Everyone loves video games. And most everyone loves social change. So, video games for social change.... a sure winner! If you're in New York City next week, be sure to check out the Games for Change Conference. It's hosted by Parsons School of Design, the greatest school on the planet (I might be biased).

I used to like console gaming because systems rarely/never costed more than $300, it was simple, and everybody had the same stuff. There were no expensive HDTVs, broadband-requiring/expensive online play, the fanciest peripheral was the rumble pack, and your console didn't do anything except light up a power light if there was no game in it.I'm not rich, my parents have never owned a house, and with all the fancy crap that consoles require and do today, I can't afford even a Wii (not that I'd want one, the novelty has worn off). I'm not saying all these improvements in gaming are bad, but for someone like me, I just don't have the money for a shiny new 360, or even high-speed internet (I live on an acerage and there's no cable in the country) for online muiltiplayer/communication.For now, I'll just have to fondly remember having home tournaments playing Star Wars Episode 1 Pod-Racer on N64 with my friends. What do YOU think about gaming today?

I was planning to purchase parts for a budget gaming system, around $600. Everyone says that Amd processors are a lot cheaper than Intel (which is true), but they say that the performance isn't nearly as good. What do they mean by this? Are they decent gaming processors? Thanks.

Last night we added a new "Games" category, and brought back (and made better!) the random sorting. When we first added categories, the theory was to add new categories as they emerged. I'd say that games has pretty clearly emerged. There are great Instructables focused on video games, video game cabinets, homemade game consules, board games, card games, magic tricks, dice games, how to cheat at games, and lots of other ways to have fun. Explore the games category, and have fun. If you come across an Instructable that should be included in games, but we missed adding to the category, leave a note here.A great way to see if there are any we missed adding to games, or just to explore the site in general, is the revived sort by random. It's new every time you click it in the Explore pull-down menu, or click "Spin the Bottle" on the explore pages. I bet you'll find something cool you've never seen before. As always, let us know what you think.

I don't have much information about this game aside from a vague description, but if anyone recognizes this, please speak up. So... What I know about this game, is that it is a multiplayer "rail shooter" type game for the original playstation. I remember that each player controlled a crosshair and each crosshair had a special attack. I remember the setting looking almost post-apocalyptic with destroyed buildings and tall skyscrapers. If anyone has the remotest idea of what I'm talking about, speak up please. I'll make sure to check all of the games in this genre.

Anybody know where to find the requirements for this contest? The link I was sent with my rejection didn't work, and a search of the site didn't turn up anything in the first couple of pages. I hacked a gaming chair to utilize my G13 gameboard and thought it should qualify under gaming ...

Can someone please tell me how to "crack" a game torrent. Is there a certain type of software that I can download for free? If so please list it and can you give me step-by-step instructions on how to do this(cracking). What exactly does it mean to crack a game? Remember I am dealing with streaming torrents that have been downloaded from the internet! Thanks

I have been thinking about designing a game. here are some ideas I've been kicking around: Post-apocalyptic themed RPG: Based loosely on Discovery's new series, The Colony, you would play a character and experience his struggles to survive a cruel and lawless world. Final fantasy styled game. Zelda Platformer: It would incorporate the 'hoppy-jumpy' gameplay of the Mario Bros. Platform games with the dungeon-questing and puzzle-solving of the Legend of Zelda Titles. Mario RTS: Simply combine the gameplay of C&C with the themes of the Mario Brothers. nothing more to say. I am using Game Maker 7 Lite. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

We all get bored at some point, right? Or we just want to slack off from school or work. So we play games we call flash games. Some of them completely suck, while some could have been sold for a price and been insanely successful (might be exaggerating a bit there). My point is what are some of your favorites? Personally I liked The Last Stand, Unreal Tournament, Tanks, and I can't remember any more right now...

I think it's a great idea, but I wouldn't even know where to get started on the technical aspect, nor the legalities involved. The game is basically a walk through an instructables-inspired home-built city of interesting devices and systems all loosely (or even exactly!) based on actual instructables. During the games as you explore you stumble on different tasks that you have to complete. You find parts to complete tasks scattered about the city, or win them for completing smaller tasks. Thoughts?

