I heard a laser could shut down cameras. How do I know if one is used on my cameras to protect my house.

After reading this, and then this, I started thinking of how easy it would be to make a burning laser. I went to Radioshack, got some components, and started thinking. One thing that Stephanie's laser didn't have is a potentiometer, to control the power of the laser. Well, I ended up getting 12 assorted pots at Radioshack, but didn't know what one to use. I want decent control, too. What size (in ohms or k-ohms) do you think I need? I'm spotty in my electronics knowledge. PS- The size in ohms on the pot is the pot's range, right? If it says 100k, it means that it will resist from 0 to 100 kilo ohms, right? Also, in the shematic below, I don't know if the pot is connected correctly, post a comment if it's wrong.

The top cap where the laser lens are will not come off
So im making a laser spirograph (https://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Spirograph/#step1) and i just got my laser diode to come out of its case, and i was wondering where i should solder the red and black wire as it does not look like the one in the 'ible. the laser diode looks like this one here http://10mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm) (i would take a pic of the diode but i cant find my camera!) the only difference in the diodes is that mine has a black button instead of the red. Oh and one more thing is that it has to bypass the use of the button. Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

I know scientist have created lasers that can cut but how much money would it take to make one? and what materials would be need? and... what kinds of materials would be laser resistance, not effected by a laser... or would that depend on the lasers stength?

A member PM'd me with this question, "hi im asking if i can use the arduino micro controller in distance measuring using laser" My response was "Laser distance is the time of flight of a pulse of light pulse that travels 3 feet in a single nanosecond..." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_rangefinder Do you think the Arduino can execute instructions at a fraction of a nanosecond ? What is the clock frequency of an Arduino ? . Take care of your eyes when using lasers !

Hello (excuse my English really bad I'm Belgian and French) I would like to cut aluminum sheet of + - 5 mm thick and also cut paper without "burning the edges" I would like to know what kind of "laser head" the cheapest possible exists and what would be even better, whether this kind of "laser head" is recovering ... I was thinking of a DVD laser burner but, even though I I'm as good at DIY as an elephant is good at skydiving, I guess a DVD burner will not cut aluminum ... A big thank-you

I have a laser diode that needs between 3.7v and 4.2v to run, http://www.laserlands.net/gd-ms-200mw-green.html and i plan to run it of an arduino (5v). to reduse the voltage i have calculated that i need a resistance of aproximately 1.333ohm. is this necessary/is there a bether way to do this? thank you in advance for any answer!

Hey guys, I can imagine this question being asked a few times, but google did not provide good results. ANyways, I have a CD drive, CD burner, and DVD drive and wanted to build myself one of those nifty laser pointers that can burn matches almost instantly. Which one will have the strongest laser to do this with? I'm assumign either the CD burner or the DVD. so which should I tear into?

So recently I've collected a couple 32" fresnel lenses from rear projection tv's and am curious how one( if possible) would collimate the light into a laser beam to cut materials. I've spent a few hours searching the web trying to find the information I am seeking. Even help with searching terms would be appreciated.

Hi all!So, I have been volunteering at an animal hospital in my home town, and I have been allowed to observe 11 surgeries so far, 4 of which have been performed with this 30 Watt CO2 Surgical Laser. I would like it if someone could explain to me how a CO2 laser works, and I would be willing to answer any questions. the surgeries I have watched are: (1) a spay on a dalmatian (2) an entropion correction on a bullmastiff (3)a cauterization of a bleeding tail tip (without anesthetic & with me holding the dog down!) and (4)a front declawing of a cat.

Link to buy the plans to make your own (would be cool for the Robot Challenge, i am thinking about it) March 6, 2008 Stephen Hobley saw Jean Michael Jarre play his highly theatrical Laser Harp live 22 years ago and vowed heââ¬â¢d build one just like it. Heââ¬â¢s just ironed out the bugs and you can see him play it here. Whatsmore, he has detailed the entire construction process on the Internet. He reckons anyone can build one for under US$600 after purchasing his US$19 Laser Harp Plans and Source Code.

Hey I read something somewhere about how to make a Laser from a DVD burner. Ive seen the lasers from DragonLasers and WickedLasers and I want one, but because of the price I thought maybe it would be better to make one myself. This is the DVD burner I intend to use: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/111Y366TSDL._AA160_.jpgPlease reply to make ASAP with any advice on how to do this.I am not very good at electronics or anything like that, this is the first time Ive done my own little project like this.Thanks.

I am trying to create 8 motorised lasers that move (ideally randomly) between a 135Ë angle. I doubt with my level of knowledge i will be able to make them move randomly but if i can't just moving back and forth between the 135Ë would have to do.These motors would have to be reversable and travel between 2 points making an arc of 135Ë, I'm looking at making this in the cheapest way possible. By mounting cheap pen lasers onto mini motors and somehow getting them do this. I will need to see the beams of light so unless i can find a better way to used focused light cheaply, i'll have to use a smoke machine or something. Having no real knowledge of this, would it be easily achievable, i would use a microcontroller to make the motor movement random within that 135 degrees but i have no idea how i'd go about it.

Can you connect LED's and lasers in a series/parallel circuit with a transformer? How would the math work to figure out what kind of resistors I need? Keep in mind I am a beginner when it comes to LED's and no almost nothing about lasers. Just trying to figure this stuff out for some home projects. Any help would be amazing =)

I have four laser modules taken from laser pointers. Normally each module runs off of three hearing aid batteries in series, 1.5 volts per battery 4.5 volts total. I want to run all four laser modules off of two D size batteries which are 1.5 volts each 3 volts total in series. The problem is they will not light up when connected to the two D size batteries in series ? When I use a power supply they will light up even at only 1.5 volts ( although dim ) up to 5.5 volts, after that they become permanently dim, with the brightest at 3 volts. It seems like I have to limit the amps not necessarily the volts. Each module has its own resistor - the # on it is 680. When I measure the resistance it shows 68 ohms. What do I need to do to get this to work ? There must be some way to simply figure this out.... By the way I have about 40 more laser modules and I might like to use them all at once to make say..... an unquestionably visible turn signal bulb for my truck or maybe a very illuminating flood light for my backyard .... If I can figure this out the possibilities are endless !

Http://techblips.dailyradar.com/video/mosquito-killed-by-a-laser/ According to what I have been reading the designers of this, found the parts on ebay for less than $50 making me want to scream"Tony Stark built this in a cave! From a box of scraps!" I know the main issue is the software (which is based off of a missile defense system.) however all the parts are here LED/perimeter detector - Check have seen an instructible on this before Laser capable of shooting down mosquito- Check. we had a hand held laser pointer that some guy bought in the army that could cause a beret to smoke . But It cost a bit more than $50 I believe. Turret for Laser- Check, this is easy enough of a build. Software to use laser on - questionable. It was designed by a guy who made missile defense systems and the star wars system, but there is probably someone that smart on here Other viable replacements like a motion detector/heat detector etc- Check, though its tunability to killing mosquitos is questionable. Summer is coming soon and this could be the coolest light show ever.

Hey all. im new here, so forgive me if this question has already been asked. I have an old, slimline ps2, and i was wondering if there was anything i could do with the laser that reads the disks? it kinda looks like the laser from an XBOX 360, so can i do the same projects with a ps2 laser? Or are there any other already existing things that i can do with it, specifically with the laser diode? thanks for any help! --knightly insane
