DIY BBQ grill Answered

Hello, I'm building a BBQ from an old 20ltr water boiler. I need to make the grill (where the meat goes). I'm thinking about making it from rebar. Would this be safe? I looked to buy one premade, but don't find one the right size

Rebar would be fine although a little on the thick side.
I'd go for 5mm steel rod if it was me, but you're going to be burning it clean anyway, so whatever suits you.

You want it to be thin unless you use a solid plate.
Thick rebarwill take a long time to get hot enough but also retains a lot of heat, making it quite hard to get proper results.
Consider stainless steel round bar material, like found in the racks of commercail fridges and freezer, quite cheap from the local wrecker or recycling depot.
