What is this item? Answered

The item is made of metal. I assume that is a 'Stand' of some type, but I could be totally wrong. The bottom half of the 'Stand' can be freely rotated. The circular 'Stand' has three equally spaced holes, which I assume could be used to screw the stand on to something. The u-shape, at the top, has a rubber sleeve on each side, which can be easily removed. There is no text anywhere on the item.

What is this item?

A friend gave this to me, wanted me to find out what it is. I have no idea, she was a bit creeped out by it. It's small, as you can see, sitting on counter in front of coffee pot. When it sits right side up, it looks like a goats head, and upside down it looks like an old man with beard. Someone suggested to me that it could be an end to a samurai sword, however I think that is incorrect. What do you guys think?

Is there a good glue that is not effected by cold temps?

The stone attached to one of my husbands tie tacks came off--it was glued on.  I think the reason it came off is that he was out in the cold a lot that day.  Does this sound reasonable?  Is there a glue out there somewhere that is not effected by temperatures? Thanks in advance!

Lost item finder?

Is there some instructable for this? Basically, just a penny sized sticker that can be placed on any item. If lost, then a device could easily scan for them (5 feet radius range, maybe) I've searched for systems like this, but they're all expensive.  It should be pretty simple, maybe passive RFID tags, and some kind of device that detects if it is closer or farther. I've checked on reader, but any cheap ones are in the $160 range and 3 inch distance. Long distance ones are like 500 and above. Except readers aren't really necessary. There isn't really any information that needs to be read. Just a way to tell if the signal is closer. Something like that could probably made in the $20 range but i wouldn't know I'm asking cause I lost the memory card for my camera (case and all). It was sitting on a desk, then it wasn't. It had some vacation photos that i hadn't transfered to PC yet. It was a grueling search, and I couldn't find it.  At some point in our lives, everyone needs something like that. Losing something important sucks, expensive or not.

Trying to identify this item?

Obviously I am new here if I posted in the wrong place please tell me where to post.    Is this a Farm implement, tool, heater. It is about 25" tall, with a 10" diameter. There is a closed bottom why it is raised off the ground i don't know. Rust area is from prior heat damage to the galvanized metal. It is too early to be a charcoal brick starter. I know it is not a chicken feeder. All answers will be appreciated.

Attaching items to mugs?

I would like to make myself a bespoke steampunk-esque mug using metal clockwork gears and cogs.  I've tried to find what I want ready made but nothing is quite right. What would be the best adhesive to use that would withstand regular use with hot drinks (we're talking at least a dozen cups of tea a day, I'm British) and would be dishwasher safe? I also suspect I may need to seal the pieces once stuck on, what is good for that? Thanks.

College Application Items ? Answered

I'm a Junior, and I've being thinking (like I should be) about my college apps. I've got good grades; but I know that's not everything to the admissions office. I haven't done much around school for extracurricular, but I'm not sure what I can count for that. I'm really into my church youth program, and I have been for about five years now. We've done a lot as a group; we've gone on mission trips to places like Chattanooga and Baltimore; put on fundraiser productions (plays, dinner theaters, et cetera), taken in foreign exchange students, and general service to the area. The mission trips were more service-based than worship-based. Can I count any of this as "extracurricular" on my apps? Or does it all need to be via the school I go to?

Please help me identify this item!!!

A few of these items were found by 3 different volunteers during a beach cleanup in New Jersey, after Hurricane Sandy rolled through, destroying huge sand dunes and leaving debris everywhere.  They are clear yellowish glass tubes or ampules (ampoules) filled with a white powder.  I searched all over the internet for a match to these with no luck, but I did find an article on a large storm that hit NJ in 1962, in which a woman reported,    “We had sea grass everywhere, and there were glass ampules everywhere that contained a white powder. Our father told my sister and me not to touch them.”  Also found on the cleanup were old glass bottles all over the place from the 1920's-1950's so I'd imagine these could possibly be just as old.  Maybe they came from the sea, maybe unearthed from being under the sand for sometime? Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks for looking!

Marketplace to Buy/Sell Items!

Hey Everyone! It's been a while, but I've been busy working on a new project called Marketplacr - a site where members of communities can buy/sell goods from/to each other.  Think of it as similar to a site like Etsy, except geared towards techy/awesome Instructables users. I thought Instructables users would really enjoy a site like this, so I set up one of the first marketplaces for us.  Sign up on the site, list items from your Instructables, and see what other users are selling stuff from their projects. Feel free to let me know about any problems/issues/suggestions/complaints  :) http://marketplacr.com/Maker_Market/ And a how-to-use guide: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Sell-Components-from-your-ProjectsInstruct/

Reshaping Rondo'ed pepakura items? Answered

I've done some digging, and I keep getting mixed answers on this. I have a pepakura helmet I have been working on, and recently, I had the back end of it warp on me. I applied rondo (which is roughly 70% figerglass and 30% bondo) It warped while I had it sitting in my car on a rather hot day, so my hopes for fixing it are high.  However, I have already taken a heat gun to it (which did make it very flexible) to reshape it. However, it always returns back to it's original misshaped form. Am I just no applying enough heat to it? Or have I basically accidentally created a memory material? Thanks in advance!

Latest Firefox in Windows 10. "Set Promoted Items," after being totally nonfunctional when the new profile pages launched (I could click the button but the pop-up window would just show the 5 items that were already there, not give me an option to change them), still isn't working for me. It lets me drag and drop to rearrange the items but then when I hit "Save" it just gets stuck on "Saving...". It's been like that for at least 10 minutes now. I think I read in another post somewhere that it could take an abnormally long time, but it seems like that should be resolved by now.

Arduino + RF to create item/finder?

IDEA 1. I've got the idea to create this kind of project where people nowadays being careless and misplace their item. So to counter this problem, i want to create a device which can detect the object/item within an area/radius of the receiver and transmitter. 2. This is not only for item/object but also can be placed on your children just in case they are away from you thus this device can alert you in sound, sight ( blinking LED ) , and vibration. PROBLEM 1. Is it possible to only use 1 transmitter and receiver? 2. Just in case for future uses, can compass be implanted in this device where it will always shows to the transmitter? 3. Currently programming are very hard for me, where can i get reference for programming this kind of device?

Need I.D. on Circuit Board Items

I took one of my old laser guns apart a little while ago, but I'm not very tech-savvy. I took these pictures (very sorry about the bad exposure, blur, and quantity, I'm a bit tired) to see if any of y'all could help me. All I know right now is: There are two circuit boards (one from the gun, one from the vest that you shoot) The cone-shaped black thing is the IR diode There is a receptor on the vest for the IR (no duh, right?) There are quite a few resistors and capacitors There are quite a few switches and push-button ignitions (used for starting games) There is a speaker Things I would like to know: Is the speaker perhaps of any quality, say, for amplifying songs? What are those semi-circle shaped black things, under them on the circuit board it says something along the lines of Q3? The capacitors say 10v on them. (One even says 25v on it.) Does that mean it handles 10v? What is the best way to remove the solder from the wires and board so I can usify (my own word) the parts? What is the yellow box-shaped object on the smaller circuit board (you can see it in the fourth. sixteenth, and last picture)? What is the circular metallic object on the larger board (seen best on the twelfth picture)? Thanks for all and any help!
