Update for the search bar? search for ingredients Answered

Ive got an idea for the search bar. im 13 years old and im new to the site, ive made a few things out of it so far, but im still a beginner. i usually come across old stuff like beat boxes, ps2s, and a bunch of other stuff that id like to make into something, but i can never think of all the possibilities of things to do with it. so i though what if we added an option to search for a key ingredient in an instructable? thoughts? comments?

Technically, you can already do that by using the search box (to the far right of the menu bar). As far as I know, the results are based on the keywords that people use for their instructables, so if they don't list all their materials as keywords, I'm not sure that you can search for them in any better way.

If you want to see only Instructables in the search results, then after you've started your search, you'll see a link that says "graphical search". Click that link and then from the drop down menu that will show up next to the search box, select "Instructables" and then click the search button again.

If you're not sure what I mean, you can use this link to get to the graphical search of Instructables. I started you off with PS2 as your search word.

What canucksgirl mentioned is by far the easiest and fastest way to find exactly what you're looking for.

If you're more into browsing, there's acouple of other ways you might go about searching.

One is to browse around by keyword. If you go to an instructable, let's use this one for an example. Scroll down and look on the right hand side of the instructable. You should see a section titled Info with some text in there that says, "Related: ps2, cleaning, grease, screwdriver." If you click on ps2, you'll be taken to every instructable that uses that keyword. If you look into the address bar, you should be able to figure out how to add additional keywords or change the ones up there into whatever you like.

The other way is to browse by channel. If you hover over the explore link up at the top, and then click on Technology, you'll be taken to the channel that houses all of the Tech instructables. If you look down the left hand side of the page, under Technology, you'll see a bunch of sub categories that can help define and limit the results of what you're looking for. For example, in the Play section there's a Playstation category with nothing buy instructables about Playstation related things. In Tech there's an Audio channel that might have some other stuff you'll enjoy.

Best of luck!
