How To Stop A Shutdown/Restart in Windows Answered

This is for when you accidentally or on purpose start a shutdown or restart. It will stop it immediately. I used it a couple days ago, having stumbled on it some day on the intertubes, and it saved me from having to restart.

Press the Windows key on your keyboard and R, or open it from the Start menu. Type shutdown -a and click OK/ press enter.

Thank You soooooooooooo much! It said "shutdown in 2 minutes" Because I accidentally made a batch file that makes your computer shut down. It worked! My heart was beating so fast until i entered that command in the run thing.

Make it a bit easier and put that command in a shortcut on your desktop. You could use a Stop sign! :)

1) Right-click -> New -> Shortcut
2) Location: shutdown -aNext
3) Name: Cancel ShutdownFinish

Unfortunately, it doesn't work too good. It works, but you have to try running it three or four times before it brings up a quit dialog and lets it run.

it would be better to put the shutdown command in a batch file, then change the icon on the batch file if you want.

. Why would that be any better? Looks like six of one, half a dozen of the other to me.

based on LasVegas's statement "Unfortunately, it doesn't work too good. It works, but you have to try running it three or four times before it brings up a quit dialog and lets it run." yes, it would work better since it would actually run the first time you double click the batch.

hmm. I found this after playing about with "shutdown in xx seconds" ;-) run>cmd.exe type shutdown and explore your way.
