Is writing an art form? Answered

Is writing considered as an art form? I think it is. You create highly emotive pictures using pen and paper instead of paint or other mediums. Your opinions?

It definitely is. You can paint an image of something beautiful or something ugly with the stroke of a pen.

Like everything else considered as Art, it certainly CAN be. I don't think that normal prose, written in the in my forums and blogs would be considered art, anymore than crude maps drawn by hand would be (they are, after all, drawings). Art is pretty much within the (senses) of the beholder :-)

For instance, the following would be closer to art then what I started my post with:

I think that I shall never see,
a billboard lovely as a tree.

:-) Some consider punning an art too, well, maybe good punning if there is such a thing ;-)

Calligraphy is "beautiful writing" so calligraphy is writing. calligraphy is art. writing can also be picture writing such as graffiti. there is also a type of writing which name escapes me.it is when the writing is the same when read upside down as it is right side up. like in that book, angels and demons

I think so, especially when you get all e.e. cummings with it. :)
