Is it necessary to have a Facbook account? I do not have one and do not see the need.

When I click "connect with Facebook" button here is what happens: it tells me to sign in, then to accept instructables (witch I did) and then the window closes...2 seconds later instead of your Facebook account badge on instructables it just says "connect with Facebook" again! PLEASE FIX THIS

I'm wondering if it's worth getting facebook/twitter. I don't know that many people, but there are a couple that have it. I'm not used to things like this, as it is I got my email account 2months ago. So, should I get facebook or twitted, and what are the benigits?

I can't connect via Facebook (which is how I would normally connect) anymore. Neither from the upper right connect box, or the one when you try to Favorite. I had to create an account just to submit this bug (which defeats part of the purpose of social logins). And, after creating this account, I was not able to link the account to my Facebook account. It just does nothing, in all cases. FYI.. using Chrome on OS X. I see others are having issues as well, so please take a look into this. I'd like to make sure I can get the things I favorited previously. Thanks.

Far be it of me to downplay the impact of activists on the Facebook ToS issue but it raises interesting questions about why some companies get pilloried while others seemingly get a free pass...More Here' GMJHOWE asked me to link to his posting on security at Facebook, so here it is....

I've just pushed out a small set of changes, mostly around the Facebook integration. The Facebook login button isn't so obvious, and we've now got some admin features to handle a case that turns out to happen more than we expected. Here's what it is: Some people have both an Instructables account and a Facebook account. Some of these use different email addresses for each. When a person clicks the Login with Facebook button and approves Instructables with their Facebook account, one of the pieces of information we get is their email address, and we check it against our existing email addresses so as to link the correct account if we find a match. Often there is no match, and in the vast majority of these cases the person doesn't already have an Instructables account. So we make them one, and link it to their Facebook account. However sometimes they do have an Instructables account already, and now all of a sudden they have two! This is confusing and wrong, and we'd been dealing with it in a rather arduous manner involving direct database changes, which is always something to avoid. Now we've got a system for admins to handle this case with just a few clicks. Other than that, there are some bugfixes, for example around character display -- a few of our new Facebook visitors don't use the Latin alphabet! So we handle that a little better now. We have some more sensible default actions for new registrations, and a couple things to help our admins manage contests more easily, which they've been asking for for some time.

Hi guys, I think I might need a little help linking my instructables to my facebook. I have tried using the button several times, 10 I think, and I have made sure I carefully put in the username and the password correctly, but whenever I click sign in it always gives me a blank screen? Anyone else having the same problem, and does anyone know of a solution or a different way to connect the instructables and facebook accounts? Or is my facebook connected and I just cant tell because of the blank screen? When I log onto facebook seperatly it doesn't show in any way that I am connected to instructables. All of your answers would be helpful. Thanks!

So Facebook Login is here! Huzzah!! But what does it mean? Will everyone learn that my real name is Norbert van Houten? Will I have to hide those facebook pictures of me at the last Gay Pride Parade? Will my wife learn of the unspoken love between me and Caitlinsdad? Will this incite other women leading to anarchy of biblical proportions? It's in "Revelations", people.

So who is actually staying up until 12:01 to try to get a facebook username? I'm pretty confident my actual name won't be taken (it's not a very common name), but I am debating going for something funny. My top choices: 1. index.php 2. tom.cruise 3. my best friend's name

I've been working on an app for facebook. I guess you could say it's in closed beta. Anywho, I need a few people for a test group. It is a TNG-Era game, that so far has the option of: The Borg, The UFP and the Romulan Star Empire. Also, I would gladly accept suggestions from those who don't use facebook. Send me a friend invite with a small message here: https://www.facebook.com/tyman210 .I need a friend invite if you want to be an admin. If not go to: https://apps.facebook.com/starfleetacademy .Thanks,Tyman210

Browser: Firefox OS Win 7 I have a Facebook account and an instructables account. I login into instructables and go to link to Facebook ->a quick popup happens. The app for instructables is created in Facebook. Logout out of instructables. try logging into instructables with Facebook button and nothing happens (i.e. the screen reloads and I'm still not logged in) I have emptied cookies and tried redoing the whole process the result is the same.

Hi Guys, I just wanted to touch base with you all about the Facebook "post to profile, that's now on the bottom of each and every page. I like the ability to post 'Ibles on my Facebook account... Social advertising for the author, social advertising for instructables. Great idea! However, It's making me nuts that it's above the comments in all the Instructables. I often like reading peoples comments, and seeing my own facebook account there ever time, is not a lot of value added for me, and it feels sort of distracting. I'm not the hippest person around I'll admit, and don't post every thought I have on facebook or twitter, so perhaps other users will disagree with me... But i figured I'd share my few pixels. I DO really like this feature at the top of the page, where you have a row of other icons... Favorite, Twitter, flag, print & email... -AlpineButterfly

So our intern got me to finally check out facebook and I started a new account to find out that I'm one of the last few people in the metaverse to jump on this thing. Its all a bit new to me, but I did find an Instructables group. If you want to see a picture of me eating a flower, go and hit it up and join.

Hi, are some days that pressing the button "FBlogin" is no longer authenticated using my FB account, I tried to log in having opened another tab on FB but nothing changes. I normally use Chrome, but I tried with Explorer and Firefox, on Windows 7 and XP ... but it is still the same problem. Blame for the crisis here in Italy? :-)

I am using Google Chrome version: 20.0.1132.57 (up to date) When attempting to log in with the facebook button, I am taken to: https://www.facebook.com/.....https://www.instructables.com/index at which time, I receive the following error: An error occurred with tesla 12345. Please try again later. I can log in with the regular log in button, and once logged in, my fb picture is updated on my instructables profile. I assume the issue is limited to Chrome, as I can find only one other complaint, in German with no responses. Thank you in advance, Shane

I've been seeing a lot recently about Facebook's "Home" software taking over Android phones, but I can't find anything about choice - will this Home thing take over all Android devices (say, as part of an update), or is it something you choose to download and install? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22025729

Hi folks, the login function is broken. First my 1Password app wouldn't work with the little login at the top of individual instructables pages anymore, which was unusual, and now it takes multiple tries to log in even by my kludge solution which was hitting the login button without anything filled in and going to the actual login page, where the 1Password app will work. And it's odder than that - some places I appear to be logged in, and in others I am not. Such as here, where I am logged in. I think it's related to the facebook login. Just FYI I never want to log into anything but facebook with my facebook login . . . not instructables, not anywhere. EVER. But I still love instructables, just not this facebook login folderol. Thanks, Bett

Folks have been marking the "didn't there used to be" version of this question as Answered when someone says "yes" -- which is accurate but not very useful. Yeah, I know, I can probably set up my own bookmark for /answers... but I submit that I shouldn't have to. Unless the goal is to kill off the Answers system entirely...

I have been debating whether or not I should get a Facebook... I am 14, and my parents wouldn't let me get a Facebook until I started highschool, and of course I am entering highschool this year. I am trying to weigh the positives and negatives and stuff like that. I am just thinking that if someone needs to contact me, I can just call, email, or text them. I can text or email multimedia, and chat by texting, and play games at zone.msn.com... If there is any good reason that I should join Facebook, just let me know. If there are any reasons NOT to join Facebook, also let me know.

There is no "Suggestions" category, so I'll stick this in here. I think it'll be cool if on the profile pages were Twitter and Facebook buttons, and in the Settings you can specify the links to your profiles profiles, and people can contact you via them. I don't usually check my Instructables inbox, and I always give replies to FB first.
