Screw ends sticking out the opposite side of a door panel Answered

The previous owner of my house drilled screws through a door to hold one of the door panels in place. The screws are sticking out the other side leaving the  sharp ends exposed.  What would be the best way to fix these sharp ends? Could I just use a bolt cutter and cut them off?

Remove the screws, one at a time and either cut the ends off with a pair of heavy duty wire cutters like lineman's pliers or bolt cutters. You can also use a file and file the tip off or if you have a grinder of some sort grind them down. Then screw them back in place. But you have to remove them to work on them. Leaving them in place to shorten them will mark up the wood. Since the threads are already cut in the wood I would not try to replace them, just shorten them a little.

Depending on how much wood you have to play with you could replace the screws with shorter ones then fill and smooth the holes. Otherwise I'd just grind them off using an angle grinder or a rotary (Dremel) tool, then fill and smooth.

+1 the screws are too long - solution use shorter screws & fill the holes!
