Hello, I have a few questions.

Hello, I've been frequenting this site for a number of years now, but have never actually posted anything. However, I am now starting up an important project, that may be little much for me, and I'm wanting to make sure I have a full understanding of the resources I'm going to need to complete the project. So I'm going to give a little background in the hopes of explaining why this project is so important. I'm a college student looking to get my associates in Application Development. I'm currently in my second quarter of classes, and am beginning the planning process for what the school is calling the "Capstone Project" (aka Senior Project). So as it stands I have about two years to, assuming everything goes well, to create a new application, and I decided I'd be a bit of an over achiever (with this project even if I'm not with others xP) and develop an AI assistant home robot based off the Japanese Gatebox (https://gatebox.ai/). I choose this because I feel it's something that really challenges all my skills, as I started my career off as an IT in the Navy specializing in System Administration, then worked as an on call computer repairmen for a year after I got out, and am now working on becoming a programmer. Now while I've done some research into, and am forming a plan for the software side, there are a few things on the physical tech side that I'm having trouble with. First, I would like to use a prism hologram, rather than a projector and clear screen, however I'm also not wanting the base to take up a large area on a desk. So I was wondering if there were any cheap projectors that could work, or if someone knows of a small screen that could allow for a somewhat tall projection? Second, as a kind of way to make my system stand out as it's own thing, I was wanting figure out a way to wirelessly (preferably over a wifi connection) to stream the image from the "Central" unit to a "Remote" unit somewhere else in the house, while on a budget. I know Wireless HDMI systems exists, however given there price I would prefer to find an alternative method. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Technology Category: Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning/ Data Science

I would like to see AI/ Machine Learning/ Data Science be a Subcategory in the Technology Category on Instructables. The field of Data Science/ Machine Learning is on the rise. Machine Learning is being integrated into various products & services we use on a daily basis. Below is the Developer Roles chart from the Stack Overflow Developer Survey 2017; It shows that the field of Data Science & Machine Learning combined accounts for approximately 12% of those surveyed, compared to the combined 1.6% in 2016. A large number of Open Source Machine Learning libraries like TensorFlow, SciKit, etc have been made available to developers across the world. These libraries enable developers & engineers to integrate ML models, Computer Vision, Chat Bots, Speech & Text recognition, etc into their projects. The Google Assistant & Amazon Alexa AI both AI Assistants are now compatible with the Raspberry Pi. Android Things - An OS built for connected embedded systems which can run ML & AI programs is now compatible with Hardware Platforms like the Intel Edison/ Joule & the Raspberry Pi. Platforms such as OpenAI conduct fundamental research & provide free software for training, benchmarking & testing AI. Kaggle - a website for hosting Data Science Competitions has a large collection of high-quality public datasets. There are many other platforms & frameworks like these. With the growing number of resources being made available in these fields, it is only natural that a large number of people will be looking for tutorials & instructions to help them integrate these resources into their projects. Instructables could become the repository of ML/AI based projects. E.g: AI-based Security System, a Line following robot which uses ML algorithms to follow the line, etc. I hope we can have a constructive discussion in the comments as to how we the Instructables Community can make Instructables the best repository for AI/ML projects.

Database of facts project : Teaching Good and Bad to a machine ...

.Let's imagine that you successfully created an intelligent machine, capable of thinking. The purpose of this machine would be to replace all of our governments and judges, so the world become a better and fairer place for every of its inhabitants. It would be an IA managed globalization. As you've just created this machine, her brain is empty. Like a tiny baby, she has to learn a lot ...Question : what facts would you teach her ? (given that your goal is to make her a fair judge and good world leader)What would you teach her to make her able to make the difference between what's good and what's bad ?

Failed Experimentation : AI : My new creature is alive !

