I just made a gun with a 10 bullet magazine that shoot's 72.1784778 feet!!!!!!!!!!!!! with four rubberbands!!!!!! I think it can hold more but I haven't tried yet. What I wanted to know is how to make a good measurement system for proving range, I would appreciate if someone could tell me. (Also I told people my oodammo sniper shot 90 feet, this was a mistake, I thought a meter was 4.5 feet). I will soon post a video proving the (unangled) range. Hi! These are my guns that are coming out in September when i can get my camera sorted. I've actually finished the 1st one, the SS-90 and this can be found here: instructables.com/id/90_SS_Desechos_P_90. Now these will be the VQS range after the initials of the latin for 'swift and silent'; 'volitas quod silensis'. You know in car firms like Mercedes and Audi you have upgrade lines? AMG and the 'S' line respectively. Well , this is one for knex guns. So for example, the P-90 style gun will be the (VQ)90-SS . V, Q, 90 (as in P-90) ,S ,S(sears sytsem). They all have individual names as well. Here is the guns they are based on - 1. Will be the SS-LE/'Bastille'. This is an old MK. 2 Sten. It has a firing pin and a side loading mag, with a working silencer (hopefully). 2,3 and 4. This is finished ! The 90-SS/'Desechos' - Spanish for refusal. This next gun is a cross between these 2. It has a sears system and 6/10 round hopper - also TOTAL customisability. 5. Hopefully the next to be built. Will be the M-1G/'Adamantine'. An M1 Garand. 6+7. Will be the CD-94/'Flint'. A cross between these 2, although they are essentially the same. The first is a Mauser C96 'Broomhandle', the 2nd a DL44 blaster used by Hans Solo. 8+9. Will be the HM-5S/Cetaebro - Greek for dangerous shadow. These are the H&K MP5SD and the MP5 Navy repectively. Hopefully it will be a choice of 2 - real semi auto, or firing pin for proper power. A detachable silencer too. Note: 10. I could be trying to make a Henry Repeater Action .22 rifle too.

I'm working on a project where I need to have a transmitter and a receiver with an alarm, so when they are apart a certain distance the alarm goes off. I need the alarm to be attached with the transmitter not the receiver, where it will be attached to a valuable stuff for example.

HERE IT IS. The Brickster LDS is a hybrid crossbow. It doesn't have a bow. It has a range of 250 to 300 feet with 16 to 32 rubber bands. It is extremely strong and could hold about 80lbs of force. The arrows are smaller than an average crossbow arrow so they fly slightly faster. It has no track so it is a slingshot type crossbow. Will be posted in a month or 2. Amazingly powerful. Has over 800 pieces and a Ballista attachment that rolls and keeps it at a 30 degree agle with the ground. Low piece and a great gun, If only I could show you. . . . . . . . . . . WAIT, I CAN!!!!!!!!!!

As the question states. Anyone know of a good, cheap, auto range DMM? The more features and higher ranges the better. I don't need true RMS, would like capacitance checking ability as I reuse a lot of used electronic components from stuff people throw away, and I always saw auto range as more of a convenience, not a necessity. I would like to spend as little as possible, as I'm sure I'll eventually burn it out on one of those used components, like I did the $20 harbor freight clamp meter I had.

I have a targus wifi scout and I would like to extend the range of it. I have tried a few different things, and nothing seems to really work. Does anyone know a good reliable way to extend the range of this device without throwing it away and buying a better one. I got this one for free and dont mind messing it up if I have to though. Can anyone recommend a good instructable to boost the reception range for my computer's wifi device? I know there are tons of them on here already, I just need to know which ones might have the longest range. Another thing is what design would be best. The kind involving a parabolic dish/mesh to direct signals to a usb dongle. One that is more of an omni direction antenna. One that makes use of one of the old sattelite tv dishes sitting in the garage. Requesting advice, comrades.

I bought a FM transmitter for an ipod. I would like to boost the range of the device. (I know it is illegal but would like to get more range than 2 feet.) I think I need to build an external antenna but need to know where to hook it up to the thing. The transmitter I have is a ge FM transmitter for ipod.If anyone has done anything like this or have any useful links it would be great. I don't know anything about circuit making so help would be great on that as well.

So i was already planning on making both my cars keyless with RFID technology and possibly the house door to and i stumbled upon RFID implants. now they are pretty new to me but every thing i have seen on them, they are only able to be read at about 2 inches away. With a good enough reciever could i increase that range to work better for my applicatiion?

I have a project in which I need a stationary device (A) to pair with/detect a mobile device (B) and only that device. Once detected/paired, I need device B to light up when pulled out of range from device A. I also need to be able to adjust this range in some manner. I was looking at RFID, but I am worried about interferance from other RFID tags. Not sure if bluetooth could even do what I want in the size that I need (no more than 2x2x.25 inches for either device.) ANyone have any suggestions?

