The Ice King's Crown

It's my take on the Ice King's crown. For the "gold" part, I first tried gluing plastic paint buckets together, but they were too thin. I ended up covering the outside of one bucket in Bondo and then cutting in the peaks with a jeweler's saw. For the jewels, I cut a positive mold for each one out of a scrap of cutting board, then pressed them into clay to make a negative mold. Then I mixed up some casting resin and red dye and cast the jewels. They were epoxied onto the crown before I locked them in with Bondo bezels. If I were to do it again, I would use a more acute conic shape and make the peaks taller. I might also use fiberglass-reinforced Bondo and try a different gold paint. If I'm real adventurous I'll cast the thing out of scrap aluminum.

300 Costume Making Help

I want to be King Leonidas from 300 for Halloween, but I don't want a cheap vinyl costume, or anything like that. I want actual metal..just having some trouble figuring out what all to do.Helmet - I've heard that aluminum roof flashing is easy to cut and work with..any ideas on how to make the skull cap/hair on top?(Mixing bowl suggested by Jessy)Cape - I'm going to take a deep red piece of cloth, cut up an old belt for the straps, and make some kind of clasp.Spear - Probably some conduit with a cardboard or possibly metal tip (how does one paint metal?)Sword - If aluminum flashing is easy to cut, ill cut out a blade, and then a plywood handle. You know how Shakespeares company was called the Chamberlain's men, and until Queen Elizabeth 1st, and then they changed it to The Kings men. Why is that, wouldnt they change it to the Queen's Men if Queen Elizabeth had just started ruling?!?!?!?!?

Alright, a bit of a complicated question, so bear with me (if you dare) __Purpose of project:__ Build a robot that solves the game "Fastest King" as fast as possible Here is a video of the game being played. The object is to clear the descending squares as fast as humanly (or robotically, in this case) possible. __Method of attack:__ -Four servos with attachments that allow interface with capacitve touch screens are positioned above each button -Four Photoresistors detect when a square is in the bottom position, ready to be pressed. -Potentiometer to control the speed of the arms and how fast they return to the "unpressed" position (denoted in the code by "d" or the delay in between the servo write commands) -On off switch, of course -All I/O is controlled by an arduino nano 328 IMAGES apologies for the terrible image quality, can update with better ones if necessary. (seems simple enough, right?) __Description of problem:__ Everything works swimmingly, except the game doesn't "remove" the square as soon as the correct button is pressed. this causes, when "d" is sufficiently low (100-75ms), the servos to press more than once for each square, causing mistakes within the game, slowing the overall time down. __Attempted fix:__ I attempted to implement some code that would cause each if statement checking for the square to also check that it hadn't pressed earlier within a certain time "doubletapdelay" effectively adding a delay in between doubletaps but leaving the rest of the servos free to activate. the odd thing is, the code i put in, (visible below, relevant parts bolded and commented) works well, but sometimes is completely ignored. even with the doubletap delay at 1000 ms while testing it, it would occasionally run as if it wasn't checking for double taps at all. If you think you can help out, or have a better idea for a way to do anything in this project, feel free to let me know. also, i can post any information you would like about this such as additional pictures or video, (though video is a bit difficult since my phone is inside of the machine whilst operating. I think Florida is ruled by a mad king.

I just heard a story on the news that one of the local school districts will be ending summer vacation two weeks early. When school starts is codified by law and the only way for a school to receive an exemption to open early is to be an "academically high achieving school". Does this make sense to anyone? Schools that are doing good (as defined by a remarkably stupid standardized test) get more time to teach, whereas schools that perform poorly get less time. I can't really understand that reasoning. I've worked in public education, and I'll never understand the reasoning behind anything they do.and as an aside.Florida, come to play ball at the beach, stay because you've been imprisoned for playing ball at the beach. ~sigh~Wanted to add one more thing, The brevard county transit system is names "Space Coast Area Transit" AKA "The SCAT" and their website is If you have no idea why I'm mentioning this, consider yourself lucky.

I need a circuit that 'buffers' voltage applied to an electric motor to slow down its movements. For a record player.

I'm looking to build a circuit that slows the voltage spike sent to an electric motor. Something that would progressively apply power and progressively power down.It's for a linear turntable. The tone-arm is belt-driven by an electric motor. The issue is, the motor moves so suddenly that it creates an audible 'thump' in the speakers from the quick movement. Would a capacitor in parallel do this?

I hope I hit the right forum. It occurred to me that something was missing for the contest... They need a theme song.  As an example, let me offer the following. Terrible tragedy. Grant Thompson has passed away.

I don't know how to post this, but maker extraordinaire, Grant Thompson, The King of Random, has passed away from a paragliding accident.I, personally, have learned so much from his wealth of knowledge over the years. A friend showed me a video of his 5 years ago and for years, I remember waiting anxiously for him to post a new video.One of the first people and possibly the most influential people in the online maker community, all around the world.
