leaving ;(

Sadly since i sold my knex (about a year ago now) i honestly dont know what there is to make so im leaving instructables. i havent been here in so long i struggled to find out how to make this forum thread. and now that i am addicted to youtube and minecraft i cant see myself ever making another instructable. so thats why im leaving. but on the brighter side im starting a new youtube series but it has nothing to do with building or anything that you would find on here. anyways its been fun sharing my creations with everyone and i had a good time soooooo............ i guess its goodbye...                                                                          -slithien-                                                                               RIP                                                          11/08/2006  to  29/05/2012

Leaving K'nex

Hi guys, just wanted to let you know that I don't think I'll be on ibles anymore, there are just more important things in my life than K'nex.  Sorry if this looks like i'm just trying to get publicity too, I'm not.  And if you think I'm fake, then I must be the best faker in the world. PS.  If you're interested in buying some of my K'nex or all of it, please let me know.  I have about 15 pounds, and if anyone is interested in buying I might do a full piece count.

Leaving Instructables

Hey everyone, I have built many projects and gained many followers. After building many projects out of knex, I think i may be coming to the end of my building with knex. I don't want this to end but whenever I try to build nothing ever seems to work. Well i hope to have at least 3 more instructables up, maybe less or more. I just don't have the inspiration to build anymore and I hate to stop building. What do you think i should do? -KnexFreak360

I'm leaving!

I'll be gone from this Sunday to the next, away from all civilization and technology (at least it feels that way) in the small town of Salina, Kansas, home of wheat. I'm leaving to celebrate my grandpa's 100th birthday! I will have no access to computers, so don't expect anything coming from me during that time (not that you expected anything anyway....) I'm bringing my camera and tripod, as I did last year. Does anyone have any cool photographic ideas or other things I can do out in a wheat farm or on an airplane? Any iBle ideas? Thanks, and bye, Bran.

I'm leaving, and this time for real.

But only for a week. Gotcha! We're off on holiday tomorrow (Saturday 24th, UK calender) for a week in Whitby - fossils on the beaches, jet in the shops, Dracula's landfall, but no internet at all.Be good, don't break anything, and if the Instructables TV show gets off the ground in the next seven days, remember that I called dibs on the presenter slot. There's not a lot of need or point in replying to this thread (since I'm not going to be reading it until I'm back), I'm really just letting you know so nobody panics...where's Kiteman? It's all gone quiet, the post rate is down, our spelling is falling apart, the woowoo brigade are taking over...

I have to leave the community. It's been fun and interesting. Nice hanging out with you all!Bye.

To be plain, I just can't be a part of a site that promotes pornography, being defined "Pornography is any material depicting or describing the human body or sexual conduct in a way that arouses sexual feelings. It is distributed through many media, including magazines, books, television, movies, music, and the Internet." Many of you probably won't understand my reasoning, few understand that aren't Mormon (and even a few that are Mormon don't understand). But I have to. I can't express how crushing this is to me. I really love this site. It's been just great learning and chatting here. It's been fun sharing my little projects, too. Bye.

Instructables member 'Nepheron' has left the site

Member 'Nepheron' has decided to withdraw from the community, unexpectedly. He deleted most of his instructables and removed information from the rest, rendering them useless. The only one left is Sugru metal casting. It mentions on his profile that he no longer wishes to participate in the community... Has anyone talked with him or have information on why he left?

Just about done with this site

This site has jumped the shark.  It used to be a good place to find DIY projects of all kinds for all skill levels.  Over the past few years, it has changed in the following ways. - The majority of new instructables on the site involve elite technology - 3D printers, laser cutters, etc - that are too expensive or require a membership to Techshop or similar to have access to them.  In other words, they are mildly interesting to see what's possible, but of no use to the average person. - Many instructables are just implementations of things that can be commonly found on Pinterest and are being passed off as original ideas. - Drug content has started showing up as instructables.  While I understand that some states have legalized cannabis, not all have, and I don't want my family to be exposed to it. - "Collections" may be useful in some cases to pull together instructables on a common theme, such as photography or boat building, but they are overused so much that they clog up everything else on the site.  Again, it's an example of people posting without creating any new content. - I'm a non-paying member of the site and the ads and other "recommended links" have started taking over everywhere. For years I've been following the site and checking the recent instructables posts almost daily to see what's new.  The site continues to meet other's needs, and that's what's important, but I'm sorry to say that it's no longer worth my time.

LEAVING IBLES-SELLING KNEX

I'm not kidding, I am leaving ibles, but I probably won't sell my knex. I'll hang around for 3 days, then that will be all for me. Tempted to leave instructables just because of the new layouts

I may have only been here for 2 years but this site is changing a bit too much for my tastes. In those 2 years most of the major changes have been pretty recent. Why they haven't implemented legacy views yet baffles me. Or allowing us to customize our own personal layout. By personal layout I mean that each person can customize how the site looks to HIM OR HER. If they implemented that I would be willing to put up with the bugs and glitches it would cause just for the fact that it pleases my eye. What they seem to be doing is copying facebook's style. This absolutely sickens me. I HATE facebook and the only reason I got it was to see just how bad it is. The layout for facebook form over function. It is needlessly over complicated  I am a function over form guy. I bet most of the people here are function over form too.  Don't be a facebook. If you do I will take my 10$ worth of advertising else where. Maybe if a couple thousand leave you will get it.

