Should there be an automatic answer function? Answered

I get annoyed every time a see an answered question left unmarked, is there any way the computer could automatically mark the question as answered after a week?
That would be helpful for sorting out people that need help from people that are lazy.

An automatically generated nag email that gets sent out every day could help. But then people would just mark it as spam.

Yes, to most it would be common courtesy to acknowledge the fact that someone responded to you asking a question. But "thank yous" are getting more rare these days. Maybe you should write and instructable on how to respond to a question that has been answered for you. But then nobody would read it anyway. Maybe I need to work on being more positive.

Thanks for the reply.

I will ad your idea to my list of things to create and hopefully get it up.

There is no "answered" button.

Instead, there is a "Best Answer" button. The question's author should only hit the "Best Answer" button when they have had a response that answers the question to their full satisfaction.

Of course, there seem to be a lot of people, especially new members, who forget to actually return to questions they have asked, and only read the replies in their email feeds.

But it wouldn't be answered! I guess there could be a time out function.

I know what you mean though.

Perhaps better would be the ability to sort to a given date - say the questions asked in the last week, or month or year.

Yes, the sort by date button would be very helpful, there are a few questions out there that have been answered but not marked.
