What an awesome system!

I recognized many people in this song-from the ones who are running this one, to the ones who are running a 286...

From 1:05 to 1:45 reminds me of several people I know, and the rest of it totally applies to me!

Grrr...video embed dosen't work for me...

Nit: Note that "a T1 line for internet access" is no longer very good...

Having one into your HOUSE is though! I don't know anyone who has one coming into their house. I know many people who still use dialup! Who are you calling a nit, you nit?

As in "pick", not "wit" BTW T1's were around 1.5 Mb/s Roadrunner cable is 7Mb/s. Not that impressive any more. Correct me if I'm wrong there West.

You're right on all counts. T1 is around 1.5Mbit/s. Cable is about 3Mbit/s and upward toward 10M. DSL's whole point was to get T1-like speeds over much less restrictive wiring, so it's also in that 1.5M and up range. "Broadband" generally seems to be "T1 speed or faster."

T1 is one of those things that USED to be a fast connection, but has become mostly ... obsolete. (Reminds me of my old 128Kbps ISDN link, which was really zippy when I first got it, and then as years (not too many!) went by I watched by less technical friends and relatives got faster and cheaper newer connection technology... (and cisco's very first connection to the internet was a 19.2kbps "leased line"...)

The record for home internet connectivity belongs to This Swedish Granny 40Gbps!

Meh.. I always thought Weird Al was over-rated. I think I might have seen something of his that I found genuinely funny but the rest just seems.. contrived, somehow. I know some of the songs are "filk" and as I don't know the originals they will lose something in translation, but when I heard "Addicted To Love" I thought "Oh, that's what the Weird Al song was about. Still... meh."

Yes, but he has an amazing vocal range. And IMO, he is a brilliant parodist. But, people's music tastes differ. I would have thought all the techies on here would have liked that, though...

. I don't guess I've ever paid much attentiont to his vocals. I'm usually concentrating on the video and lyrics (and YouTube is not exactly hi-fi). I can agree that he is a VERY talented writer. Has he ever done anything "serious?"
.
. Speaking of under-appreciated vocalists we were? , Cyndi Lauper has some great pipes. Too bad most ppl only know her by her radio hits.

I love Cyndi Lauper, I had the HUGEST crush on her when I was a teen, and I still do. All Through the Night, her best song, IMO.

Wel, it's nice in and of itself, but he is an awesome chameleon. listen to "Another one bites the dust", then listen to "Another on rides the bus". Listen to "You're beautiful", then "You're pitiful".
He's very good at imitating other artists. He hasn't done much "serious" work, that I know of, but he has produced a ton of original humorous songs, other than parodies.

I've never heard of her...I'll have to check her out on youtube.

Woah.. OK, I'm more impressed with his range having heard those two (and appreciate them more for already knowing the originals).

. I suggest a live version of "Time After Time" as a starting point for your search.

I guess this is where the difference comes in- I accept he's good at writing filk (word of the day, kiddies) and his vocal range is impressive, but it's that british sense of humour thing- a lot of our humour is very skilful satire and parody so his stuff seems a little.. heavy-handed, I guess. The other end of the spectrum is surrealism, which Wierd Al isn't really either. Bill Bailey- there's my kind of comedy songs :)

. Filk. I learned a new word!
. As far as I can tell, ALL of his songs are filk.
.
. For me, Weird Al is a lot like artists such as Frank Zappa, Prodigy, &c - I can really enjoy listening to one or two songs at a time, but it's not something I usually want to hear that often.
. I have no idea which song the video is based on, but what Al did is funny. I just wouldn't want to see too many like it in a row.

It's based on some rap song I have never heard, "It's all about the benjamins".

. Your response has me baffled. It was funny enough trying to increase modem speed by rubbing something on it. I guess because I've never lived near a surfable body of water, using surfboard wax made it even funnier.

You didn't catch that? I'm down with Bill Gates, I call him MONEY for short/I phone him up at home and I make him do my tech support!

I'm saying, I'm down with Bill Gates(or "Money" for short) -I am the opposite of the modem-waxing commodore 64 user- and since I am such good friends with him (Bill Gates), I am going to have him crash your system (as you are probably using windows) for insinuating that I am so stupid as to wax my modem!

Rssssssp :P is me sticking out my tongue at you and making a childish noise.

It really isn't so funny when I have to explain it...:/

. Yeah. I can beam pretty dense at times. I guess I didn't catch that part of the video.
.
. Goodhart woulda got it! He would have worked up some pun for your remark and it would have made more sense to me. heehee
. Wish he'd hurry up and get back online.
