Well, a nice concise packet of questions and thoughts to prevent one from being led by the nose down any false path - or at least help keep one grounded in reality.

I tried that yesterday, but it worked today. Shermer is hard-core, and I like a lot of what he says, but science is fallible. Shermer says:"science is the best thing ever devised for understanding the world and we should love it"
But I'm more of a follower of Charles Fort

Anything associated with human beings and their decision must necessarily be fallible, it is the hope that all the checks and balances in place would keep out or at least, discover most errors in time. I remember reading about a forth state of water a few years ago, that went on for a long time before they discovered that the initial experiment was flawed because of contaminates. But it did get corrected eventually.

Of course, I am now speaking of the difference between methodology and the people that do not use the methods as they should. Your link is a good example of the very thing I mean.

Another example are the books entitled: Trust Us: We're Experts and the evidences for how some scientists and MANY marketers use selective evidences to support their positions, when they are not truly supportable :-)

I concur. I do think that people like Dawkins sometimes end up doing exactly the same things that they criticise others for. E.g. forming an opinion, then collecting evidence to back up what they've already decided is true. And picking easy holes in what other people say & think rather than starting from first principles and being objective. ? L

Oh yes ! A GOOD example of what you are speaking of, even to the point of his (Dawkins) using the same tactics he denounced is the book: The God Delusion.
He is out of line in that one for sure....it is an embarrassing book for him really.