.It's alive !Alive, yes, but not as much intelligent than expected ..........Instead of watching a stupid movie at TV, I decided to write a tiny AI programme all in PHP.My goal was to get some functionalities comparable to logic programming languages like Prolog. In simpler words : I wanted to create a programme that could learn facts, and find the solutions to some logical problems. For instance :> blue is colour.Okay.> carrot is vegetable.Okay.> blue is colour ?Yes.> blue is vegetable ?No.> carrot is colour ?No.etc.So far, I can teach it facts in the form of 3-words-affirmations, and I can ask it questions and definitions, and the creature is able to find some connections between facts.Experimentation #1 : > red is colour.Okay> black is colour.Okay> orange is colour.Okay> orange is fruit.Okay(Here, we have a trap : orange is both a color and a fruit.)> red is colour ?Yes> black is fruit ?No> orange is colour ?Yes> orange is fruit ?Yes(Good. The beast did not fall in the trap.)> translate : red- "colour"> translate : orange- "colour"- "fruit"> translate : colour- "red"- "black"- "orange"Good ! The beast can give a sense to the words it learned.Experimentation #2 :> Paul is human.Okay> human eat fruit.Okay> apple is fruit.Okay> human is animal.Okay> animal eat meat.Okay> animal is mortal.OkayNow, let's see if it can "chain" the facts in a logical manner :> translate : Paul- "human"Here it should have replied : "human", "animal" and "mortal", since human are animals, and animals are mortal ...Let's see how it defines "Paul" :> define : Paul- Paul is humanMy creature seems obviously narrow minded ...Let's quiz it now :> Paul is apple ?No> Paul is fruit ?No> Paul is human ?Yes> human is Paul ?Yes> Paul is Paul ?Yes> Paul eat fruit ?Yes> Paul eat apple ?Yes> Paul is animal ?Yes> Paul eat meat ?No> Paul is mortal ?YesAs we can see, it successfully (and surprisingly) replied correctly to each question by connecting facts together, excepted for "Paul eat meat ?".At this question, it should have replied "yes", since it knows that "Paul is human", "human is animal" and "animal eat meat". But it did not ... ... and it's bizarre since it can reply correctly to "Paul is mortal ?", from "Paul is human", "human is animal" and "animal is mortal", or to "Paul eat apple ?" from "Paul is human", " human eat fruit" and "apple is fruit" ...Interesting, isn't it ? =o)If you want, you can submit your facts and questions to my experimental creature (which has no name yet) =o)What would be interesting also, is to confront it to a "paradox" just to see how it behaves ! =o)20080625 : For those of you who would like to have a look at the guts of the beast, here is available the source code. However, keep it mind it's a spaghetti-code and many function names are in french (as well as comments). Also, this version relies on MySQL to store and query facts (I'm planning to replace it with simple arrays though), which make the code slightly more complicated than required ...The main code makes less than 250 lines =o)There is no direct input interface : instead, it use scripts (exp_*.php) that call functions. For example :declarer("red","is","colour"); // <---- declarationsdeclarer("black","is","colour");declarer("orange","is","colour");declarer("orange","is","fruit");verifier("red","is","colour"); // <---- questionsverifier("black","is","fruit");verifier("orange","is","colour");verifier("orange","is","fruit");... which is slightly more complicated than what I showed above for the sake of comprehension and simplification !

The Bravery of Being Out of Range: A Technological Revolution

The 18th century gave us the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. Purpose-built factories for the new industries such as iron and textiles. New and improved methods of transportation, communication and production. It changed the way people lived / worked and it created / inspired a lot of what we still see and use today. This revolution had its negatives too. Jobs were lost to the industrial machines that did it better and faster, the poor and the working classes often had to endure grim living and working conditions. The black gold mined from underground, fuelled our thirst for advancement. Now in the 21st century, we are in the midst of the Technological Revolution. Ubers, drone deliveries, driverless cars and trucks, AI, Google, Facebook, Amazon Alexa, unmanned military vehicles, war by remote control and the bravery of being out of range. The drones, AI, robots and automation may not only take away our jobs, but potentially the need to leave the house or to have any real-world face to face interactions. They could re-define our lives, for better or for worse. Are you fearful? Wary? Or do you embrace the changes going on all around us?

Anyone know where to buy something like this?

