominantly horizontal/widescreen (or can be turned). What if the text in an ible was next to the images instead of below? See the image for precisely what I mean.

The 2.0 version of Instructables has slightly different formatting than 1.0. We've based it on the wiki used in Edgewall's trac. We like it, and hope you will too. The most useful thing for people is probably links.Example:[https://www.instructables.com/ Instructables]Display:InstructablesThe full formatting documentation is here. Not everything is implemented yet, but we're getting there.

When I am editing an Instructables draft, the ENTER key 'appears' to work, but after I save it and then view it in preview mode it is not formatted correctly. Every line I created to separate paragraphs completely vanishes. I have tried several times to be sure it wasn't an error on my part. It appears that the New Editor has a bug. This bug prevents me from separating paragraphs and correctly formatting my instructable. Also, if it helps I have recreated the same issue using Safari and Google Chrome. Thanks!

It's been asked before, many times, but still has not happened. Can we please have formatting preserved in PMs? I've had a number of long PMs recently, and all very hard to read because they were in a single block of text. Yes, I know we can type in code ourselves, but I'm on my iPod right now, and a single line break in a PM takes 10 key-strokes!!

Wow, I have to say the changes to Instructables were not good ones. You took a perfectly usable interface for the projects and managed to make it harder to use. I feel frustrated that I had to dig to get what I wanted. And this whole Ace branding scheme, guess it's time for the site creators to cash out, right? Really, you've taken a site I enjoyed visiting and made it useless.

I noticed a few things on a few instructables and forum topics that I found interesting. In some cases, the bold and italics tags are not being closed, leading to these two cases Italics Look at the sidebar to the right Bold Everything past the first step, including the side bar

Hello; Several of our instructables have pre-formatted text in them. However recently this text has stopped displayed properly. It has gone from being multiple lines to a single long line. Is this a fixable issue? Examples: https://www.instructables.com/id/S99CDK8FWS6JUQS/ https://www.instructables.com/id/SAXXIILFSH7EDVM/ The Long line after "The Code"

I spent a lot of time formatting up my instructable to be clear and easily understood. Then, I saved the draft, but when I came back to my draft, none of the changes were there. This appears to be consistent. Try making a draft, format up the text, save it, leave, log back in, and see if the formatting is still there. I'm using MacOS 10.9.3, and Chrome for MacOS, version 35.0.1916.114 The URL I was working on when I noticed this: https://www.instructables.com/editInstructable/edit/EN4U85IHUYLSFIS/step/0 See attached screen shot. All the headings were formatted to H3 headings before I came back to edit this. None of the formatting I added appears to have been saved.

When I add some sourcecode, select it and format it as code from the dropdown menu, it looks all right. But when I later change something in my Instructable, the code gets messed up and I have to write the whole block again. It's really annoying :(

Recently, for some unknown reason, firefox started displaying the following pages very strangely: lifehacker, io9, and gizmodo. They all have a similar set-up but I can't figure why they don't display correctly. Below is a screenshot of the problem. If further images are needed they can be provided. Any ideas please comment or PM me. Thanks.

If I want text in an instructable to include characters that normally cause wiki formating magic to happen, how do I quote them ? For instance, if I want to enclose some text in square brackets:[my text](that was done with "preformatted" text. which changes the font and does a "block" at a time. Not what I want!)(couldn't find this in other pages about wiki formatting, either.)

. As you've probably figured out by now, I'm a big fan of Instructables. Great concept, great implementation, and a fantastic community of users. . I do believe, though, that the lack of text formatting options is holding back a lot of contributors and gives a rather drab look to a lot of iBles. . I understand that there are security and abuse issues with all features, but formatting options such as paragraph indent, tabular/columnar data, &c would be appreciated by the authors and would make the site look so much better.

I have posted a couple of rather long answers and noticed that the paragraphs had all been jammed together into one long paragraph. The last answer I wrote, I made sure to insert the paragraph spacing, and yet again, one long paragraph. Is this something that is a site issue, or am I missing something?