So I need to take a break from instructables, that means I will be inactive for a while, maybe about a week or two.. I will begin being inactive when it passes 12:00 AM in San Fransisco. So, bye to everyone who likes me... ;-(UPDATE:I am back!

So long cruel world!

Well I wasn't that active in making guns, but I think I should move on to bigger things. I will still lurk around instructables, however you wont see me doing knex guns unless I have an ingenious new idea that I'm sure I can portray correctly. I will probably be making instructables pertaining to: Art, Guitar, Video games, and other things, that is all goodbye and goodnight! P.S: 5th pic is an experimental curved mag I was developing around a year ago to go on my mp7, anyone is welcome to use it as long as they give me proper credit and link me to the instructable/slideshow.

Difficulty leaving comments and responses to comments

Lately it has become increasingly more difficult to respond to someone's comment on one of my Instructables. It has also become more difficult to leave a comment on someone else's Instructable. I click on the appropriate button ("Comment," "Reply"), but there is no response. Sometimes I can comment or respond during some very strange hour of the night when Internet traffic is very low. I have checked this on different computers, but the same problem persists.  Today I also noticed the yellow text boxes have disappeared from one of my earlier Instructables. If I go to "Edit" I can see ghost images of the yellow text boxes, but cannot read or edit them. For some time I have not been able to edit or add text boxes in the Edit mode, only when I am viewing steps of the Instructable.  Are transitions underway on the Instructables page that make these temporary problems? Also, the words "Instructable" and "Instructables" always show up as misspelled. It seems strange the site name is identified by the spell checker as a misspelling.

Penolopy Bulnick Leaving Instructables Staff

That's right.  It is time for Penolopy Bulnick to move on.  Who is this Penolopy Bulnick fella? Well, even if you don't know who I am, I have been around for the past few years, lurking in the shadows.  I chit chat with all of you through comments, I help those of you who have trouble posting (even if you don't want the help), I release your awesome projects when they get caught in the filters, I post to our Tumblr, Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest pages, I create the newsletter you get 3 times a week, I help assemble and edit the print books we have done through Skyhorse Publishing, and I create crazy sugary projects in my spare time :) What are you going to do now?  Do you think you could actually get another job as awesome as Instructables? No :)  Nothing can replace the awesomeness that is Instructables and its community, but I'm sure going to try.  I don't have any finalized plans yet, but you may yet still see me around! I just wanted to let everyone know that even though I want to help you on the site forever, I will not be able to from now on :( I love you all. Goodbye :)  (after Friday, I'm still around till Friday) (I copied Scoochmaroo's use of a bye bye gif)

Leaving China and Taking a Part With Me.

My time was short, it seems my time is always short. Groggily I was pulled from bed the day after the Maker Faire. Spending the night at Eric's place was so wonderful, it was my first nights sleep since leaving America a few days earlier. We loaded Eric Pans car with gear and headed out to pick up a 3D printer. 3D printing technology is booming in the states, nearly every hackerspace in America has a Makerbot and design firms have Shapeways to turn to to get their rapid prototyping. But elsewhere in the world these things are still fresh! Sharing tools is something I love to do because you never know where people's creativity will take them. You never can know all the problems in the world, but all the people know all their problems! One of my missions then is to share low cost and open technologies to people I think can make awesome use of them! The night before after the Shenzhen Maker Faire all the Makers were invited to a gathering. Beer, frogs on skewers and peanuts were all provided free of charge. We ate, drank, wheeled and dealed. Wiess Tech is a filament company in Shenzhen and they have started noticing that more and more of their customers were 3D printers. Especially DIY 3D printers. So they've begun to make Makerbot replicas with some modifications. And there I was - I wanted a 3D printer to bring with me to Beirut and they wanted… Well, I wasn't sure. The language barrier between us was strong. Somehow Eric and I convinced them that it would be a good idea to give me a machine, and perhaps I'd pay them back when I got to the states. At this point I was at $244 dollars and dropping and I couldn't even afford the incredible hackerspace price the company was offering of $500 dollars! They agreed, and that's how I found myself rushing off to their head quarters the next morning before catching my ship. But first. We must go to Seeed Studio to buy a cup of coffee from the robotic tweeting (QQ) coffee machine in their break room. Hahaha! We headed out to Wiess Tech and on the way there we drive by construction zone after construction zone. Aparently Shenzhen didn't exist 30 years ago, and now you can still see the signs of a rapid expansion. Everything here is growing at an incredible pace, and apparently even maker culture. We arrive at Wiess HQ, which is housed in a 30 story complex decked out with multiple confusing entrances, cafeterias and dual elevators for the odd and even numbered floors. After spending a bit of time wondering how to get to floor 22 and circling the building, we found ourselves face to face with a small crew of about 8people. A few people managing papers, a secretary, some of the marketing team, and one guy sitting at a table putting together Wiess Tech versions of the thingimatic. After speaking with them we find that they also sell a machines based around the Reprap project, one of the earliest open 3D printing projects and have in the works a few models of their own designs. I'm excited to see how Weiss Tech bootstraps itself off of open sourced designs and starts producing their own versions! I hope to see a whole new generation of better, faster and cheaper machines that stay open! Go Weiss Tech! Heading out to take a 3D panorama from their deck Eric rushes and tells me that my ship leaves in 20 mins and that the time is now. After an awkward moment or two talking about paypal and me giving them advice on staying open we undo all their packing (too bulky) throw the machine into my luggage and run. In the car Eric and I discuss the future of Chinese makers. It really seems this is just the start of something much larger. It's an exciting time, his company is building great products, more Chinese companies are looking at open source technologies and more people are calling themselves makers. Perhaps it's through Maker culture China will be able to become more than the King of manufacturing, but also participate in producing quality designs and solving serious problems. Leaving China, the baggage handlers on the ferry were rough handling Adriana, my 3D printer, and it really cut deep. But as I watched Shenzhen bay slowly recede, I knew the next time i came back, again, everything would again be different. This is the pace of China and yet it seems softened by the fog falling over the rolling green hills. +Bilal Ghalib

