theo jansen

Does anybody know the exact dimensions of theo jansen kinetic sculpture's legs? On a video theo jansen said that 11 different dimensions would work, but 1 was the best. Does anybody know the dimensions? I'm going to build a solar version just to impress people in this solar contest.

Theo jansen mechanism

OK, I finally got hold of measurements for theo's strandbeest. these come directly from theo himself which means there accurate however it also means they're not in English. the numbers are there and they're easy to figure out, but it would be nice to know what the paragraph beside them says. so if any can read it, please post a translation. thanks

[Unicode Symbols for your convenience: Degree= ° , Half = ½ , Third = â, Fourth = ¼, Three Fourth = ¾ , Integral = ∫ , Differential = ∂, Delta = Δ , Square = ² , Cube = ³ , Square root = √, Cube Root = â, Infinity = ∞, sum = ∑ , Therefore = ∴, Because = âµ,]

Motorized Gakken STRANDBEEST desktop model kit

Has anyone replaced (or plan to replace) the Gakken desktop strandbeest model kit's wind turbine with a toy DC motor and gear system?  If so, I would love to hear what specific motor and gear system was used and how you mounted everything on the model. It would take a motor with adequate torque to operate the twelve legs, a properly sized gear/gears to operate the model at a moderate speed  and some simple way to connect the motor/gear to the existing gear system.  I've seen hacks for K'nex, tinker toy, erector set, aduino, & custom builds but nothing added to the Gakken mini strandbeest kit except a hamster wheel.

Walking robot - very cool, despite the headlights being in its knees...

This chap has home-built a Jansen-style walker. It's a well-made video as well.

Anyone know anything about old (60's) guitar amps?

I picked up old a Jansen eight 25. It's in not bad condition, apart from a dodgy tube socket and a missing dial, all of which can be repaired easily. Anyway, I was looking on-line and could not find any data for it other than it's a early 60's amp. Seems to work great. the unit is about 2feet wide and 1.5 feet tall. Made in New Zealand. So I was wondering if anyone could provide me with more data on this, if it is worth anything. If it is not, then it would make a interesting teardown.

I need to buy or fabricate a strong crankshaft for a strandbeest-like glass robot.

I'm making a walking robot out of glass based on Theo Jansen's strandbeest leg design. Fabricating the crankshaft has proven an odious challenge. I'm looking for a source where I can buy either a complete crankshaft to my specs or parts from which to fabricate my own. It needs to be about 30" long, with 6 crank arms (offset 120°, therefore 2 at each angle), throw on the crank to be 1". My original design was for a 1/2" diameter shaft, which is necessary if it's going to be glass, but if metal the shaft diameter could probably be smaller. The video here shows the crankshaft I made, but I don't  really trust it.http://instagram.com/p/x8xcPeyn-1/?modal=true  The prototype leg:  http://instagram.com/p/wewqr1yn6a/?modal=true

Spam-only users

I don't know if this is the right area, feel free to move this message if it isn't (if you can do that). Is there some way we can notify users as spam, the way we can with Insturctables and comments? There has been a rash of new users, mostly allegedly 25 years old, posting spam instructables about a couple of DVD ripping/converting programs (Cucusoft and Daniusoft, IIRC). The instructables are written like genuine ones, so at a glance aren't obviously spam, but there have sometimes been duplicate postings of identical 'tibles by the same persontheir comments are pretty much more of the samethe screenshots of the products appear to have been made for other purposes, they haven't used the 'ibles image hint box thingsKarel Jansens has commented on many of them and has also flagged them, but it seems like a bit of a chore commenting all their Instructables and comments when the users are transparently only there for the purpose of spamming.Just from a quick search for "DVD converter": danke, chickchest, seinfelder, Adam Smith, D Eric, floxir and skyocean appear to all be spamming a couple of video format converters.tl;dr- can we report users for the banhammer? Does it count as spam if they post a well-written set of instructions for how to use software that happens to not be free? EDITIt's getting worse, it appears- the spam users are commenting on each other's Instructables to make them look legitimate. Observe this fine specimen:More blah about DVD convertersAll three people who have commented on it (at time of writing) are spam-only members who appear to only exist to talk about this software. The names Daniusoft and afterdawn predictably come up again. Blueberry, tracyjump and CrayDeng can be added to the list above.I'm officially petitioning the site admins to ban all of these users (and preferably their IPs) and remove their Instructables.
