What Multi-tool should I choose? Answered

I was wounder is anyone could help me pick a multi-tool ether from Leatherman or Gerber, I really don't like swiss army. If it could be around $30 have the some of the following: Knife, pliers or scissors, assorted screwdrivers, file, lanyard, bottle opener, awl and tweezers. It doesn't need to have all thoughts things but some. I am currently thinking about a leatherman Squirt P4 or S4. I have had the Gerber clutch but the pliers broke off and it was really worn out so I thought to get something new. Right now I have the Swiss+tech utili-key on my key chain right now and its basically a knife/saw, bottle opener with a tiny screwdriver on it. I know your going to say to win one but it would be easier just to buy one. Any opinions and review about what you have would be great. Also it needs to fit comfortably in my pocket, it will be going everywhere with me including school so the blade has to be less then 2.5 inches and can not lock.

Although pricey, my Leatherman Wave never leaves my side. The blades on the outside make it quick to open with one hand. The second selling point for me is that it has the built in scissors. I know the squirt S4 has scissors and tools on the outside, but it doesn't have the versatility of the Wave.

Did I mention it never leaves my side?

I recommend (great for the price) the Squirt P4 (this one has pliers) or the Squirt S4 (this one has scissors). I bought the one with the Squirt P4 and I love it. It is very small and has many different tools. Google it. Plus if you hurry now amazon has free shipping and you will save 15.00 on the actual item. Hope this helps ya.

I would go with Leatherman or SOG. Look at the features to determine which one will work best for you. These guys have just about every multitool out there. I bought a Leatherman Surge from them and am very happy with it. Click on multitool on the left side of the page.

I have a leatherman surge, and it's as reliable as a packhorse. It features:

  • Needlenose Pliers
  • Regular Pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Hard-Wire Cutters
  • Stranded-Wire Cutters
  • All Locking Implements
  • Electrical Crimper
  • Clip-Point Knife
  • Serrated Knife
  • Blade Exchanger
  • Scissors
  • Large Bit Driver
  • Small Bit Driver
  • 5/16" Screwdriver
  • Awl with Thread Loop
  • Ruler (9 inches/22cm)
  • Bottle/Can Opener
  • Wire Stripper
  • Lanyard Ring

Which is more or less all I ever need when stranded without tools ;).

Just make sure when buying yours you go for the real deal, not some cheap knockoff because it'll break on you at a critical moment (been there).

School? Wooh, if you brought one of those to my school, you'd go to Crossroads (juvenile detention, basically kid jail). It's sad it's come to this.

No we can take a knife to school we can't be brandishing it about no one will care, it just has to be under 2.5 inches and can't lock. the name "crossroads" sounds really positive to me.

Wow, where do you live? That's amazing! 'Round here, people get a couple days of OSS (out of School Suspension) for having a BB in their pocket. It's so stupid, but I guess it's sort of necessary.

I live in Arizona. The get OSS for having a BB that IS crazy. My friend is in a class where the first year they made Battlebots and the second: Trebuche, Potato cannon, rail guns, anything they want. As a joke I call it "terrorist camp"

I really doubt I could win one, thats why I want to buy one. Oh just to let everyone know, leatherman stuff is much cheaper on amazon then target or someplace.

BTW: where I live (yeah, in the USA) adults carrying a "pocket knife" in the city, can get arrested for brandishing a concealed deadly weapon. All my life I have carried a pocket knife and NEVER once thought of it as a weapon, but rather as a tool (a very handy tool I might add). Paraphrase: "Me thinks the world has gone crazy, except for me and thee, and sometimes I wonder about thee" sigh

I would kill to take my Leatherman to school! But my school is like yours Oreo, very very strict weapon rules. A small water gun is worthy of a 3 day suspension. For my Juice S2, I got an amazingly nice Leather case for it, for only 5 dollars. It has a very strong clip for carrying it on your side, and it is flashy looking too!