Using Windows 7, Pro-membership. All of a sudden a few weeks ago I can't get a space between paragraphs in the text box. If I press the source button it works, then as soon as I save it removes all the spaces between paragraphs. Pressing enter between existing text does not generate a carriage return and space either. What's going on? How do I get around this? Is it related to Pro membership features? Thanks for your help.

I just published an instructable but I'm dismayed to see the autoformatting has made it look pretty rotten. Steps 2 & 3 have wide aspect ratio images and they have been cropped and rendered in very low quality. The autoplay youtube function (where you can make a youtube video look like a gif) no longer works and the aspect ratio chosen seems to be ignored, so you get the black bars even when you do hit play. Any chance this cropping/breaking can be fixed? Thanks.

I have been away from Instructables for some time, and I came back, not much has changed after the pro feature was implanted. Which is good. ^^ However, I have a little problem with word formatting, when I tried using some symbols to change the way the words look, they don't work. Is this due to the pro feature? Or am I using the wrong symbles and my memory needs a little refreshing? Thanks! I just chose this picture randomly, I don't know what else to use. :P

In my recent instructable I was *more than slightly* annoyed that the new editor does simply not what I want it to do. Seperating the Text from some calculations with a blank line? Adding a few blanks to shift things a bit in? Nah, authors don't need that anyway, do they? But we want that! If we put a hell lot of work into quality projects, pictures, writeups, we want to be at least able to do the layout the way we want. Sure, if you're a pro everything can also be done by editing the html code, but the code generated by the editor is compleatly unformatted and definitly not intended to be read or modified by humans. So pleeease do something about this issue. It really bothers me. - nqtronix PS: It does work well in this editor, so where's the issue?!

What is going on with the new format for the different pages? All I can find is featured "ibles" with large pictures, wheres the zeitgist, recent, popular etc that used to be on the main page of each section (ride, outdoors, offbeat, green, life, etc etc?) Am I overlooking something? Is it just MY computer?

I am thinking about getting into large format photography & I was hoping that I could get some questions answered by other photgraphers on here. 1: How many of us out here use large format cameras? 2: What is the type of technique that causes the pictures to appear w/ a yellow or brown appearance to it that is used in vintage photo sessions? 3: Can I get some tips on developing w/ an enlarger it has been about 10 years since I've used one so I don't remember anything about that. Any help w/ this would be greatly appreciated, thank you ahead of time.

Back in the day, I read Popular mechanics all the time. They had a page for nifty home projects. Kind of the instructables of the time. As I recall, the whole idea was conveyed in 1 pic. If you knew how to use tools, you could do it. I find myself annoyed with having to click through pages of steps in instructables. But maybe that's just me. Maybe that's a better format for a generation without shop class and scoutmasters. I'm looking for feedback here. Am I the only one who likes all the instructions on 1 page? Do my -ibles with 1 big block of text and "refer to fig 3" work for you guys? (it would be nice if photo -ibles could have figure numbers on pics) But maybe that's too old school. https://www.instructables.com/id/HarpoonGrappling-Hook-Gun/ One of my buddies said my format would make printing it up easy. Usually I like to have directions on paper if I'm gonna refer to them while turning a wrench and gettin filthy. As far as a typical reader on -ibles, what's the best format?

The word-wrapping in PMs is broken. The easiest way to see what I mean is to look at the screenshot of this test PM I was kindly sent. It's not a major thing, but it does drop half-bricks in front of my bicycle of thought when I'm reading long PMs (of which I have had quite a few recently).

To Whomever has the ability to make this available, please, please, please seriously consider making the website mobile phone friendly. When I try to view the site on my Droid smartphone it is difficult because of the way the text displays. I love instructables and I also do a lot of web viewing on my phone. It would be nice if it were not so difficult. Thanks.

I got excited when I saw the ebooks the site now has. I downloaded a bunch of epubs for my Nook Color. Well, the first problem arose when I put them on the device and saw that most of them just have a random picture from one of the instructables in the book as the cover instead of those nice covers you made. Then I when I get inside the book, you can only see about a third of the cover image (it's way oversized). Also, the text is far too small and can't be change in size and, finally, most of them seem to get to a certain image on a certain page and no matter how many times you swipe to the next page, it's still the same image. You have to actually go to the page search to put it forward. I know it's a new thing you guys are doing, and it's a fantastic idea, but I'm just having huge problems on my device for it.

