It's Been a While Answered

Hi!!!

It's been a while. I haven't been around much. I started a new job and it didn't allow for much spare time. Not sure if I'll be around often still, the new job keeps me busy. I'm going to make an effort to stop in once in a while again though.

It's just about time for a new instructable

Familiar Faces!

I see you are all PRO's

Is it worth it? Should I go Pro?

I think that depends on what you mean by "worth it."  You missed all of the discussion (and all the vitriol!) when paid accounts were rolled out.  Eric did a good writeup of the reasons behind the change (which didn't stop the whiners or the ad hominem attacks).

Basically, I'bles lost about half their revenue, which had been coming entirely from ads.  With no way to make that up, they went to a "two-tier" user model, free vs. paid.  The revenue from the paid accounts is critical for Instructables to continue operating.

The unpaid accounts have full access to the basic content uploaded to the site: all the I'bles are visible, as are all the steps, images, and image notes, and users can print PDF ve), while paid accounts get some added value on the content, such as all-steps-on-one-page, customizable PDF formatting, more complex editor markup, and so on.  There are also some "social networking" features with paid accounts, such as user creatable and distributable patches.

So we come back to my question.  What does "worth it" mean?  If you think that all those extra features are important, then pay for them.  If you don't care about the features, but you do want to help the site continue operating (i.e., existing), then pay for an account.
