Mono Bass in Stereo System

Hello Everyone I'm building a portable amp system running in stereo, but I only have one Bass speaker. Each Speaker (5, left/right tops, left/right mids and the bass) has its own amp. How can I connect the input on the bass speaker to the (stereo) input while keeping the channels separate? Thanks.

I've been considering equipping a killswitch to my bass guitar. Think it would be worth it? And could it simply be installed by hooking a button switch to the pickup wires?

New to bass?

Ok. I play guitar and I really want to learn bass. My mind thinks more (rythmically) like a bass. I want to learn bass badly. I am probably going to get the Fender Squier J Bass, as it sells new for only $180 at guitar center, and i really like fenders guitars. Anything I should know? I need all the help I can get. Thanks, freeza36 (soon to be bassist)

Nickname for my bass guitar

I have decided to name my bass guitar (like you hear all the famous musicians do), and i want some help brainstorming. Details about my bass: Really low action, Jay Turser imitation of a Music Man Stingray, 4 string, dark blue to the point of almost being black, wide neck, just generally awesome. Oh, and anyone else have a name for their instrument?

Subcontrabass Guitar - to build or not to build?

Hey all you musicians, and especially guitar players! I am currently planning the next version of my Prism Laser Guitar (vote for me if you like it!) and I need some opinions. The next version will hopefully sound very much like a real guitar, not a synthesizer. It will also be capable of playing chords among other tricks the first version couldn't do. However, due to physical and monetary restraints, it will have to be a 4-string bass guitar of some sort. That's fine with me - I love bass!So here's the idea: Unhindered by the physical limitations of a vibrating string, I am free to tune the bass as low as I want. I'm thinking of giving it a C#, F#, B, E tuning, with a bottom note of 17.5Hz. That's lower than pretty much any bass you can get, opening up a whole playground of super bass notes to drive neighbours up the wall. ;)Is that something people would be interested in? Or should I stick to a standard bass tuning range?

Help!

The bassist of my band quit, and now my I have to be the bassist and vocalist at the same time. I'm pretty good at playing the bass, but I can't seem to stretch my fingers out that long.... Anybody have any idea on how to increase finger-stretching capabilities? Any advice would be appreciated.... Oh and I can't sing properly if I'm playing an instrument, so any advice on how to sing while playing a guitar/bass would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

New World Record Largemouth

If you're into fishing you might find this report of a new world record breaking large mouth bass from Japan weighing 22 Lbs 5oz. This would beat the long standing, and controversial record of George Perry which has stood for 77 years by one ounce. But the record keepers require that the record be broken by 2 ounces. So Close.

Star Wars intro by Saul Bass

What if one movie intro was reimagined in the style of another artist? In this case it's the style of the late great Saul Bass who did many amazing title sequences like Vertigo or The Man with the Golden Arm.This is cooler than Episodes I, II, and III combined.via Drawn! And then there's the deluxe remix version as well.

Problems when recording a bass guitar

Hi, I have experienced some difficulties trying to record my bass with my computer. I get a okay result at first, but when after a while the sound gets more and more weak. It gets weaker, but still gives some peaks where the sound is stronger. Happens with every mic I've tried, even with straight input. Could it be the soundcard? Trying to upload a soundsample.

Broken bass amplifier

Hey, I have this 10w bass amplifier for home practice. Problem is that it gives no sound through the speaker, but it works fine through the headphone output. I have Checked the fuse, which was ok. I have also connected other speakers to the amplifier to see if it is the speaker itself that is broken, it seems like it is not. Seems like quite a curious problem, but can it be fixed? It sure would be nice to play without headphones again.

Custom Bass

If you could have a custom bass (or have one) what would it be like? If i had one, it would have the cutaway style of a Music man bongo, with tribunal flame bridge. the end of the body would have a sort of curved flying v style to it. The finish would be a sort of metallic blue and black flame. KIllswitch, and a couple of built in effects, couple gaine and tone knobs. 5 string, with the usual music man head. Maybe a bit different though, all thats just off the top of my head.

Soundproofing?

How could I sound proof my room? Particularly against the "bass" end of the spectrum? I know you can use foam panels that are cheap enough but would they also help absorb the bass too? I'm getting tired of my parents yelling at me whenever I play music. I don't nessesarily play it loud, but with my subwoofer on, it goes low enough to rattle through the whole house even at low levels. I'd like to make this a competition, the best idea I will pick out and do to my room, I may even think of a prize.