Reducing Current While Leaving Voltage the Same

Hey, I have a power source that puts out 5V at about 2A. I need to reduce the current to 1A while maintaining 5V. How would I go about doing this? I thought about a resistor, but since the voltage drop is 0, how would I calculate what value I would need?EDIT: I was also looking at regulators, like this one. It says it limits current to 1A, but I'm not sure if it would be useful for what I need...http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name;=MCP1826-5002E/AT-ND

Do some spiders leave a scent trail ? Answered

I didn't think so but a colleague told me of his recent experience; He was in the living room watching TV and a huge spider came in along the floor. He is scared of spiders and sat there transfixed. He said it was the biggest spider that  he had ever seen.  He and his partner squashed it, ( stupid humans), and threw it in the bin. The next day he was in the same place and a big, (but not as big ), spider came along and did the exact same route through the room. He said that it was a very unusual route to take but he knew that it was identical because he had studied both of them with absolute fear-based attention. So apart from making him feel guilty about killing the first one he wondered if spiders leave a scent. I can't find any answer on google so I'm asking anyone who may have knowledge of spiders? Thank you. I can't seem to find a suitable channel so I've chosen camping in the hope that some outdoor type will know.

What animal eats the body and leaves the head and feet? Answered

This morning there was the remains of a rat in my yard, The head, gallbladder, and 3 feet were in a little pile and the body had apparently been eaten.  Anyone know what animal does this?  I live in Fort Worth, Texas and we have rats, crows, possums, raccoons, coyotes, domestic cats, snakes, and mink in our area.  I know of several predators that will eat the heads and leave the bodies, but this one has me stumped.

Generate Power from water leaving your home

It occurs to me that a lot of power is supplied to pump water into my home -- into my showers, dishwasher, sinks, toilets, etc. And then, as that water plummets from the second story bathroom back into the ground, it builds up a lot of power due to gravity -- and it just goes whooshing away. So let's develop some sort of mechanism that will harvest the energy of that moving water as it leaves our homes. The initial thought is turbines or wheels, sure, but you have to remember the stuff that is leaving the house in that water: hair, food scraps, and all your bathroom functions. So we need to either develop a system that cannot be jammed, filter & divert the water before it reaches our device, or develop a system that harvests the energy without interfering with the flow.

Is it a bad idea to leave a capo on a guitar for a long time?

I have an acoustic guitar that's not exactly valuable, but it's fairly old and has a lot of sentimental value; lately I've been playing a lot of songs that require a capo, so much that I've just left it on for days at a time? will this have any negative effect on the guitar? I realize strings are replaceable, but I don;t want to waste them... (also, it's not the clamp style capo, it's a strap that comes around and tightens down. I think it's an older style.)

What causes Heartleaf Philodendron leaves to not separate from their shoots?

I have several small Heartleaf Philodendrons that have been growing for a couple of years.  For the most part, they seem healthy, but oftentimes new leaves have difficulty fully unfolding from the little shoots they grow from.  The stay stuck in the outer protective leaf and don't open up, and either dry out and die or form stunted, misshapen leaves when they finally pull themselves free.  You can see this in the picture I've uploaded, which shows a stunted leaf and a leaf that has not managed to unfold itself from the shoot it grew in. Does anyone know what might cause this problem?  I admit that I don't water them as regularly as I should, but it's not all the tendrils that do this.

I want to deposit metallic copper into the wood where it has soaked in and remove the chlorides altogether. Bearing in mind that i don't want much in the way of another solution, how could it be done? Could I drop in some lead to precipitate out the chloride ions or is there something else that would steal the chloride ions from copper that wouldn't be too hard for a hobbiest to obtain?
