Arduino Input

I am writing an Arduino program to read speaker inputs for a test station.  I need only to know when a speaker lead is on or off. This will be done by using the fade and balance.  Originally I was connecting the speaker leads to the analog inputs and could get a single line to work as a simple VU meter. Multiple lines gave issue.  Since I don't need to know the actual level, just whether they are on or off I'd like the speaker lead to trigger a transistor connected to a digital I/O pin on the Arduino.  Any thoughts or quick schematics on how to do this?

Comparator Inputs ?

On the two inputs of a standard comparator op amp (say for example  LM741)  they usually  connect resistors from both the positive and negative voltage rails .Why do they do this and how does this work . This has been on my mind for a really long time . Could someone give me a really detailed explanation maybe with images if possible , cause this would be really helpful in the building of my next project .Most of the tutorial videos out there , i don't understand either. Thank you in advance

Audio input switch

I need this simple device, because i have two audio interfaces (one for guitar recording and one for vocal recording) and when i change audio interface i need to disconnect output cable, of first interface, from my monitors and then connect output cable from second interface to my monitors. So with this I can choose between two different stereo audio inputs and send one of them to output. I am using TRS connectors, but i will also need XLR version of this. Check out this picture:

Rotary input for a cellphone

I have an idea to do a total conversion on a cellphone, including things like a steam-driven charger, etc. The issue I am running into here is if I could, I'd want to make it rotary. I saw Randofo's PIC method for making it a USB input here but I have no clue in terms of how a cellphone works, or any of the chips involved. Sadly, my knowledge is mechanical, not circuitry. Any sort of ideas are welcome... please help me progress on what I hope to be my magnum opus of steampunkerie.

Operational Amplifier input voltage affects other input?

Hello, I have created a simple circuit where 2 10k resistors make a voltage divider. Supply voltage is 12.5V and if I measure in between the 2 resistors, I'm getting 6.3V. Great! Now I connect that 6.3V to the +input of an OpAmp. Result: the value is still 6.3V. Great! (The OpAmp is also fed with 12.5V) Now I connect the -input of the OpAmp to the supply voltage (12.5V). The voltage in between both resistors suddenly changes from 6.3V to 10.1V. NOT Great! Now I connect the -input of the OpAmp to ground (0V). The voltage in between both resistors changes from 6.3V to 2.4V. ?! The output of the OpAmp is not connected to anything. I thought that OpAmp inputs, in theory, have infinite resistance? The datasheet of this OpAmp (LT1253) sais the input resistance should be 10Mohm I also tested this same thing with the LT1497 and the results are the same. When the -input of the  OpAmp was connected to 12.5V, I measured the current going into that pin, 39mA!! (Only measured on the LT1253) What's the problem here? Are both OpAmps broken? Or is there something about the way OpAmps work, that I clearly don't understand?

How can I send audio through a mini coaxial jack?

I have an outdated (but retro & cool-looking) Sony Watchman FD-500. It has a powerful radio & speaker as well as a 5" black and white tube television. Although digital broadcasts have pretty much ruined any chances of getting TV signals on the screen anymore, there is a 1/8" headphone jack-sized input on the rear for "EXT ANT". i found a coax-to-jack converter that allows me to plug in video inputs like a Nintendo once i tune it to Channel 3. I was wondering if this same jack can also be used to feed in audio from an iPod or phone. Since it looks like a normal headphone jack I tried the obvious, a direct input, but something isn't going through. Here's a link to a page with photos: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/sony_mega_watchman_fd_500fd50.html

MP3 input alternative on a stereo

Hi guys, I have a really burning question thats been eating me for a while. Can you put an alternative input on a stereo system to read mp3s? For example i have this stereo that plays mp3s but only has the disk input. This means in order to use it i have to burn the songs i want off my computer on to a disk then i can listen to my music. For those who probably WILL ask, I don't like playing my music off my computer because it's generally really loud, i want to use this in another room as well. My taste in music constantly changes, eventually i will want to remove a couple songs or add new ones. With that said, i want to know if you can remove/replace or add another input system to where a CD reader would be so that it reads a USB input or something. Then music can easily be manipulated to the users liking. As long it's not directly connected to a computer or requires the user to make new copies of the same music that take up space. Thanks!! Headphone output into mic input?

I've got a cheap voice changer that is hard-wired to a computer-style microphone. I cut off the mic and added a 1/8" miniplug adapter, so as to increase flexibility. I need to connect the powered headphone output of an mp3 player to this voice-changer, what is the easiest way to do so? I tried an attenuator I had lying around, but got no results (are attenuators one way?) is there a good (cheap) solution to this problem?

