Cheesy Friday

What could be better on a cold, rainy Friday than grilled cheese sandwiches? I know, nothing! Sarah and I made some last Friday, taking inspiration from this Instructable. We used aluminum foil instead of freezer paper, and put butter on the outside of the bread so we got lovely browned sandwiches.I made another today. It's my New Favorite Method!

YAY! Excited to talk to you guys soon. P.S. You can also ask me not-contest-things if you want, too. Especially if it's about my cats. ASK ME ABOUT ME CATS!!1

Instructables Build Day Turns into Pants-less Formal Friday

The last Friday of the month is Build Day at Instructables where everyone builds and documents projects (hence Noahw's flood of awesome slideshows!). My project today was to alter this really sweet Geoffrey Beene pin-striped suit I got at a consignment shop for cheap. The problem was that it was a size 42, so I needed both the pants and jacket taken in about 8 inches, which requires taking the sleeves off. Rachel agreed to help, and pretty soon I was running around the control tower still in my Formal Friday shirt and tie, but with the new pants on inside out as she tried to get them to fit. We didn't finish, and I'll post a full Instructable when we do, but for now I'll let the pictures tell the story...

Any ideas on making a fairly realistic Jason mask (Friday the 13th)??

I'm looking to make a realistic, fairly inexpensive Jason (Friday the 13th, hockey mask, machete-wielding badass) mask for my Halloween costume and I need some help. The only affordable masks I'm finding are flimsy plastic ones like the one on the photo below or foam masks that look like they're for a 5 year old. I've seen some pretty good fiberglass ones on ebay (like the one in the second picture I've included), but they run over a $100....and none of them are exactly what I want. So, I want to make one.... I'm thinking I can take one of the cheap plastic ones and alter it....I want to do more than just paint it though. I want to make the mask more rigid and appear more like resin or fiberglass than plastic. So, I need some sort of liquid or putty that looks something like resin to cover the mask in that will make the mask more rigid and still allow me to paint on it. and I'll probably drill some more holes to match the ones in the movie and put leather straps on it. any thoughts? anyone made a Jason mask before that could offer some advice?

Fried Contest Launches 5/13, HQ Celebrates with Fried Day Friday

We're launching the Fried Foods contest on May 13th. Enter your best fried food recipe to win frying tools and accessories that look remarkably similar to the ones below: Update: We fried food for about three hours today. The fryers are still running, the oil is still hot, and there have been no injuries. All in all, a pretty great Fried Day. Here are some photos from today's extravaganza: Everybody hovering near the fryers, along with the Cap'n Crunch that was used to bread fried chicken. ewilhelm trying out cryofrying with his hamburger patties. Instructable should be forthcoming. ------------------------------------------ We're so excited about the notion of a fried foods contest, that tomorrow will be Fried Day at Instructables HQ. Randofo brought in a pair of deep fryers, I'm bringing in some liquid nitrogen, and everybody's bringing something to plunge into the hot oil. Some ideas we're kicking around: deep fried cupcake deep fried oreo cryo-fried meats fried chicken with an unusual crust fruits I'm particularly excited to play with the cryo-frying technique I first learned of from the series of Modernist Cuisine videos circulating on Youtube. In cryo-frying, you flash freeze the exterior of fully-cooked food, then deep fry to brown the outside without overcooking the interior. But don't take my word for it. Because you can watch these inspirational videos for yourself: So, anybody have any great ideas for the Fried Foods contest? Are we missing anything awesome?
