This is a total rip off of the OG fake church: Universal Life Church

Personally i'm against all religious beliefs including atheism.

Er... you do know that atheism is an absence of religious belief, don't you?

("Atheism is a religion the way that not collecting stamps is a hobby")

A-theism isn't a religious belief, it's a philosophical-position.

L

"Church" and "atheist" are antonyms. If you genuinely wanted to officiate at weddings etc whilst being atheist, you would become a properly-licensed registrar (or the legally-equivalent civil official recognised by the government of your choice).

The problem with that is some places have legislation in place that states that only a judge or religous figure may perfom weddings, and other similar events. All the Church of Atheism is is a method to get around this limitation and allow atheist ministersto perform weddings without spending years working for the government.

This is ironic.

the people are atheists, but they call themselves a church!

LOL!

A church is just a group of people with the same beliefs.

. Nearly every definition of "church" that I find includes religion; usually Christian. Eg: # one of the groups of Christians who have their own beliefs and forms of worship # a place for public (especially Christian) worship... # church service: a service conducted in a house of worship... - wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn # The word church is frequently used to describe a building used for prayer, worship, ... specifically to those for Christian worship. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church (building)

I would assume that they are using the word church to gain some sort of financial benefits, like all the televangelists that don't have to pay tax because they're a church, even when the cheques are made payable to them personally.

The Greek word translated "church" in the bible is "ecclesia" (don't know for sure how to spell it in English). It specifically means "called out", though the biblical context pretty much always dictates it to be a group capable of assembly. To call a group of organized atheists a "church" is pretty lame. Is a group of organized doctors a "coven"?

Is a group of organized doctors a "coven"?

Which (witch) doctors? LOL

What about a group of dis-organized (witch)doctors?

Well, they are pretty much like the "group" of people with Anthropophobia, The meetings were always REALLY small :-) Since a group of dis-organized (witch)doctors would not be "organized" in any way, they all would have different times they would attend meeting...

Wow, between the anthropophobia and the random disorganized meeting schedule, they might never run into eachother at all. At least they'd avoid a Dr.s Coven schizm that way! I imagine the Atheist Church will have a schizm soon. The Disbelievers vs. The Non-Believers!

I imagine the Atheist Church will have a schizm soon. The Disbelievers vs. The Non-Believers!

Ah, but only those that sincerely believe they do not believe in anything. ;-)

You're right. THe casual un-believers are not nearly as devoted in their lack of beleif. How can they even call themselves Atheists?! Why, they're no better than those wishy-washy Agnostics!

It wouldn't bother me if they taxed the churches (Christian and other). I'd rather just see the televangelists de-televised though!

Kite, On a serious note, I have ALWAYS been offended to the core by 98% of televangelists (shameless, hypocritical, blood-sucking leeches!). If I thought they genuinely represented christianity, I'd convert to something else.

Like the Christian Shopping Network... 400$ For a "blessed" Virgin Mary paper weight....

I just posted it because I thought it was rather funny.

Ah, that's OK, then - some sort of humorous or sarcastic comment in the OP would have helped though, otherwise this looks like you're promoting the site!

I was tired when I made the post...I had not slept in 43 or so hours before I posted it. I couldn't think of anything....

Wow. That's probably the.... Wow! (loss for words) Kiteman, I understand the context, but you've really given me something to think about.

I ought to point out that I am being careful with my use of the word believe - Because so many Creationists have tried to claim that science is my religion, because I believe what other scientists tell me, I have decided to be pedantic in such discussions. To me, "belief" is "acceptance without evidence". For instance:

I do not believe in the big bang. I trust that it occurred because there is physical evidence that has been independently checked by numerous scientists, some of whom had a vested interest in proving it wrong.

However, if a child is upset, and tells me another child called her something nasty, I may choose to believe what she says, based on prior knowledge of the children involved. The prior knowledge is not evidence, so I won't go as far as trust, but it gives me a starting point to deal with the situation.

ur right, the church of athiesm is it self one massive hypocrite.

What, that they don't believe in anything....at least, they don't believe they believe in anything? :-)

yes, something along those lines

I wonder if there is and age limit???

Probably not, but I do believe you need to be an adult to legally marry someone.

This is hilarious...