This bug has probably been documented thoroughly, and nearly every single person who writes an instructable must know it by now. When you use italics or bold (I'm sure there's more) when writing, the moment you backspace it goes to the (most previously written) italicized font and backspaces it instead. When you're still writing the word (or phrase) it goes to the back of the word. For someone who is in the middle of writing a massive instructable documenting nearly everything I know in Microsoft's shell scripting, it's very annoying every time I use italics to distinguish between normal writing and code, only to have to rewrite it after backspacing one of my typos. You can recreate this (assuming it happens for more people than just me) by adding a comment, licking on the rich editor, writing some stuff, write in italics and then backspace. I'm using Google Chrome, and I don't think screenshots would help here. Thanks.

Hi. I've been trying to install the xbox 360s hard drive files onto another hard drive using code I downloaded and an installer, (Or at least I think that's how It works O_O) The program, however, Runs in DOS and needs the Hard drive to be formatted in FAT to work. I can't seem to get my hard drive to format into FAT for some reason. SO can anyone tell me how to, or if mine is incapable of doing so, The article I read about doing this said some hard drives were not compatible, Why. Thanks/

I have the hard copy of an MRI ( it's in xray sheets). Unfortunately I don't have it in a CD. I need to send this abroad but I can't send the x-ray of the MRI just in case I need it here. I have taken pictures of the x-ray using a light box. Now I have been asked to send the pictures in DICOM format. I have no idea how that is done. I have about 5 x-ray sheets and in each there are about 29 pictures. I have taken individual pictures of each and every picture. Can someone please help me to achieve this? I need to do this ASAP! Thanks

My instructable has changed. https://www.instructables.com/id/Electronic-Wart-Removal-8211-No-Blood-Little-/ The step title formatting is not what I entered. I typed in the title but when previewed shows only part of the title with the rest of the title within the text body. It also has extra text, strange characters showing in the preview screen. When the whole step is viewed it looks correct. It's in the quick view (cursor over the step) that the problem shows.

Alright Instructables, I fold. It is with a sense of shame that I must ask: Does Instructables have a method (be a clandestine feature or a workaround) to allow a user to enter formatted math text (ex. summation signs, integrals, greek letters even)? In particular, I was trying to get latex to work (I thought I had seen another user do so once) on the wiki, but thus far my efforts have proved fruitless. Anyone out there know a way to do this?

Re: this thread , I hate to have to say this but I don't think it's the best idea to make a big thing ofd the ability to use arbitrary HTML in comments. Yes, it's great to be able to go G o o g l e all over the place, but the lack of source editor for non-pro members actually cripples the editor, including the ability to save the text of a comment with formatting/links etc. and post it later (or just keep it in case the editor screws up and deletes your comment, like it just did to me). While the point of the pro value-added features is to make people want to go pro and "non-essential but cool" features are probably the best way of doing that without creating resentment, I still suspect the anti-pro regiment like ReCreate etc. don't need another reason to accuse pro members of lording it over the great unwashed.

I'm writing a new Instructable using the New Editor, and the formatting on my intro page keeps reverting to an incorrect formatting. I start off with one sentence written in normal text formatting followed by a couple of line breaks. Then, I have the word "INTRO" in Header 3 formatting followed by a line break then a line in italicized normal text. After a short while, the word "INTRO" will change to normal text formatting and the line break will be replaced by a space so that the following italicized normal text line is next to the word "INTRO". I've tried correcting this several times, and it just keeps eventually reverting back to the undesired formatting. I have similar formatting in other parts of my Instructable, but this is the only place I've noticed this change occurring. Before and after pictures are attached.

So, I've been sending and receiving a bunch of messages lately, and every time I do, all my paragraph formatting gets stripped and my message arrives as an ugly and hard to read block of text. Is there a way to get around this? Does anybody know why this happens? (I wasn't sure where to put this, so I dropped it here. Is there an official area for website questions like this?) ~ Joe, ThePropNerds