Self Playing Guitar/bass/BAND

Http://www.ragtimewest.com/ I am thinking of doing one for a guitar, and after i have success with the guitar then one for a bass. and so on until i have a band. i would just need a guitar(which i have) and 144 push servos for the frets on the guitar(likely pneumatic or magnetic), 7 servos for strumming(1 per string then 1 to strum all the strings) 6 winders to go to the headstock for different tunings, 1 to flip the lead & rythm switch, enough servos for the volume and tone knobs(will vary depending on what guitar i use). I could then hook up the servos to a processor that will scan sheet music(likely a scanner optical) or listen to a program that will activate the servos. This is my new cool project. any advice is appriciated.

help needed on LED music box

I want to build one like https://www.instructables.com/id/Music-LED-Light-Box/ , but with some LED only blink to bass (low range sounds), some to mid range, and some to only high range. Take this as an example: https://www.instructables.com/id/Music-Flashing-LED-Lights-how-to/ except I still like the idea of running through a mini jack. I've done a lof reading and many people have suggested using inductors as low-pass filters. New to electrical things, I am really unsure what to do. My design in mind is with 24 LEDs, 12 blink to bass, 8 blink to mid range, and 4 blink to high range. I'm planning to use a 12v DC charger with LEDs specs of 30mA forward current, 3.5V forward voltage. I understand having a VR will make the LEDs more consistent. Can someone possibly draw me a schematic with the right resistors and inductors? help would be greatly appreciated.

Electric Bass

Hello, I have an electric bass .. I broke the two wires that is connected to the battery connector a couple of months ago.. I had it professionally soldered. All of a sudden, today, it started to static every time I played a string.  I switched amps to make sure isn't wasn't any of amps. But it started to static on every one.. Could it be that the battery is going dead??? Please help!!!!! I have a gig this weekend!!

True collaboration

I had a crazy idea - a few people will each build a component of an electric bass guitar from scratch, and post an instructable of it. Then, once they have built it, they will send it to instructables hq, where an instructables team member will assemble it. These components are: 1. body - I am volunteering to construct a body out of plastic 2. bass pickups + electronics 3. Neck 4. steinberger style tuning system

Home recording and playback studio

So ive played guitar/bass in the past but have recently switched to drums the past year. I would like to put together a recording system that would allow me to not only record guitar/bass onto my computer but also allow me to output those recordings to their respective amps simultaneously for playback. I have a buddy that plays guitar so would like to jam out with a bass line as well or when he's not around I can jam out to both. Any ideas of equipment /software that might be needed ?

We need a music contest!!!

I think that we need some kind of contest involving music! Instructables has had contests for photography, robotics, baking, biking, yo-yoing, and many others... so why hasn't there been one about music? There are many aspiring musicians here of Instructables and I think that we need our time to shine. That's my two cents.

Clip light an Bass amp, what exactly does that do?

Recently i purchased a bass amp (240W on a 15 inch speaker, got it for $180) Now when i crank up both the gain and volume to about 7 or 8 on the amp and one volume knob all the way and the other volume knob about a quarter of the way on my bass, and start playing slap, a red (doesn't usually indicate something good) LED next to the gain knob illuminates. so i turn it back down. Cause its either telling me "HEY! Hey you, yes you! this is going to kill me!" or its just telling me that its protecting it. So anyone know what it really does?

Big Mouth Billy Bass Mod?

hey guys i just found an unused "Big Mouth Billy Bass" singing fish thing in my attic and i was just wondering if anyone has/knows how to mod it to possibly play a pre-recorded message, possibly off an mp3 player? i want to make like a security device out of it, utilizing its motion-sensitive singing i figured someone out there might know how to hack it to play something other than the horribly obnoxious music it comes programmed with. thanks in advance!

Wanted: Electric Guitar Wiring Instructable

I was wondering if anyone out there would like to make an instructable devoted to the wiring in a guitar (or bass)? Sure there are a few guitar instructables that have a wiring step, but there's not much more then a schematic. Does anyone out there have the time/skills to make one showing, for example, what difference do different valued capacitors make, or which pot value should be used for what effect? Thanks for reading, and even more thanks in advance for anyone who makes it.

Current Problems with speakers...

Hey guys, I've uploaded some pictures of my problem. What I have here is an attempt to add bass to my speakers - I'm a newb, so this isn't going so well. The music is comeing from an iDock, and is being routed in parallel to a set of computer speakers. The right speaker has volume & tone knob, the left is simply plugged into the right. I unplugged the left speaker, took the circuitry out, and connected its input & output to a larger bass speaker - quickly was I suprised with a smoking capacitor (lol how healthy!) so... what should I do, simply add a resistor? Edit: Note the resistor (brown red red = 12k? or 1.2k?) is only in series with the LED and is not affecting the bass speaker. I am just wondering how a bass speaker could draw MORE amperage than the small speaker without any circuitry?

Has anyone done this?!?

If you don't have it set up like this already, then try it. If you have a smallish room, try putting your subwoofer in the corner. In my room the bass lights up like the 4th of july compared to when the box is sitting in the middle of my room. I'm listening to it right now and it just sounds wicked. You the bass more than you hear the subwoofer itself moving and groaning at the low notes.

I need help with Guitar Hero World Tour!!!!

Today I got Rb2 and GH4 For Xmas. I heard the rockband drums work with gh4. So, today I tried GH4. The orange note was still there. If you don't get it, then what I am trying to say is that GH4 Drums have 6 different notes: Red,Yellow,Green,Blue,Orange, and Purple (Bass). Rockband has 4: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange (Bass). Usually when you play the RB drums on Gh, you see the original 4 colors (You cant see bass till you hit it). But I saw 5. I couldn't hit the extra note because I didn't have an orange pad... PLEASE HELP
