I've just made a new friend. He's called "Womble" - Picture added!
Womble is a 1995...
19,000 miles on the clock...
British Racing Green...
1275cc...
MINI MAYFAIR!!!
Yes, folks, it has finally happened. I have my Mini. Kitewife spotted him in the local free paper last night, I went to see him this afternoon, took a test drive, and I now have sore cheeks from all the grinning.
I'll be taking the cash round on Wednesday or Thursday, bank allowing, and driving away in the most perfect car on the planet.
Full service history, four speed box, no servos on the brakes, or the steering. Single-point injection engine, automatic choke, it is absolutely gorgeous...
EDIT
Here he is! I've tweaked the picture a little - it was a 2-second exposure under street lighting, with the camera balanced on a wall.
He's really greener than that.

. I'm sure that's the best that could be done, considering the poor lighting available, but that looks black on my screen. How about some daylight pics? And at least one closeup of the wheels - those look kewl!

Hey, I only just picked it up at 18:00, then went for a drive in the country. Daylight pics tomorrow, UK time.

Ooh, very tidy indeed.

I think so :-)

With the wonders of modern computer technology I can reveal that Kiteman's new Womble will look something like this: (except without the green tint to the windscreen and lights)

Hah, nice trick.

That car looks great! Nice find!
Reply 12 years ago
That's not the real one, just a googled image.
Reply 12 years ago
If the car in the picture is the same model as the one you bought, then that is awesome!
Reply 12 years ago
Yes, it's the same model - I'll post proper photos as soon as I pick it up.

How much didja pay?
Reply 12 years ago
2750GBP, and it's worth much more.

FREE??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Reply 12 years ago
I'm assuming that means that the paper was free, not that the advertised items are free.
Reply 12 years ago
We'll see....
Reply 12 years ago
He said he was going to take the people money and get the car.
Reply 12 years ago
Yes, the paper was free, the car was 2750GBP (and, according to my sources, it's worth another 1000).

That's awesome. I'm a bit jealous. I have very fond memories of my old British iron. I even saved the glass fuel reservoir off my '62 Rover to use as a shotglass.

Gorgeous! Congrats on your fancy-pants car!

. So what's that - about 100 HP in a 1200 pound car? Should be peppy enough for a fuddy-duddy school teacher. LOL . We should race! Looks like that would corner a lot better than my Mustang, but my 289 CID engine (~4700 cc) should be able to make up the difference on the straightaways. Vrrooooommmm! . What configuration does the engine use? Inline? V? Horiz opposed (boxer)?
Reply 12 years ago
It's an in-line transverse engine (it has to be transverse to fit under that bonnet!). Most of the weight is over the front wheels, so it'll go wherever I point it. Back when I had my first Mini, all 998cc of it could be my friends 3-litre Capri across town. Of course, I got left in the dust out of town...
Reply 12 years ago
That is until a corner reared it's ugly head and the capri decided to exit this bend backwards... It seems to work better with a tinkered pinto engine, granted this was one of obscene fiddledom, turbo added... Nice buy! I always wanted a mini, 'cept I wanted one with an empty engine bay so I could throw in something like a fireblade engine (just for kicks...) Hopefully the many miles will rack up well enjoyed...

I'm so happy for you! Yay!

My parents had a matching pair of completely bodged mini's about 10 years ago. One of them was really bodged. I mean, painted with black hammerite amounts of bodged.
Congratulations though! I get bought a Mini when I pass my test (Having just started lessons).

You should start looking now - decent Minis are like hen's teeth. I had my first for nearly half a year before I turned 17, just to make sure I had it. Womble was a lucky strike - I was expecting to spend the next two months looking for something this good, and to travel half the country.

Luckily my Grandad used to work on Mini's a lot so even if we find a semi-decent one I've got a reliable repairman.

Yes! Kiteman! I was seriously smiling when opening this topic. =]
-When does Wombleman sign up on Instructables?

Nice, even the '95 Minis are nicer than today's ;-)
Now you just need to take it to the track and get some stats...