Hi all, I'm wanting to make a jig for a production project requiring a sensitive optical measure of movement with a focal length of 5-10 mm. I thought an optical mouse might be a good start but the lenses in a few I've tried require the device to be too close. It needs to be no bigger than the electronics of a mouse. If anyone has a lens that could be perfect or other ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks, D

Hello. I got a Wireless Mouse that still working fine.The signal between the Mouse and its receiver is not so great, about half meter, and it stop responding. So I took apart the Mouse and its Receiver. The antenna of the Mouse is kind of steal (I think but its color) and the one of the receiver is coil of very thing copper about 3/4 turns around a piece of plastic. So as said I would like to increase the signal between both, for better rang. What I have found around the best material is copper, so here is my issue. Is it better to modify the antenna of the Mouse or its receiver?? Should I rather use thicker Copper Wire and do few spinning around a piece of plastic, or use a thinner Copper Wire and do a lot of spin around a piece of plastic. So what better for a strong signal: - thicker wire and less spinning or - thinner Wire and more spinningThanx for those that would give a some advise/recommendations. I am will upload pictures later when possible. PS: I manage to add to it a Switch to turn off the mouse to extend battery Life.

I'm trying to build a guidance system for RC airplanes and drones. This should work by sending different IR signals to different locations in the air, so the drone will pick up signals specific to one location, enabling it to know where it is. (Like a mini, simplistic VOR, if you know about aviation) I'll probably use an Arduino on the ground with the transmitter, and a Raspberry pi onboard the airplane. I would like the IR signals to reach as far as possible, so does any one know of any small, high power IR LEDs? Also, if you have a good idea on how the signals could be accurately focused, so they line up next to each other without over lapping, let me know.Thanks!

Greetings K'nex community. I know I have been dead for the past few days, but that is because I have been very busy working on my latest and greatest K'nex gun, the K4. Before I start, let me just point out that when I say "latest and greatest", I mean it. This gun is all about innovation, power, and performance. It utilizes a new breed of pump (a slide in this case) that runs along a track system, allowing it to maintain a firm grip on the gun without getting in the way of any other major mechanisms. It also uses a new kind of ammo, a new bow system (which is not yet on the gun) that allows the trigger to be place in the front of the gun that keeps it from interfering with any other mechanisms, and many other mechanisms that you just wouldn't see in an ordinary gun. At this point, it is not yet complete, the bow is still in the works but most of the more tedious elements have been taken care of. So now I'll just shut up and give you guys a peek at the K4! In a thread in the Green group, AnarchistAsian and I were discussing his coil guns. I posed the question of what range he could get, and he asked me to go through the physics derivation. Here it is, simplified to require just algebra and trig.The kinetic energy of the projectile E = ½mv2, gives v = sqrt(2E/m) as the speed at launch. Let θ be the angle at which you launch (θ=0° is horizontal, θ=90° is straight up). Then you can decompose the speed into two components: vh = v cos(θ) is the horizontal speed,vv = v sin(θ) is the vertical speed.Gravity only pulls vertically, so the projectile's vertical speed will be slowed down until it reaches its maximum altitude, then it will fall back until it hits the ground. The horizontal speed will remain constant until it hits the ground and stops. To figure out the range, you need to know the time t that the projectile flies before it hits the ground; then the range is just R = vhtEnergy conservation guarantees that it's downward speed at the end is equal to its original upward speed, just with a change of sign. That also means that the total flight time of the projectile will be half going up and half going down. There is no way that a knex gun can reach 60 feet using the simple ram mechanism. Ive made the NAR and fired it using 3 brand new #64 sized rubber bands and ammo with fins! It did NOT reach 100 feet or even 60. The NAR only reached 50 feet.Ive also built the TR Sayer and TR 8. They also did not reach the length that the owners claimed. Its really sad that people are putting high ranges even though they're all a lie! What do you think?

