I submitted one instructable for contest. I want to edit one correction. If i edit, is my instructable disqualified from the contest?

I just suffered a minor coronary looking at the cost of text for the next semester, and was wondering if anyone here had experience using international editions for engineering courses, It would be nice to trim my cost from $600 to $300 but I don't want books I can't use.

I am a relatively new member. I just posted a comment on an Instructable. After posting, I discovered that I had made an error of fact. My question is: Is there a way to edit (one's own) posted comments after the initial posting?
Posted by easy-does-it 8 years ago | last reply 4 years ago
I misspelled a keyword and another keyword pairing I want to delete. The edit and keyword button appear but when i click on it, nothing happens. I have tried 3 browser all with Java enabled and still nothing. Anyone have ideas? If it helps, this is the instructable => LINK

Hey, I got a suggestion for Instructables: allow comment editing. It just sucks that, if you comment, you notice you made a typo, and thus want to edit it, but the only way by doing so is deleting your old comment, leaving a (removed by author or cumminty request) behind.

Hi everybody Is there a way to edit posted comments on instructables? (yeah, I know I should use the preview button) but once the comment has been posted how could I edit it? I hate to find an error once it's posted and the only way to edit it is by deleting and re-post the comment. Sure I could copy & paste but then my links are gone and I don't want to search through websites again to reconstruct what could be a simple edit.

Hi, I made a collection (https://www.instructables.com/id/useful-stuff/ ) that can not be edited or unpublished. I addition, the graphical feedback after trying to add something was quite misleading by showing a green checkmark along with the error statement (see image below) Sorry for crossposting the topic to the FAQ section (in https://www.instructables.com/community/How-to-edit-my-Collections/ ) - I now realize that it must be a bug. I also tried to reproduce the error by making a new collection with the same content. However, this new collection can edited and unpublished without any problems. Any ideas? Best wishes, Lars

Well, long story short, I can't edit my collections at all. I get this 'error, something happened' screen and it doesn't matter what device or browser I use. I know this issue has been brought up before but it hasn't been worked on since. Hopefully a few more drops in the bucket will convince the techs to look into it or at least respond with 'we're working on it'.

I have a Windows Vista Computer, and am using the Firefox browser. For some reason I'm not able to edit the Survival themed collection I have published. When I click on the edit button on its page, I get the error screen. I also can't add instructables to it directly from the page of the instructable I want to add. It keeps giving me errors, and I've tried several different instructables with the same results. The funny thing is, All my other published collections are still working fine. Can you please help me with this?

1. What Operating system the device you are using, if its a computer, that would be linux, windows or mac (or freebsd etc) for mobile it would be android, iOS, windows mobile. Please also include the version number. Ubuntu Mate 17.04 and Windows 7, all operating systems 2. Browser information including version number, if you're using the mobile app include app version number Linux Chrome Version 58.0.3029.81 (64-bit) 3. Include what project or url you were looking at when the error occurred https://www.instructables.com/id/Raspberry-Pi-Garage-Door-Opener-with-streaming-vid/ 4. Screen shots of what happened if available After saving only middle 4 lines are saved. AuthType Basic AuthName "Restricted Content" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/.htpasswd Require valid-user 5. steps to reproduce, this will be one of the most important pieces of information as it will enable us to do the same thing and find a fix. So, I started making it But I encountered a problem.Against each component(as seen in below) I gave a link. While editing when I clicked on preview everything was aligned properly, but when I saw the full preview it looked like such a mess! What shall I do? Is there Any solution for it?

Hey everyone....I recently acquired a digital video camera and am looking for software to capture and edit. I don't need something like FinalCut - it just needs to be able to grab stuff off my camera and have basic editing capabilities. Any recommendations on something sub $50.Normally, I'd just use windows movie maker :P Unfortunately, its acting up (can't view any previews) and reformatting is not an option at the moment :P

I published a new collection. During the time it took to publish it, I got "an error has occurred". Now when I go into the collection and hit edit or try to add an additional page to the collection, I get "Something unexpected happened! If the error keeps occurring, file a bug report!"

From time to time people ask if it's OK to edit their Instructables after the contest has closed for entries? The concern being that it could be seen as cheating. The answer is YES, oh absolutely YES, you can edit as much as you want whenever you want. If you can clean up your Instructable, add more useful detail or information, or add a video, then go for it. There are a couple of reasons for this. The big reason is that the project itself, whatever was built or done for the entry, is not going to be changed by these edits. Any change will be to the presentation of that project. Of course, we also don't recommend publishing and entering an Instructable that is in disarray and making it whole over the next couple of days. It's always helpful for you to make a good first impression. The other reason that we're fine with edits is that we want authors to see each Instructable as a living document. If you realize that some information is incorrect or could be clarified, then you should be free to go in and make a change whenever you want. Many of these changes are brought about by comments from others right after publication and we don't want to hold you back from that. So I hope that clears things up for authors and if you have any more questions about it, feel free to ask away in the comments.