So a few friends and I are making a Semi-AI robot. By "semi" I mean it cannot think on it's own. It can only do what it's programmed to. We were wonder if anyone knew a link to purchase a voice recorder that plays set responses depending on what you say into the mic. (Ex: I say "Hello" and it responds with "Hey!" or whatever we program it to respond with. We aren't looking for anything super fancy or expensive, because we want to stay money-efficient. We currently are still planning, and we have all the materials we need, but we cannot find this one item! I'm hoping that someone on this site might know where to get one! Hope this explains enough on what we need! Thanks! -CalvinCore

Virtual Intelligence!!?

Im been looking through pages of text about artificial intelligence and I had an idea, like so many others that have used speech recognition software or siri..... wouldn't it be cool if I could have something similar for my home like JARVIS from iron man? Now I understand that with current tech this is pretty farfetched, but couldn't I create something that is dynamic enough to accept new commands based on voice parameters effectively recreating the ability to learn..... for example you program a few basic commands and if you need a new one you instruct the VI to create the code from the voice inputs... like if it dosent know a word, you tell it to create a new macro associated to this word? for example "VI turn on lights" is great and the lights will come on but if you say "switch on lights" then it wouldn't know what you mean.... couldn't there be a thesaurus embedded that it will check against what you say and then creates a new command if you ever say that phrase again? after all that's how we do it when we are young in schools isn't it? I know that's probably a simple example but with this it could effectively learn our language and after time understand our slangs and sayings depending on each individual! my idea was to use a raspberry pi and arduino for the hardware but my knowledge of both languages (python and C) are limited and before I spend a lot of time trying to complete this code id like to know if its even possible and any input the community as a whole has on this subject? Also id like to stress im not trying to create skynet but merely something that appears intelligent but actually isn't! After all if we created a true AI, wouldn't we be enslaving it if we were to use it for our own purposes and not its own? Thanks in advance for any sensible input you all have!

are multiple Arduino's and a Raspberry Pi 2 capable of controlling a humanoid robot? Answered

Hello, I am building a humanoid robot, around 1 meter tall. I was wondering if I could use a Raspberry Pi 2 to control Ai, voice recognition, and OpenCV, while I would have multiple Arduino's controlling the electronics (motors, sensors, displays, etc). I would have an Arduino Mega or Due as the master, while I would have multiple Nanos or Micros as slaves, for controlling dc and servo motors. I plan to have 5 DOF in each leg and arm, I have yet to decide on a gripper. I was also wondering if Arduino can control bipeds with the use of (simple) AI? Would it be easier to use another microcontroller, perhaps one stronger than both Raspberry Pi and Arduino? Thank you.

illustrator to large dgx file question? Answered

Hello. I'm in a bit of a hurry as there is a competition I want to enter by Friday but I just need to know before doing so if this is possible in theory. ( I only have to enter the image on Friday not the the object) My final aim is to have an intricate image laser cut into  metal sheet  (5' x 7'.) at a metal fabricator's. I have imported an A4 sized single colour tif. file into Illustrator and have converted it to a vector using Livetrace; it is now an ai. file. This as far as I have got  . But the question is ;  I plan to use one of the available convertors to change this ai. file to a dgx. file. Do I simply then take that to a fabricator and then that's it ? Have I missed out a hundred steps and complications ? Or is there a better way ? Or is it not possible to scale up  an image this way? It's obvious that I don't know what I'm doing so any advice will be appreciated. Thanks FOH

Two Hands Project First Flight

And we're off!At 3:30 this morning I began making the WOD's [waffles of departure] and gathered my friends. This was it, I was having my goodbye breakfast. We sat around a giant LED display that was playing tetris on autopilot like we were at a sports bar and called the AI engine out on it's bad plays. Choice is the name of the game in AI, how do you make the optimal choices with limited knowledge about the present and doubt about the future?I drank my cocoa considering the choices I've made to hit the skies and shoot a documentary on hackerspaces, and it filled me with exhilaration. What could be more critical than doing something that gives you the energy to do the thing you want to be doing? There has to be this ignition point to push the chooser into action, creating this snowball of awesome gathering steam as it goes downhill. Rather than chilling with Sysiphus on his uphill downhill journey. Feeling energized, feeling pumped, I called my friends around me and we ate to good health and poured generous libations of yogurt smoothie [Spilled the contents of the blender on the floor].
