Light project for a new room. Answered

Hi everyone. My parents recently bought a new house and it turns out one of the rooms has no lamp connections whatsoever(Everything is ok, there just isn't any wires for the light bulbs).Because of multiple reasons we can't call an expert over so the job falls on me.I have experience in electronics but I'm afraid to try adding a route like the one that should be there so I'm searching for something safer :).All ideas are welcome :)

Are you trying to add a ceiling light or do you want to add a new outlet to plug in a lamp for a room? Are there any existing outlets in the room. You probably moved into an older house that needs to be updated or they just finished the room to complete the house so the builder could get out of there. A pic would be helpful. There are some easy surface-mount solutions you can try but that involves tapping into an existing wall outlet.

I am trying to generally light the room up, it would be best if it can be a ceiling lamp but I'll take a look at any other versions that do the trick if i can make it. There are 2 outlets and they both work. Unfortunately i don't have a camera to take some pics.

1. If there is an IKEA or lighting store, you can get track lighting or ceiling lights that just screw to the ceiling beams with a cord that runs down the wall to the outlet. A switch is inline or they have a pull switch from the lamp. There is also wall sconce type of similar lights. 2. Assuming you don't want to go through the trouble of routing a wire behind the wall and ceiling which involves fishing a wire through hidden holes you have to drill through beams and access holes you need to put in the walls and repair them afterwards. The best bet is to go to a home center that sells surface-mount wire runs and electrical boxes. You need a few basic tools like drill, screwdriver, hacksaw, electrical tester, wire stripper, and measuring tape. You buy an extender box which juts the outlet a bit so that you can attach the new wiring run to the ceiling box for the light. You can also add a switch in the circuit if you like with a switch box. They wiring races are metal or plastic sheaths which screw to the wall to cover the cable. You can paint to match. Shut off the circuit breaker to the wall outlet. Test to make sure it is dead and then you can wire up your new circuit. Lots of stuff on the internet to guide you through basic home wiring. Good luck.
