the duality of RAM Answered

I feel like installing more RAM on my computer, for gaming and 3-d stuff. But I can't decide if I want 1024 mbs on a single stick, or two sticks with 512 mbs each.

Also, it would be nice two have 2 gbs instead of 1, but I've heard horror stories about instability. please discuss this as well.

Money isn't an issue (well, maybe.) I just want what will work best.
And please don't be afraid to go geek on me.

thanks as always.

why in the world would there be instability? most modern comuters can handle at least 2 gb of ram, to be safe look up your PC model and check compaitbility. If you still only want 1gb, get one stick, sot upgrading will be easier/cheaper :)

I've heard running 2 gb ram on a 32 bit processor is a bit more than it can handle. I unfortunately own a 32 bit processor.

.  If you are running WinXP or Vista, then you can reliably go up to three GB. Google is your friend. "WinXP 3GB" "Vista 3GB"
.  As far as one stick or two, don't worry about it; unless you are running cutting edge games, you won't notice any difference.
.  Personally, I'd go with 1x2GB (or 1x1GB if you are still afraid of instability). As junits15 mentioned, bigger chips are usually cheaper (per byte).

oh, well that's great! it is an older computer, but does run XP. If there's any more problems I'll let you know.