Want to find capacitive touch input for project

Hi there, I am working on a personal project and would like to find a capacitive touch input device which is roughly 5x30cm in size and will give me a x,y value for one or two fingers. The resolution does not need to be brilliant - 7 bit range in the x direction and maybe 5 bit in the y direction would be fine. Serial interface which I can use with my Arduino. I would also like to get a "pressure" for each - I know this is asking a lot but the "pressure" can roughly be guessed at not by actual pressure but by perhaps an increased/decreased capacitance or the amount of the surface being covered. I only need this to determine which of the two finger inputs is pressing hardest so again it doesn't need to be precise. Would anybody know of such a device? I mean - there must be companies producing these, I'd not want to go and have a custom one made for price considerations but surely there is something vaguely close. I have looked into the possibility of making one for myself but it appears I would struggle to do something this complex with my Arduino alone and the only IC which will do this with a homemade panel (not that I have the ability to create a capacitive panel with this many pads) seems to be QProx QT1081 which only accepts 8 inputs. Any pointers or ideas would be very gratefully received :) Cheers, Adam

Use Output as Input

Hi ! I have this program, Finale 2005b. I've searched everywhere, and I cannot find any way to export the music I produce in there as a real audio file (NOT a midi). So, to achieve this, I have decided to record the output as the input... using Audacity , actually. To do so, I used a simple mono cable to go from my headphone to mic plugs, and set the volume to the minimum... to avoid too much amplitude going in. Now, for the use I want it, this method is way too dodgy (plenty of interference, specially each time I move the cable 1 mm...) I'm pretty sure there is some program or solution to directly map the stream around... I don't have much funds, so free would be good, and btw I work on Win32. Thanks

How to connect physical pushbuttons to a computer for use in a soundboard program?

Can I wire these speakers in sequence? Can I use input for output?

I'm filling a box with multiple different speakers I have salvaged from different items. I would like to wire these speakers in some kind of sequence. Basically, I would wire one to the source, and then I would wire the next speaker to the speaker that's already been wired, using the solder to connect. Would this work correctly? Also, I have a volume switch that uses A/V connections. The problem is that it has three inputs but only one output. I would basically like to reverse this. Is it possible?

how do i add RCA inputs to my portable dvd player?

Hi After moving i unearthed my old, but very big screened, portable dvd player. It used a Li-Po battery which is lost and has been flat for 4-6 years, so its unlikely to work anymore, and even so, i no longer need it. What i do now need is an LCD reverse parking monitor. I have everything but an LCD with RCA inputs, so i figure, why not repurpose my DVD player. I need to know,  how would i go about locating the correct area in the circuit to connect the RCA input? I know how to follow tracks, im just not sure what it is im looking for, My first thought was, follow the RCA outputs, and hope that at some point it leads to where the DVD player is producing the RCA that goes both to the output jack, and also to another processor/ encoder/ decoder which then feeds the data stream to the LCD, and all i need to do is sever the original RCA track and use my own, however before i do anything, i want a second opinion, as well as also finding out if my logic is sound. If infact the datastream from the dvd reader is being turned into a decoded datastream for the LCD in the same place that also creates the RCA output, then this wont work, as there is nowhere to put the inputs. In this case, how would i go about getting my video output to display on the LCD? how would i go about locating a decoder and conecting it up and ect,  just video anyway, for the time being i dont need audio, also the audio track is easy enough to manually hijack anyway. This is a situation where i would rather spend an excessive amount of effort in getting it to work rather than buying a display. Thanks

Project in mind. Need ideas for simplicity.

I have a project in mind. I have children with a pet cat. I intend to build a charcoal filtering for a catbox/cat tree I am building. I want to use an alarm clock (easy to adjust time if needed) to activate maybe a buzzer and flashing light daily for box cleaning. The fan runs at a low speed constantly at the top of a vent tube to keep the smell controlled.  I want an input to reset the buzzer/flashing light when the drawer with the litter box is opened. I have no idea how to build the circuit. I tested the filter system on a mockup box. It works fine cat doesn't notice the fan. (its 3ft up a 3" piece of PVC). The lack of smell is the reason I'll need a reminder. I could purchase an industrial programmable relay but cost is a huge factor and buying an added power supply etc for control voltage adds up. I have an industrial electrical background and no problem working with small circuitry but have never designed anything so hints and help will be appreciated.

Is there an easy way to port an instructable to a website that I'm making?

I'm making an informational website for my Web design class using Adobe Dreamweaver. He wants it to be informational, so I figured it would be easy just to move my instructable to the site and format it a bit rather than start from scratch. I tried copying the source code, no go since the pictures aren't stored "locally" Right now I'm in the process of copying and pasting the text, but there has to be an easier way (this is a 30 step instructable) Do you know how to port an instructable to another site, while keeping all of the images and text local to a flash drive? I'd like to preserve the notes option as well. I can't use the flash insert that the site has made, because it's too small and doesn't work right for my use. Any ideas?