When I go to continue my step-by-step instructable, instructables has this gray rectangle that says: "Updating...", and I can see the things that I did popping up, but everything is there (I think...?), and the little rectangle is not going away... What's going on here???

Hi all, I just wanted to share this event from the outernet project (outernet.is), which is building a free satellite library for all of humanity. In partnership with creative commons, they are looking for free or open licensed content in every language, or people to translate existing resources. These resources, continuously curated, will be down-streamed via satellite to the whole world. Also, do you think this idea is more/less/differently practical than internet.org's mission? http://editathon.outernet.is/

Because I had some time on my hands last Saturday, I decided to revisit my Slinghammer (A.K.A. the R1), but instead of just rebuilding the old gun, I decided to make it "bullpup operated." This version, the Slinghammer BE (Bullpup Edition) is more powerful, arguably more accurate, gets better range, and is less piece consuming that the first and second version. But, all of these advantages come at a cost. The Slinghammer BE does not have a adjustable stock, it is not as cool looking as the second Slinghammer version, and it is not as easy to load as the first version. Features: - Looks O.K. (IMO) - Accurate up to 80 - 90 ft. - Great ranges: 100 - 120 ft. - Modeled after the SRv3 - Very comfortable handle - Really comfortable stock There you have it. I thought that I would just let you guys know what I am working, what I'm keeping busy with, etc. Also, BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE NEW POLLS ON MY SITE. Find them here. -The Red Book of Wesmartch

I'm working on a Robin cosplay, and I need some kind of wrist-computer set up for my iPod touch. Hopefully something fairly simple, since I really don't have much experience with nor access to major equipment. Any ideas? EDIT: Also, I still need some of the Boy Wonder's various gadgets and such. They'd mostly be just for show, but having at least some kind of decorative functionality (i.e. lights, sounds, lenses, etc.) would be nice. All opinions and ideas are very much appreciated!

So I got an xbox 360 elite for Christmas. I set up my xbox live account and already have 75 gamerscore lol. My xbox 360 gamertag is "InvariantMedal". I'm not a serious player, but I am decent at games when I master their controls. I'll post pictures of my xbox setup in my den later on. Maybe tomorrow. What's your setup look like? *EDIT- 3/18/10* Don't expect to see me on live for a while. Some asshole broke into my house and stole my 360 and other game consoles. I did manage to get 2615 gamerscore before my 360 got stolen.

Hi, Its my moms birthday coming up and shes totally obsessed with this dancing orange blob thing known as zingy. http://beatbots.net/project/zingy/ Zingy isn't commercially availiable and neither is the similar Keepon Pro which has similar sort of movement but there is a toy version called My Keepon: http://mykeepon.com/ I have ordered one (Arriving Monday) and wondered if anybody has any ideas on: 1. what a good material to make some zingy like eyes would be 2. what possibilities there are for colouring rubber to dye it orange 3. how easily deformable rubber is (to get the "quiff") Cheers, J P.s. Apologies if this is in the wrong section, first post although I have been lurking for years!

I'm in the middle of writing up an Instructable, and twice now have had to completely rewrite steps. The circumstances each time were identical: 1. I added an image to a new step. 2. I added text to the step. 3. I added another image to the step. 4. The text vanished as the new image appeared on the step. I'm using XP and up-to-date FF4. Update: Frequent use of the "save" button doesn't work. I just typed up the last step of my Instructable, hit save, added an image, and the text disappeared again.

I have to go to you>instructables>published (or unpublished) and select "edit" there if I wish to edit an instructable of mine FF 3 in Ubuntu.
Posted by Lithium Rain 9 years ago | last reply 9 years ago
I had great difficulty finishing off my latest Instructable. It's 8 steps, and I had all 8 written, but only images on seven of them. When I tried to edit the final step and add an image, the editing page froze. When I clicked on the step with no image, I got the "saving" spinner, which spun for a few minutes, and then it went back to the first step (not the intro). I tried re-ordering the steps, moving the image-free step to step seven temporarily, but it still froze when I clicked on the image-free step. I eventually had to delete the step completely (using the re-ordering tools) and re-create it from scratch. Bug experienced on up-to-date Firefox and XP and on slightly out-of-date Linux and FF.

Is there a way to edit an already published ible so that it doesn't keep getting autosaved as changes are being made. I can just imagine somebody loading one while I've got a paragraph all in pieces figuring out a better way to word something. I know you can unpublish something, but would that cause it to lose all its comments and views?

I am probably doing something wrong, but when I try to add instructions in the edit window all the words go away once I save and get out. Also, when I add instructions, then add a step, the instruction from the first step is in the edit window. If I change the danything in the edit window it gets changed for all steps. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

I recently did a big edit to an existing project*, and during the edit I set the instructable as "private" (I was spending a couple of evenings on it, and didn't want it seen in the mid-edit mess). Yesterday, I tried the same with another project**, but when I hit the button to make it private, I got a pop-up telling "You're not allowed to look at that". Any chance of a fix? *https://www.instructables.com/id/Cuboid-Globe/ **https://www.instructables.com/id/FidgetCube/
