Not sure what this tool is, gift from grandpa. Looks like some kind if drill press but what is it called & how do you use it.

Yup, as others have stated, it's an arbor press. Not a tool you will use every day but allows you to push in/out a bearing with a little more precision than beating on it with a hammer.

It's an Arbor Press. A nice vintage one worth cleaning up.

I think it might be a punch press of somesort. A die may be placed under the ram and used to puch a hole in somethng. Maybe a device to set rivets in a predrilled hole.

It is a press.
Uses are only limited by the size and tool(s) you can attach.
Seems to be the gear driven type, so medium duty, like pressing bearings in and out, bending thin steel or press fittings.