Idea is to slightly modify the annoy a tron circuit to turn on a laser pointer at a specific time interval, then back off... Wondering what the best solution for a long-range lidar setup would be using Arduino. I see that there was a similar question about 10 years ago, but seeing as the sensors/meters available have greatly improved since then, i was hoping to get some insight from people with a good deal more understanding of the issue.(NOTE: Apologies for how long this is, but figure i would try to save anyone who is kind enough to answer this, the time of having to ask what the specs are...)Description:Can assume clear day, so i would assume something using higher frequency light would be more ideal, but again open to whatever suggestions make sense.Range is more like that of a boat radar, so upwards of 1km would be great, but anything above 100m would probably work. And would need it to have enough detail to say separate out leaves from tree trunk for anything under say 40m, and past that it can get less accurate if that helps make it easier to setup. 180-360 degrees measurement. If i have to build my own servo to rotate a range finder that has the distance/accuracy that isn't likely a problem.Ideal would mountable on a moving car, similar in many ways to existing lidar for vehicles. (I am not sure if those are sold on the market, and could be used and hooked up to a pc, etc to record the data already? If so that might be the answer i want, depending on price.)Student budget, so cheaper is preferred. Willing to do some programming, etc to get it work with lower cost.I need to send the output back to a pc/tablet/phone to record the data which will be used for a vfx project I am working on. And i will likely need a reading every second or less, ideally, 24 or 30 frames per second would be awesome. I can do the coding if all i am getting is a bunch of distances/angles/etc to store it, just as long as the sensor can scan fast enough for instance if i have to attach it to a servo, can i spin it fast enough to get that kind of data coming down the pipe to the Arduino or pc, etc.That's pretty much the requirements. Curious what the large brains out there will say as they smack me down for being naive, which i have no doubt this project is....My general feeling is that going with camera distance seems both not accurate enough at that distance without using a super expensive set of cameras, and also would require a good deal of software to get working, say if you are comparing to camera feeds, in realtime etc. I don't imagine I could get whatever Elon has in his Tesla's for instance, wonder how good their distance calculations are. So it seems to me this is likely a case for some electromagnetic emitter/sensor and possible using amplitude modulation, but I am not even sure there are sensors out there that can detect such accuracy. I am curious if radar is not able to get the detail I was hoping for, and that is why lidar systems are used for grabbing details for movie sets etc, though doesn't radar go down to 1mm length waves? Not sure what freq say a boat radar uses? I guess, also, I want to avoid sending any waves out that I am not suppose to, not even sure what the requirements/restrictions are around that? I imagine lidar is fine because it is just light, so that is all ok, but radar might be I guess an issue anyway if you are sending it out past 100m for instance? I know boats do it, but not sure what freq, and whether it is ok to drive around with it on a car for instance? I don't want to break any laws that way either, so yea, guess i will have to look that up. I might be way over my head, but figure worst I can do it be told that. I am new to this subject, but I do have a degree in math so coding/math doesn't scare me, but the rest, Arduino, etc I have only really had a bit of experience helping code ardruino's for my friends projects, but never setup one from scratch. One of the projects I've been spit-balling for a very long time requires me to be able to build some sort of range finder (if I'm using the correct term). Basically, I would like to create a "finder" unit and a "hider" unit[s]. My thought would be to us RF of some sort, so the "hider" unit will spit out a certain frequency, that the "finder" will pick up and react to (in this case, speed up the blinking of some LED's and turn some servo's to set levels). This doesn't need to be exact. So long as I can detect a decent range so I have a cold, warm, warmer, and on fire points to use, it'll do the desired deed. Price is another factor, as I would like to keep this around the ballpark of $30 per unit. Thanks in advance!!

Hello all...I was looking in at the discussions of the possibility of long range radio control airplane operation and can make a few comments drawn from my research into the topic, with my opinions directed toward the USA market area ; First, Americans are bound by Federal Communications Commission regulations so we must abide by them or risk steep fines or legal trouble if caught. Second, the frequencies assigned by the FCC for radio control hobby use are already allocated, so modifications to your control systems in terms of frequencies could be illegal. Third, the maximum output for radio systems in the hobby is 1000mw (1 watt), which will easily control your miniature aircraft out to 1 to 2 miles, where you will need a video camera, transmitter, reciever and viewing device to even keep track of it ! There are several manufacturers that are way ahead of most of us here - offering pre made systems that are plug and play (no head scratching needed) . Search "FPV systems" on your computer and you'll find them. Bear in mind that to use these systems in America, you will need to obtain an amateur radio (ham) operator license to be legal (again, so if you get checked, you won't get in big trouble with the Federal Government ). I'm still looking into it myself, but if you want to see a good example of a really sharp Canadian who has a handle on this, search " VRflyer" on YouTube. He started doing this quite a few years ago and has some great video of his projects and results !

I'm trying to find a range finder that can measure distances less than 1 meter and puts out a 0-5v signal based on the range. It needs to refresh quickly and be accurate to +/- 2 cm. It is measuring distance to the ground which will be pretty flat. Thanks in advance for guidance.

I was looking for some type of glue that is fairly cheap and will toughly bond polyethelene tarp that i will use to make my homeade range tent it needs to hold well be waterproof and foldable to fold with the tent.

I PURCHASED MY MOTHER, who lives 200 ft from me, a DSL subscription to share. The phone company innstalles a WESTELL 327w router and I have a sony Vaio VGN-NW310F laptop. Even though we had no clear line of sight, I still occaisionallyy got one and RARELY 2 bars. The 1st thing I did was bought a Hawking HWUN3 wifi booster which plugs right into my USB. Great idea in theory, but it made no difference and was possibly even worse. Plus, Hawkings Customer service is absolutely heinous, pitiful, and incompetant. So I returned it. Funny...when i bought, it took 5 minutes for them to extract the money from my account, but 6 weeks to return it..but I digress. I then upgraded the antenna on her router with a LINKSYS HGA7S 7dba antenna which helps a little, which is to say I get 1 or 2 bars more relliably. I can get email but the signal is still too iffy to do much else. question is this: I am willing to mount something outside and run a USB cable inside, or is there something INSIDE that will pick up/amplify or carry the signal to the laptop - either by means of a USB cable or not? Also, is there software required? I am a disabled vet and this laptop is one of the few things I have, so I need help! I'd prefer responses to my email, firstname.lastname@example.org (and that's a zero after the 'b', not the letter 'o'. what can I do to get a stronger AND more reliable signal? As Ferris Bueller's teacher Ben Stein would say..."Anyone?.....Anyone?....." What's my best option here, folks? Also, if there is a better place on this or any other site to post this, lemme know!!!