I want to get a new system, and I'm not sure if I should get an Xbox360 or a PS3. 360 has a whole bunch of awesome games, and PS3 has free online gaming. I'm not sure which one to choose. Which one is better? PLEASE DON'T JUST POST SAYING THINGS LIKE "Oh ps3 suks" or "I have a 360"

I need help. I've wanted to make a good 3D game for a long time now, and I don't know what to do next. I've downloaded the latest version of Blender on my computer, but my computer is very laggy, has an inconsiderate graphics card, and I have no idea how I'll be able to play it other than on the blender game engine. I took careful notes, I already have a pretty good idea what I want to make, but the idea is so huge, that I don't think my computer (or any computer) could handle it. I have excellent artistic skills, and I've made a lot of thumbnail drawings, conceptual artwork, and details. But I have absolutely no skills at programming, and I've never made a game before. What should I do now? I'm working on learning how to use blender, but since I just got it today, I might be a couple of decades...If I can't make this game, is there a company that I could sell my plans to in some hope that a game might be made? If I can't make a game, I suppose a good 3D movie would work as well...... But I just don't know yet.

I was just wondering how easy it would be to make your own simple game console to hook up to tvs. dosent have to have 3d graphics but it would be a plus. i just kinda want something to play around with and make my own games for it. price isnt really a problem but even a computer that can run .exes from a cd, and plug into a tv, and posibly even play through a online server with other people. edit: ok i meant like using microcontrolers now. i want to make a gamboy like system and possibly even wireless. i know you can play games using micro comtrolers, but no idea what i would need. anyone with any idea about this please comment. oh, and a lcd screen too, so that would prolly ne a little work, but im up for it

Here's my situation. I got Call of Duty: Special Editon 3 for the ps2 after playing the Xbox 360 version because I loved the multiplayer mode. But when my ps2 game arrived, it was only playable in single or online. I have close to dial-up internet. I have a Wii, Ps2, DS lite and Computer, So I was thinking about just selling it and buying it again for the wii. But I don't know if it has multiplayer (local). I could also get a newer call of duty. My last option is selling my ps2 and it's 14+ games and buying an Xbox 360. What should I do?

In the late '50's Popular Electronics magazine (out of print) published an article "building a rudimentary computer" It was called the Challenger. It was a circuit that could play the old parlor game of "21", and utilized a mechanical stepping relay to do the "computing". There was a series of 21 pilot lamps, with a 'player' and 'machine' pushbuttons. The player, and the machine, in turn, could light 1, 2, or 3 lamps, with the object being to avoid lighting the last, or 21st lamp. The machine would invariably win. The secret is that within the number 21 there are five groups of 4, with one left over. Whatever number the player selects, (1, 2, or 3) the machine then selects a number that, when added to the players choice, totals 4. (player 1, mach. 3 / player 2, mach 2/ player 3, mach. 1) It would seem that today's processors and LED's, could handle this task easily. Would you, or someone you know, be interested in designing such a circuit as a project? I built it back then but I'm afraid my knowledge is stuck back in that time and would need instructions remenicient of that era.

I've been looking online recently for some sort of "glove" that you would wear for gaming, instead of having a keyboard. Didnt really find anything.. at least in my price range. So i am going to get the Makey Makey tomorrow from a trade with a friend, i figured this was my best bet. My idea for this glove would be that it have either foil on the tips or that sewing yarn that can be used as wire. There would be a thin Aluminum Sheet that you would tap with the appropriate finger. The aluminum sheet would act as the ground. My other idead would be instead of having the Aluminum Sheet have the tech yarn in the palm of your hand, but this would get uncomfortable after time. I want to make this so i could possibly in the future have two gloves one for each hand. Also, if i was to use the special yarn for electronics, i would have to wear to gloves since the yarn would weave in and out of the glove grounding to your finger. Most likely going to be working on this tomorrow or as soon as i can get some cheap gloves. I'll upload pictures then. any suggestions?

Ender's Game is being adapted into a video game. It won't be the whole book so no hacking mini-games where you try and post comments as another student. No, this will be focusing on the Battle Room. Even more intriguing, to me at least, is that this will be distributed via Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network and not on a disc. Very interesting. So how excited am I about this? Excited enough to say that it will likely be absolutely horrible and worthless. That's right, I'm burying my expectations right next to all those copies of E.T. for the 2600. Otherwise I risk extreme disappointment which leads to rage which leads to fighting words in Internet forums which just leads to a sorry state of being altogether. full story

Hello. I was looking at building my own "gaming laptop" by putting an Alienware Alpha (i3 edition http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MA7AF74/ref=twister_B00PW1Z7TQ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) in a briefcase with a screen. Is there any way I can power these two items with a battery? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Then Also the EXP and Health the PP and the pokemon attack moves themselves. I guess what I'm trying to ask is : Does anyone know what I should do ? Thanks Nathan
